    Appreciate the way you matter of fact way you say could paint plain or do it with blending. Like the idea of dual colors on a brush and reasoning out why you use one gold over another. Just a lot of details that are useful to me. And not obtrusive music. Thank you for being here. See you next time. Thanks

    This turned out beautifully! I used the liquid sandpaper for years. I saved several of empty bottles and now I mix a gallon of TSP at a time and pour it into the empty bottles. It's a lot cheaper to use and works well.

    I have to say something I just finished painting a timepiece and I primed it was Bullseye 123 and then put paint over it and it bled like crazy I was told to always use a bin zinsser guaranteed at works so I redid my piece over with Ben and it looks awesome just a heads up a lot of work at the end when it starts bleeding through to start all over again and send things down love your peace thank you so much for sharing looking forward to next DIY

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah yes, good ol’ bleed through. This particular primer isn’t the best for bleed through if the wood is a “super bleeder” like mahogany or something like that because it’s a water based primer. I don’t use oil based primer because my toddler is around a lot and water based products are a bit safer in general and less stinky. I do, however, keep a can of shellac for those pieces when needed. Thanks for sharing your story! I love hearing what others do to solve problems with their pieces.

    Beautiful makeover! Can you show how you load the brush when there's 2 colors on it and show the blending? Also, do you sign your pieces? If you don't, you should...

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Polly! I don’t load two colors on the brush, I load the top (or bottom) part of the brush with one color and when I work it down (or up), it naturally picks up the other color. I don’t sign my pieces- I have been playing around with the idea of decoupaging my logo on them, though!

  • @sarahhornby138

    Holy moly I’ve just clicked the link on your favourite foam brushes. Took me to the American Amazon and it was a very reasonable $5.49. I then copy and pasted the full name of it and went onto UK Amazon and yep there it was first on the list and OH MY GOD!!!!! For the EXACT same 3inch foam brush with 4 refills it’s a whopping £32.83 + £3.99 for postage. So I went to Google to work out how much that is in USD. I just rounded the price to the nearest pound so £37 which is drumroll please……$51.31 😳😲🤯 almost fell off my chair.

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh geez 😳 Yeah, they are very reasonable here. And they are my favorite, however, not worth $50 😂. Wooster has a great 3in foam brush. If you needed one, perhaps that one would come up more appropriately priced as it’s a larger company? I’m sorry I’m not more familiar with UK brands.

    • @sarahhornby138
      @sarahhornby138 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elegantupgrades Finally after quite a bit of searching I did manage to find this brush. It’s a lot better priced than the other one but still expensive for just a sponge brush. It’s normally £15 (around $20.70) but it’s currently on offer for £12 ($16.56) I’m so jealous of the supplies you guys can get and just how cheap it is. The only things that are the same price is the likes of Dixie Belle paint or Annie Sloan chalk paint. You guys have a sanding machine and I almost everyone I watch has one. It’s called the sand prep. That is soooo expensive here. I know it’s still quite a big buy/investment where you are. But compared to our prices you’re winning girl lol

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think shipping is just absurd from here to there. Have you heard of Carts And Millie? I believe they are coming out with a similar sander soon. It would still be a big ticket item, but perhaps with a lower shipping rate.

