This so helpful that it made my decision to have the garage do it while it’s in for the oil change. I had initially declined thinking it’s a job i would do myself but seeing how much of a pain it could be and the location I’m going to have to pay for it to be done. Thanks again for the very helpful video to help me make an informed decision.

This video was incredibly helpful with changing the cabin air filter. It is not an easy job! I found needle nose pliers to be really helpful when pulling the filters out of the compartment.

Yeah I had to use pliers too, I felt I squashed them a little bit once I had them in but it’s impossible to make sure that it’s aligned deep in there

I agree it was the WORST cabin air filter I have EVER changed. I feel like it took and hour and I felt like I tore a meniscus and slipped a disc after. I surely do not feel like it was a proud accomplishment. I hate working on BMWs. Why does everything have to be so darn hard on them?

Dude the filter little door or cover whatever you want to call it can be remove but pulling up and down and it comes off 😒 so you can put the filter straight without smashing the fuck out of the filter and that way there is no need to remove the air duct 😒😒😒😒

That's why they use a two part filter. Same total surface area but easier to install.

@@BWTECH0521 That's BMW for ya. It'll be the last BMW I buy. A joy to drive, but a PAIN to maintain. It's a time and money black hole. I have never removed so many parts for what should be simple changes such as battery or air filter.
No wonder my dealer was asking $240 for this job. Looks to be a PIA ….I may just pay it.

I replaced mine today, it's so difficult, this video helps a lot. But there is a problem, I removed the air duct to get more space, but failed to put it back, any advice?😂
Hi Leoric, it took me 5 tries to put the air duct back in. Stretch your back and just keep trying, it'll go in, good luck!

Is there a way you can reset the notification that you need to change the cabin filter?
My car garage keeps emailing me asking me that the filter needs changed
No reset notification for air filter as far as I know.

Are you sure that’s the correct size? From a different video they use two filters one on top of the other.
I also have 2 filters on top of the other. I just didn't film it because my arms were tired from wrestling with them lol

Does BMW purposely make changing a cabin air filter complicated and difficult so owners will have to pay a BMW dealer? You would think they would make the air filter a simple chore say in the glove compartment or somewhere you can easily access.
In the glove box? That would have been too easy! Hahaha😄
This makes me think when the cabin air filter was outside the car - I have an E46 - and it still did the job?!!! To move it in such a crammed place and make it hard to replace is their way of making small money - just like with the rear brakes, with the electric handbrake (parking brake). Thankfully there is a workaround for everything!

After I unscrewed the panel with the speaker and cig jack? There are 3 electrical connectors you need to remove, then you can fully get the panel out of the way.

Oh the air duct, you need to first put the larger end into place. It's easier if you lay on your back. It was very difficult, but possible. Once you have the larger part in place, then you can screw it back in.

Just another outlet for convenience I guess. I haven't tried plugging anything in it, but I thought it was cool that they put it there

What a classic example of German engineering being OVER the top...it's as if they did this on purpose so you won't change it yourself and you can then have the honor of paying BMW hundreds of bucks to do it for you!

Of course, it was my first time. Nothing is easy the first time, it's more important that we try instead of being negative and doubting ourselves.
Ugh, used cabin filter always sticks with fungus, dirt stuffs. 🥲 My Camaro was also in like yours. But, after a few week, new filter became same shit. 😂
