I am a housewife and I haven't had the need to work for a few years now. But now my husband's job is not paying as much as it use to before and I want to start working to help us get out of debt. I honestly feel a bit nervous and didn't know where to start but your video has helped me a lot. Thank you very much and I will keep your advice in mind. 👍🏼😊
Love these job search strategies and techniques and it is SO true that mastering your job search can feel like a full-time job! The biggest frustration with job searching for me was always feeling like I was submitting my resume into a big black hole. Thanks for sharing these tips Heather!
That is the biggest frustration I hear all the time - applying and then never hearing back. As a Recruiter, I look at 500+ resumes a day, you have about 5 seconds to catch my attention or I move on to the next resume. Make sure you are marketing yourself properly based on how Recruiters search.
This was super helpful. As a person with ADHD, I struggle to identify exactly what tasks are included in the approach of any process. I knew networking was “important,” and I had a general idea of what that consisted of, but I couldn’t identify the order of events to the extent that I could actually use it strategically. My understanding was basically “meet the right people and say the right things at the right time……. Until they like you enough to offer you a job?” No. Now, I have a checklist! I know exactly what to do. Thank you!

Hi Heather. My biggest challenge with a Job search has been applying with the desire to work for a company that is reputable. Additionally, I want to associate with a known brand because it is associated with my self image and self branding endeavors. However, I never seem to know where to start because of concerns over qualifications or whether I will be able to handle some of the key roles and responsibilities because I have never encountered it before. Such is the nature of my challenges. If you could make a video on how to address these kinds of concerns, I am sure it would be of great help to me and anyone else who can resonate with such an experience.
I think job application is the most annoying thing, whenever I apply for any job I make sure whether or not I have the desired skill sets and then I apply to that particular job. But it's heartbreaking to not get any attention. That's what I think is the biggest challenge of searching a job. Mam if you have any advice in related to this please help me. It would be a great help for all the fresh job seekers like me. Thanks
5 Tips 1. Use the LinkedIn strategy look your existing connections or make new one 2.Get your career documents ready 3. Develop your 30 second pitch 4. Conduct informational interview from the people who already on your desire position 5. Followup for the position Thanks me later
Thank you for the video. If 80% of the jobs positions are given by referrals...what is the function of the hiring areas in the Human Resources departments? Wouldn't be easy to have "Public relations"?
Heather, such a wonderful video. You are THE QUEEN of LinkedIn! I love it! I like how you show people they need to personalize those initial interactions with someone at orgs they'd like to investigate and pursue. I love it when I receive LinkedIn invites that have a wee bit of personalization. It doesn't even need to be much. Also, I chuckled and absolutely loved your comment about people "liking talking about themselves." It's such a great way to engage people--getting them to share themselves. All around another great video again!
If you used to work at a fast food chain you may want to consider working out when now especially if you're in California because the minimum pay per hour is $20. If you can only work from home due to a physical disability or just due to responsibilities like having to take care of children maybe you can be a drive-thru order operator and people will probably hire you if you have the ability to speak for example Spanish or Cantonese
It really is who you know. I think that's how I got all my jobs... it was who I knew! So I see why linked in is so valuable. I love that you give examples of how to write the emails. So generous and helpful. PS... Remember you asked me about my elevator speech from your video... well, I wrote it under my comment on that video.. no editing, just what I wrote from your video at that time. If you want to see what happens when someone does it right away from what you say! It was fun! Great video Heather... as always! I learn so much from you. ~Elizabeth

I have been job hopping my entire work life. I have experience across different areas of work but never stayed in one area for very long. How do work through this?
You could always move to California, the price of living is pretty high but if you apply and get a job at a major chain fast food restaurant the minimum is $20 per hour (año 2024)
Thanks Herman! I love informational interviews. They are the fastest way to get connected with others that are doing what you want to do. Thanks for watching.
I found the best way is to walk door to door wearing my best suit, bowtie and penguin shoes handing out my resume. If i dont get a call back i'll call them back about 15 times a day or just keep sneaking back into the office building to ask the boss for the job over and over again.

Nice tips except for 5:45. If I was on the other end of this - having some professional connection regularly poking me at about birthdays or my family every few weeks - it would make me very uncomfortable and irritated. I would eventually stop responding and red flag them as someone to avoid communicating/referring others to lest they start pestering me or my connections again.
