I went ahead and fixed mine several years ago and it just failed again a couple of weeks ago. $600 and they replaced it with the same exact part number and revision of the old compressor. You saved money. Bought a Whirlpool and happy with it so far.

I had this same refrigerator and 2 years in compressor went out. Not under warranty. Had the repairman replace the compressor. Now it is out again. Consumer research only helps you if you buy something several years old so that there is information out there to know how it is performing. Unbelievable.

Glad you published this today. I have the same problem and the the house who came today said the compressor is going to cost more than $800 with a one year warranty as well. Are you kidding me? Not longer supporting Sears. I saw many complaints at consumer affairs website and also there are petitions for a class lawsuits. -(hopefully on the class lawsuits it is people who get the funds to cover for another refrigerator and lost of food and the award do not go only for the attorneys). Sears is acting very badly. They know they have the problem and on top when one calls to schedule the diagnosis appointment they do not just say we are having many problems with those models and is going to cost x amount of money. Instead they charge additional for the diagnosis. I paid $94 and change. There is not extended warranty on these appliances purposely. Let’s see what is going to happen and who is going to win this one!

Same problem here tech told me is half compressor bad and the mother board have to be replaced about 1300 to fix hell no way I’m gonna pay that I’m going back to old fridges more durable and cheap fix, that’s how they make money compressors business

I have the same model like yours and compressor stop working today. This garbage last 3- 1/2 years only. This is Kenmore with LG parts inside which is absolutely piece of junk. Sears service policy is flat out scam. I have an 11 years old GE second fridge and still running. Good luck man for your replacement.

You can order the compressor from Sears Parts and the drier. It comes as a kit, however its a 2 hour job. I watched the tech replace mine yesterday. I have the sears master protection agreement and paid zero for it. However the job isn't easy you need to knwo what you are doing and you need to use nitrogen to clean out the lines because the when the pos compressor goes it can clog stuff up in the lines an it need to be flushed. Plus you have to charge the system with 134a so it cools, plus he used a torch to seal the lines so this was beyond my capability. Now 17 hours later my fridge cant get below 50 degrees with the new compressor so something else is wrong which is likely the thermostat or evaporator fan etc Been 37 days without a fridge. Don't buy a refrigerator with a linear compressor as the technician told me they are junk. They are period end of story, if you won't have a master protection agreement you are looking at 600-900 to replace this as the part alone is around $350 then tack on two hours of labor at least.

Chalk up another victim of this dastardly refrigerator. Was going to be charged 1100.00 for the compressor. Kenmore used to be the go-to brand for appliances, hands down.
My Elite lasted exactly 3 years to the month. My last GE was 27 years old. I stupidly splurged for the "counter-depth" one, so paid more for less cubic feet.
    They had a sucker.
Any info on the California lawsuit will be appreciated.

I have the same refrigerator and am having the same problem. I was told that it would cost anywhere from $700-$1200 for a new compressor and maybe a computer update. My fridge is only 6 years old.

Thanks for sharing. I looks like very nice fridge. My Kenmore went out a few days ago. I had it for almost 9 yrs plus the time it had with the previous owner. I think it was in service for more than 10 yrs. I was hoping you are telling me how to fix it...

I just had the same problem with my 2016 Kenmore Elite frig. I didn't know that LG is now making everything for Kenmore. The Good Old Kemores Are No More And LG sucks. it's costing me $732.00 to fix the frig, and thats with the free replacement compressor. I hate it but its less than 3 grand for a new one again. The next time it will go in the trash Samsung And LG are expensive throw aways that is your lucky you'll get 10 years at best out of them. It's a shame that everything is made like shit nowadays...

This is exactly what I have been told about my exact problem with this exact Elite refrigerator. I actually cancelled the appointment after explaining the problem (I did some initial diagnosis) with the technician as he quoted $600 for compressor. I agree no more Elite or Kenmore going forward. Yet to see how I am going to handle this.

for other victims - same, about 4 years, guessing its the compressor as it doesn't make compressor noises any more.
seen the lawsuit in california concerning the compressor. also heard for my model (74013, no ice dispenser) "the motherboard has a bug and there are no replacements". don't know if that's true tho. first thing i tried.. order a new thermostat. sears parts diewrecked happily sent me a new one for $30.. then i found someone else online with same shituation - thermostat they sent has no connector, and no plastic case, first is trivial, second is a bit more crap to deal with. so if you order a thermostat, make sure they understand, you want one with a fucking connector and a case.
you will also note, mine used to leak all over the wooden floor every summer. unable to find any instructions for initialising the heater/defrost so you have to rip your fridge apart and do that manually. you will have to take everything out of the fridge to do that, convenient.
you will also note, this fridge makes more weird noises than a room full of synthesizers. it probably programs you with subliminal voices and has demons in it. probably they have satanic fornication on top of the fridge before they sell it to you.
the compressor *may* be available for under $200 on ebay (initial search, not sure if part is exact) or around $300 with other sellers. doesn't concern me, i can't afford it anyway, just go without. thanks modern society.
and be careful, i read one person who was charged almost $400 for sears to just to de-ice it. wish i had the secret key press for that.

      atomictraveller same situation.
2015 same model/ sears home warranty replaced compressor after it went bad in mid 2018. Now less than two years later compressor is gone again. Bad product, poor quality, poor workmanship by LG/Kenmore

I disagree sears has a great warranty, my fridge went bad & they longer made a part for it so sears gave me a 2200.00 store credit towards a new fridge this was almost 10 yrs ago & now that fridge is not working the prices I've been quoted to fix it have been insane so I bought a new one

    • @Treewang-69
      @Treewang-69  ปีที่แล้ว +1

my compressor went bad within 2 or 4 years, I have to re-watch my video lol .point is it had a 10yr warranty on compressor but the only way you could get the compressor is if sears serviced the fridge at a cost of $800 +

  • @norcaloutdoor5462

Do not buy Kenmore or Sear refrigerator or any other products They bought cheap Refrigerator from LG or other and put their name on it. Mine had the same model and the same problem as you. I just pay 700 dollar today to replace the Compressor and condenser and the problem never fix. Sear technician not able to find the issue. I lost 700 for nothing. I promise myself never buy anything from Sear again.

    We have the same crap.
Its 7 years old. We replaced the freezer fans two years ago.for 300
It started leaking under the drawer a year ago and they wanted 450-500 to fix it.
No the motor has no gas and its not cooling and they want 600 to replace it.
In my opinion Kenmore and LG are one of the worst fridges in market.
Not the fridge is sitting on porch collecting dust.

Yes, mine is 7 years old this month and just died. Nothing is cold. Lost over 400 bucks of food. I called to get it repaired and it will take 16 days for them just to come and $119 service charge and it could be 3 more weeks to fix it if he doesn't have the parts... I'm in on the law suit if anyone starts one up. Rick

Don't ever buy appliances from LG!!! A friend of mine has the same shown here. 6 years old. Lots of compressor problems since week 3 of owning it!!! Now he's looking to throw it out now that Sears is out of business, that no one likes to work on an LG, and that the warranty is probably up by now. Now there is a class action lawsuit against this!!!
