Of all the zig fishing videos, this is the most informative. Very thorough, thanks!

Perfectly done video. As a stateside carp angler just getting into it, it is incredibly difficult finding information over here. I think zigs will be effective in the waters I fish, and have been very confused about them. You explained it well enough even a dumb yank like myself can feel confident in it. Thank you!

absolutely Brilliant, it's how I use them but so far have never caught on a zig. This gives me more confidence that I'm doing it right but need to persevere 👍🏻

Great video and I use adjustable zigs and love them. Just a little tip I f you have a deeper then you can see how far the fish are from the top or bottom and do the method that best suits where the fish are.

Never fished Zig before but after this I will definitely give it a go. Great explanation thank you.

Super video and explanation. I thought that zigs were far more complicated and have avoided using them, but thanks to this video I'm going to give them a whirl. Nice one!

As a complete beginner to carp fishing this video has given me a lot of confidence to try the zig rig method. If your magazine is as good as your video's i'm looking forward to getting one of my Xmas presents of a years subscription.

I’ve used a Korda and fox one, both are total mysteries re float doesn’t surface at all about 70% of the time so at least 3-4 casts required til it finally does, it’s not tangling because it always comes back tangle free. And good luck seeing your bait on the surface without bins. I have some cheap zoom glasses which turned out to be better than the cheap and nasty eBay expectation.
I’ve had a few fish out of probably 5 occasions I’ve used them this year, but you get easily as many trailers and foul hooks as u do proper hookings. They ARE a faff but maybe worth it on the right day. Also u never know which bait to use, dark fluffy flies have worked, so has black foam, but when nothings happening despite seeing them all cruising a foot under the surface it kinda makes the session doubly frustrating

Zigs are actually really good for fishing on the top. As opposed to the conventional style of surface fishing. Where its really busy, constantly casting out, reeling in and your bait/line drifting with the lakes flow. With an adjustable zig. Pick your spot to fish and your hook bait stays there because of the lead. I was bagging up the other week using this adjustable zig to fish off the top. Zig are a pain the arse with tangles and successful casts though. So I found a foot or just over of hook length to be the best. Any longer and casting becomes frustrating from my experience. As tangling is common. It's usually when you get your cast bang on as well. It bloody tangles 😂

Great vid! Only fished twice with zigs, really want to try a bit more this year. Do back leads mess up bite sensitivity? And sbd else asked about dropping the lead. I thought about that too, but as I see it using any kind of fixed lead would only turn it into a non-adjustable rig making the float redundant. As an alternative I'm thinking about using a Fishtone rig (German product) in combination - would allow me to keep it a free running rig, but still with the ability to dump the "lead" (which is a stone). GIYF if anyone is curious ;)

This may make some laugh. I was using zigs up on the Cotswolds water parks and I misplaced all my foam and only had big pop ups so they were a bit too in your face baits. Thank god my mate snores heavily from even 2-4 metres away in his bivvy so I always carry earplugs …
I sacrificed one of them (orange) and cut it down small and had a beautiful 30lb pristine linear. (Must have liked the wax) 😂
I think colour is irrelevant when it comes to zigs personally. It’s the silhouette they’re focused on more than any colours.

Good video and well explained, I'm hoping to try these this year.! Question though, can these rigs be used over slightly snaggy ground, and is there an option to drop the lead if needed?

Mate, that was my thought too but as I see it using any kind of fixed lead would only turn it into a non-adjustable rig making the float redundant? But I'm thinking about using a Fishtone rig (German product) in combination - would allow to keep it a free running rig, but still with the ability to dump the "lead" (which is a stone). GIYF if you're curious. I'm not advertising it, it's just something I'm also interested in trying out.

Do you think adjustable zigs give beter bite indication. The way i see it, the fish starts pulling on the zig and immediately puls the line straight through from your alarms, giving beter indication. Where as with lead clips, the fish move around with the hook in its mouth and have to actually move the lead to trigger the alarm. Giving it allot more play with lead clips than adjustable zigs.

I like zig fishing and these are great for pits that I fish but there’s no way of dumping the lead which is a shame.
I’m off to France again on Thursday and the lake we’re booked on has loads of sand bars, bowls and margins with depths of 16’ The trouble is, there’s so much Canadian weed and very big carp - a few up to 70 plus at the right time of year but it’s too much of a gamble and I know the bailiff isn’t keen on them.

    Just tried complete failure ,!
    Tangle after tangle
Tried adjustable which proved more buoyant than my lead ……… as I reeled float down to lead the lead just bounced it’s way back to me !!
The lake is just 3 ft deep all over so I’m assuming it’s just as easy to use a long hook length?

    • @carpologytv
      @carpologytv  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Andy, in that situation (3 foot depth) You'd probably be best using a long hook length :)

I always fish my bobbins tight to the top of the rod because most of the bites are drop backs and I use heavier bobbins for my zig fishing 🎣

I like the idea of these, but I find the line doesnt feed through the lead and raise the float.
