Excellent breakdown. I saw it years after it came out, but being a Star Trek geek and huge fan of HBO’s True Blood. So I checked it out LOVED it. Great cast and action
Senator Kelly's list of known mutants is a direct reference to senator Joseph McCarthy’s list of "known" communists in the 50s. It's almost a word for word quote of McCarthy introducing his list.

Am I the only one who noticed the continuity error when Professor X says he first met Magneto? He says they were both 17; yet in X-Men First Class and actually meet for the first time they're both 30.

I still have this on VHS from when I was gifted it as a child. One of the best super hero movies ever still. Complete classic.
Thank you for the movie breakdown! I was only 10 when I saw this movie the first time and had no knowledge of the comics, but it left a huge impression on me and siblings resulting in years of "mutants" being our favorite roleplay story genre. It left a grounded and emotional aesthetic thumbprint on so much of the mid 2000s YA fiction I we consumed, and later in life I grew to understand and appreciate the themes around fear and discrimination when that became personally relevant. No matter how burnt out we might on the hero genre nowadays, the X-Men movies have a special place in my heart.
X-Men is in my top three favorite movie series of all time. I know it’s a lil all over the place as a franchise but I really really love it (even The Last Stand…more than I care to admit publicly)

The first X-Men was an art, just like Nolan's Batman. Creation team made "child book" into a serious movie, with both protagonists and antagonists being questionable. You really can sometimes side with Magneto.

Solid start for this franchise and the film that kicked off The Start Of Modern Comic Book Films. Jackman's Wolverine is one of the best comic book castings ever. McKellen And Stewart crushed it as well and hope they come back for Deadpool 3.

This was a great movie to watch in a theater. The X-men were my introduction to comics in high school in the early 90s. Getting to see my heroes, in a not cheesy movie, was a huge win for my younger nerd self.

What is it with people and cyclops‘s optic blasts? They have been based in heat. They have been retconned to be concussive but as early as issue two of the X-Men comic, they have been heat based.

@@anodosarcade7355 my point was people often mention Logan’s bone claws being added after his incident with magneto. Most everyone talking about Scott never even bothered to mention it. It all depends on who’s writing it but it still annoys me that it’s just disregarded.

The train station scene was a disused train station-turned-banquet hall, Liuna Station, in Hamilton, Ontario. It's the same train station from 1996's The Last Kiss Goodnight.
There's a great outtake from the DVD which you can find here on TH-cam: in the Statue of Liberty shop, Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey rush towards the camera... followed by Spider-Man. He stops, says "I am so sorry, I'm in the wrong movie," and backs out as everyone cracks up.

18:58 I still have this comic! 1991-1997 when I was 6-12 were my key comic books days. My mom was a waitress back in the early 90’s, she’d give me her tips to buy comics and play at the Arcade while she worked. I bet I have some value on many of them yet I’d never sell.

Wow, I never noticed the Newton's cradle not having any strings. Seeing it now, I guess that's how Magneto practices his powers, by manipulating that at the same time he performs whatever other task he's working on.
In my head Canon, I like to think that Morph is on the set somewhere multiple times, he was always my favorite X-Men. He did have some quirks but all us weirdos do.

I was so mad when MGS V came out and Hayder wasn’t voicing Venom Snakes voice or Big Bosses Voice. But then I realized Venom Snake wasn’t a reliable narrator bc of the brain trauma. But Stan Lee is always miss quoted when it comes to professor X and magneto. They weren’t based off those historical figures in comics. Maybe in the movies but not comics.

Why didn't the actress who played Kitty in the first X-Man film not return to reprise her role in the third film? Because I have noticed that the Kitty we see in "X-Men: The Last Stand" is played by a completely different actress.
I never had the wherewithal to get into the comic books, but I was aware of what the X-MEN were before the animated series debuted, and I loved that series. And the movies impressed me all the more so. Anyway, great breakdown, even though none of it was lost on me the first time.
