The issue with England for the last 5 years has been prop level, Borthwick needs to look at our Bench, as we have such poor depth on it, it's been our issue for the last 5 years...all the best for the rest of the Autumn Nations! One headline that came to mind at the Full time whistle - "England surrender to 14 man N\ew Zealand as Ford misses Two Sitters"...
I know that that will never be used, despite its basis in facts....
That being said, on 60 minutes, England were 8 points clear and looked on their way to victory with NZ's lineout and scrum issues. Then Borthwick made Two substitutions that changed the match. On 59 minutes he replaced potential Player of the Match Tom Curry with his brother Ben. (Imagine if, instead of replacing Tom Curry , he replaced Ben Earl?). Then on 62 minutes, despite Marcus Smith's flawless game to that point, Borthwick gave Smith the "Shepherd's Hook" and replaced him with the Steve Borthwick fanboy, George Ford. In the next 18 minutes, Ford not only missed the tackle that allowed NZ retake the lead, he then went and missed TWO kicks at Goal. England's next match is not for a week and it is against the struggling Wallabies. The likelihood is that Borthwick will make many changes for that match, so why not allow Marcus Smith finish out this match?
I'm not saying that replacing Smith with Ford definitely lost that match, but I do think that Smith deserved at least another ten minutes. In the previous 22 minutes England had outscored NZ by 10 points to Nil. Once Smith and Tom Curry went off, England didn't score another point.
    Borthwick's substitutions deserve a conversation...

The All Blacks were dangerous on attack, and to come out winning after being 8 points down and being under so much pressure was great. I also feel like DMac is getting better at kicking over goalposts. The sideline kick wasn't easy.

    Just watched the reply.
Those "tackle without the ball" and not "player running obstruction in front of the carrier" calls...
First 2 the carrier was behind the guy who was "tackled without the ball".
England didn't look like scoring, their only attack was an intercept and a poor decision (not pressure).
ABs kept them in it, but half the penalties should of/could have gone the other way and it would have been a landslide.
Some great new attacking patterns from the ABs, many of them a bit clunky still, but they're there. Its exciting to see. Keep polishing Razor!

England fan here. Didn’t expect to win so I’m not too disappointed, especially given how we played, but given that it went down to the final play, it was pretty gutting. I think the difference was from the replacements. McKenzie came on, slotted a couple of kicks and helped maintain NZ’s momentum. Whereas there was no way that Smith should have been taken off, especially when a clearly unfit Ford was his replacement. It’s easy to say, but if Smith had stayed on for the whole 80, I genuinely believe we win. But that’s how it goes sometimes, and there’s lots of positives to take forward, as well as some learning points for both sides. Good game 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🤝🇳🇿

I think Ford got dumped on a bit unfairly for that drop kick. Isn't a better question to ask why were England with a shaky scrum and attack going backwards as a result, relying on a drop goal to win that match? Ford could not get into a good position for that kick and I dont think that was his fault.Marcus Smith is a great player but yet he's either failing to create opportunities for his backs to get to the try line or the players around him lack the skill set to execute those plays. Not sure which

England’s discipline was excellent until the last 10 minutes when they were getting desperate to keep a surging All Black attack out. It just seemed All Blacks left quite a few opportunities on the field and England didn’t really threaten the line. Smith’s try was opportunistic and he made a slick pass to 15 and then the wing. I thought England kicked possession away too easily and the drop goals in the first half were wasteful.

Difference was that NZ actually trusted their bench, and trusted them early on too, whereas it felt like England used their bench later and used it to park the bus rather than gain/maintain the ascendancy. NZ definitely learnt their lesson from the SA games as they made a similar strategic error with their bench in those games too.
Bench players need a bit of time to get up to speed in the game so it’s better to bring them on earlier so that they are up and running with 15-20 to go.

Trust Smith and the creative players we have, that can attack if allowed to do so.
