    For those questioning the mix up in wiring, here is the scoop as I was confused as well. One install video has the constant as yellow, and another video has the constant as Red. I spoke to Thinkware directly and here is what they said. Various versions of the camera will alternate between the colors and NOT to go by the color of the wire itself. Go by the actual label on the wire itself. The other issue... After installing so many stereos and alarm systems, the wiring on those types of equipment is a big tag you can actually see and read. These labels look like a heat shrink tube, black, with the smallest font writing on it. If you need glasses, you will miss it. So there is more clarity for all. This woman may have the right wiring for her unit. Check Yours.

    You. Are. PATIENT. It's so helpful to see the full process from start to finish so that we know what to expect. And it's helpful to see someone doing this who doesn't get all mad like I do, LOL! Two great lessons here. Thanks for the vid.

    1. Always make sure you place the camera where the wipers are reaching.
    2. When connecting any electronic equipment, first connect the Ground, next connect the constant power and after that anything else or you're taking a chance of damaging the device you're installing or the vehicle you're working on. Alternatively unplug the electronic device from the other end of the wire harness you're installing if it is detachable at all.
    I'm quite happy you stressed on the routing of the wire behind the airbag curtain, since it could be a hazard preventing the airbag of deploying properly. But no need to bother disconnecting the battery terminals of the car. On any car with curtain airbags the ignitor is located at the C-pillar, all the way in the rear of the car. It's sufficient to take the key off the ignition or place it outside of the car if Push to Start.

    This is one of a very few wiring installs that manage the cable routing and airbag correctly. Well done. Most others ignore the airbags and cross the wires over them. Crossing wires over them may give a deployment fail or it may cause the airbag to rip the camera off its mount and become a missile inside.

    When mounting the wires do I have to remove the A pillar plastic? Or could I put the wires in the weather stripping?

  • @EldenTriLee
    @EldenTriLee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On my 2017 I was able to tuck the wires in without removing the weather stripping or A pillar. At the bottom you can unscrew the trim and pull it out a bit and slide the module into the gap and cover it back up. For a rear camera it's easier to use the trunk cig lighter.

    I watched another video and they did one step that you skipped that they said was important. They checked for "Line" and "Load".
    Line would be your 12 volt, non fused side.
    Load would be the accessory, fused side.
    Without checking, you have a 50% chance of getting it right, getting it wrong may bypass the purpose of having a fuse.
    Other than that, great video.

    • @anoopster
      @anoopster 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I believe one of the taps bypasses the fuse and needs to be turned around.

    Thank you for this video. I plan on ordering a dash cam (quite possibly this model) and a Midland GMRS radio and installing to the fuse box as you have shown. • @brucemoose926

    Good video. Neglected to mention to tab power on the load side of fuse, not the powered side. This way the fuse will blow when the dash cam and whatever the fuse was for (horn, etc) exceeds the amp rating. If you don't, then your dash can won't be protected by fuse.

    Much cleaner than my install. Mine has a little wire on the A pillar and uses the cigarette lighter. Trim removal tools do help your fingers/nails quite a bit. Guess I'll disconnect the battery and retry doing front wiring.
    On a side note, many SUVs have a cigarette lighter on the back, so if you're not using a 2 channel system or want parking mode, you can use two separate cameras and it'll be relatively easy to wire each of them separately.

    Thanks to editing and a dry run (planning on access and removal of panels) installing will not take 14 minutes. Some cars a bit more complex , like double cab trucks. Give yourself sufficient time to route your wiring and double check all connections and attached interior panels.

    Could not get my F800 to work when the ignition was off based on these instructions. After I talked to the audio install folks at Best Buy, I found out that the red wire is for when the ignition is on and yellow is for constant power. In other words, opposite from this video. Maybe a difference between the F770 and the F800?? After I reversed the wiring, the F800 worked like a charm. I connected to the cigarette lighter (red) and the door locks (yellow).

    • @enalsk
      @enalsk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    QUESTION: Did you use low profile mini fuse taps? It is hard to tell in the video. If so, did they fit well over the other fuses, and are they snug, or have you had any trouble with them coming loose? I also have a Mazda CX-5 and I am thinking of hardwiring my dashcam. My CX-5 has low profile mini fuses installed.
    Also, this video is one of the most complete and concise installation videos I have found to date concerning dashcam hardwiring, and I have watched a lot of these. Great job!

  • @Mark-OutWest
    @Mark-OutWest ปีที่แล้ว

    Outstanding job! It however suffers from one pitfall that almost every video on dash cam installation has. While it's great that you checked the run/off state of specific fuses for the yellow and red wire, you didn't determine which side of the fuse (you have to pull it) has voltage on it, and which side goes to the device. One side will have 12 volts, the other nothing. The potential is there to connect the fuse tap backwards such that you receive power and are not protected by the fuse. I have a CX-5 and the way you put those taps in would not provide fuse protection to the camera. You also didn't address that the fuse closest to the prongs is for the factory circuit and must have the original fuse amperage in it. The higher fuse goes to your camera. Also when you are in the back seat it looks to me like there's an airbag in that headliner. I see the white with black tape every few inches going on. Don't run anything in front of that bag. Run behind it.

    Problem is the ACC wire that should be connected to a fuse that gets power only when the car is on.
    The instructions manual recommends using 'audio' but in the case of the Mazda 3 2019, that is always powered (even with car switched off)

      If the camera is in use while the ignition is off, it will drain the battery. This particular dashcam model (Thinkware F770) has built-in battery monitoring and will shut off the dashcam if the battery voltage drops too low. The cut-off voltage is set by the user in the camera's options.
      Dashcams that do not have built-in battery voltage cut-off can be used with an add-on accessory that does the same thing, such as the Blackvue Power Magic Pro.

    I'm confused about the red and yellow wire. I've seen other videos describing the opposite. Yellow needing constant power and red needing power when turned on
