I just came across this video. It's perfect for a project I'm cutting on the cnc. I modeled an adjustable wrench (crescent wrench) and need to cut it in two halves to mill the sliding jaw barrel and thimble pivot pin grooves out. Once done I'll glue the parts back together. Thanks, Aaron. good video.
Much better alternative to Solid Tools, thank you. Most common need for splitting in half, is working on symmetrical items. The initial concept is often built whole, then split once more tedious work begins (later to be mirrored, saving a lot of time/errors).
After you slice the model and once you select it, while it is selected and before you use the move tool with the copy modifier, you can make it a group. Then moving it to another location is easier because it is not attached to the other half. And the other half would be real easy to select because it is all by itself - kinda like me...😟
Couldn't have been more timely. I was just about to email you and ask if you had anything on this topic because it is something I need to do right now. Thank you Aaron.
Nice one. Anyone teetering on the edge of shelling out for the Artisan extension set might be persuaded on the basis that it has a cutting tool called ‘knife’ I think. I call it sword because that’s what it looks like to me but I’m a rebel, Dotty, a loner…
REQUEST::::can you cut a pipe/tube at the seam and unwrap and lay flat? i would like to ultimatly print it out at a 1:1 scale to trace on an actual pipe.
Blender > big square that cuts the part > boolean > apply modifier > copy cut part > ctrl+z to before the boolean cut > move square to other side of model > Boolean > Apply modifier > ctrl+v > Profit?
What's the command on Windows? Ctrl / alt / ctrl+alt don't work with the Move tool selected, I've tried to slice it in the same place twice and it's not cutting properly and it's only letting me stretch the model.

Thanks a lot, Aaron. I'm learning SketchUp and now I've got a new skill :)

Brilliant! - that solved my issue...
Thanks Aaron, another new SketchUp skill.
Never thought of that method. Thanks.

Thanks Aaron, poor Grogu though, looks like he's been sliced with a lightsaber. 😆

Thanks Aaron! I now better undrestant the intersect with model command 🥳
A great tutorial it is...hmmmm 😏. Thanks Aaron. I've recently bought a couple 3D printers so this is going to come in handy. Cheers.
A plugin called "Zorro" works like a champ.
Thanks! That's what I was searching for! Good teacher!
I love how in the beginning of the video it looked like Aaron has Yoda ears. On purpose perhaps 🤔?
That would be very handy to remove a tiny-bit off the bottom of a cockeyed part for 3D printing. Thanks.

Very helpful, thank you!