  • @sarahhornby138
    @sarahhornby138 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi and Thank you for a wonderful video. Turned out so beautiful. I’m wondering if you are able to give me some advice please? Sorry I know you’re probably so busy. Or even if any of the lovely people in the comments could help me with my problem. So I’m doing something quite similar to yours. Just not blending my piece. I’ve bought a 2 drawer vintage drawers from market place it’s a very dark colour (mahogany maybe) anyway my plan is just very plain & simple as it’s going on my bedroom where it’s a lovely peaceful calm area. I’m in the UK and I’ve finally got my hands on some dixie Belle products. I’ve purchased the White lightning to give it a good clean. Then some boss as I fear it’s going to be a bleeder & I’ve chosen the colour cotton and I’m just basically painting the entire piece in cotton (prob 3 coats) see how I go. I’ve then purchased a beautiful decoupage tissue paper from redesign with prima. The one I’ve bought is called Olivia' Decoupage Tissue Paper and it comes in two sheets. So obviously I’m putting the paper over the painted white drawers and on the drawers it has some gorgeous vintage teardrop pull handles. I will first clean them up and then decide if I’m keeping them as is or maybe use a colour from rub n buff, or even go down the spray paint route. And then lastly I will seal my piece & I also purchased some big Mama’s butta wax which I’m going to do inside both drawers and the inside of the side drawers and on all the wooden runners inside as the drawers are sticking when opening and closing. Gosh I haven’t even got to my problem/dilemma yet. I got so carried away telling you all my new goodies that I bought from DB & redesign with prima and also telling you all my plans for the piece. So here is the problem (Finally!!) when I’ve put both sheets of the decoupage paper on top of the drawers just to get a feel of what it will look like and the drawers are bigger (longer) than the paper. The drawer front is measuring 84 1/2 cm and the paper is measuring 75cm (width) now one sheet will cover both drawers height wise so I will have an extra sheets left over. I’ve tried very hard looking at the paper to see if it has a pattern where it stops at 75cm and then I get the new piece and try to just carry the pattern on. But as far as I can tell I don’t think it does have an continuous pattern. And what I’m stuck on is when I cut a piece to cover the almost 10cm should I overlap the two papers a tiny bit? Or should I just join them right next to each other? I don’t want to be able to see an obvious join in the decoupage paper. Oh god I hope someone understands what I’m rambling on about lol and I also hope someone can give me some advice. I so wish I could attach pictures to TH-cam as it would have been far easier and quicker for me to take a pic of the drawer fronts, then another with the paper on it (just loose) and then all you experts out there could say well yes actually Sarah it does have a pattern and you will have to find it on your other sheet and do a good match up/join job. PLEASE someone help or someone needs to take my phone away from me because I just keep rambling the same things over and over. SO SORRY GUYS ❤️❤️

      Ok Sarah, I looked up the Olive deco paper from Prima and from the looks of it, it does have a repeating pattern. I think you may just have to play around with it until you find a placement that works. As far as a seam, if you overlap- it’s a bit easier but also a bit more noticeable. If you go edge to edge it’s a cleaner look, but you run the risk of gapping if you don’t get it just right. I know this is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but it’s how I work with my pieces. I do both methods depending on the situation. And you’re right, it would be much easier with photos to have that visual. I hope this was at least moderately helpful and you get a beautiful finished result.

      @@elegantupgrades Hi hun, Thank you so much for taking the time out to give me a reply. Yes your answer has helped me as I was completely clueless the other day. I think I’m just going to take my time with it and make sure I get it right and fingers crossed it turns out good. Thankfully it’s a piece that’s just for me and my bedroom, so if it should go horribly wrong only I will ever see it haha. Thanks again 😊

    Wondering if you can provide links on the products you're using like primer and roller naps etc ...thank you

      Of course. The primer is already linked, but I’ll see if I can find a link to the exact rollers I used and throw that one in there as well. (They high density foam rollers if you happen upon them elsewhere)

    Is the liquid sandpaper just as good as using sand paper to scuff sand? I HATE sanding and thought I’d try it.

      Ok, yes AND no. If it was a super high gloss finish, I would still scuff sand. But for every other finish, I find this to be more than enough- especially since I use it with the scrubby scotch brite pad.

    Is there a certain kind of tissue paper that you used? I want to try this on my boring ugly laminate dressers. Thanks

      Just regular old gift wrap tissue paper! Just make sure the one you choose doesn’t bleed ink. You can totally use it if it does, but it’s best to be prepared if it happens.

      Haha, I actually love working on the floor. There are times I’ll bring something up higher, but I’m actually pretty comfortable there.
