      Yea , everyone was laughing including me but most of what said was true all over , back n the day.
      I can remember being afraid of taking a pocket knife to school.
      If anyone was caught or told upon they went to the principal. Our principal had a solid oak desk. No idea the weight but when he told you to bend over and take hold to the top edge, then took his custom made paddle and smacked your bottom end must would pick up that side and inch or so from the floor. I heard another student say he melted the comb in his back pocket. 5 were the norm and 5 were enough. That is untill you got home and had to show and get signed the note to your parents and return the next day.
      Another round or a second choice that wasn t as painful but more timely. No, seldom was a knife found on a student. Back then it was traditional to settle any issue with knuckles then see which one could lift that desk higher than the other.

      In my late 20's and early 30's, I ate bacon, eggs and toast or oatmeal and eggs for breakfast. Then I went to work in a grey iron foundry, starting as a laborer and leaving as a coremaker apprentice. After 7 years of grueling, dangerous work, I was lean and muscular. After that I sold life insurance, worked for Orkin, then in a machine job, and finally spent the next 34 years working as a nurse. I did not get fat until I was in my final career, ballooning up from 170 lbs to a whopping 230 lbs. My wife was cooking what the doctors and health promoters advised, using non butter and other processed foods. Now, 9 years after retirement at age 70, I weigh a consistent 188 - 192. I took over the kitchen a year ago, and we are back to eating REAL food, not processed food! I buy 3 lbs of butter at a time! I still eat bacon and eggs for breakfast!

    My granny got up at 4am and churned butter. At breakfast there was fried eggs, Sunnyside up eggs, grits and pancakes with pure cane syrup. For meat she had bacon, sausage pork chops and fried chicken with toast.
    After dinner that night when everyone was through eating, she would take a spoon and eat whatever was left of the butter by the spoonful.
    Then sit on the front porch playing the singing and telling jokes well up into the night.
    She'd get up the next morning and start all over again.
    Incidentally, she did die of diabetes, but she ate and enjoyed herself while she was here.

    Man, I am 65. If I talked to my Pop the way some of these kids do, I wouldn't be here....lol. Pop would tell you to do something and if you didn't get up right away then there was one warning. Didn't I tell you to clean your room??? I never stuck around for the warning but once. Because there was no other warning. Now, let me get this straight. Pop whupped us. He didn't beat us. There was no slap in the face, he never left no bruises, no closed fist. It was a spanking just hard enough for you to know you got spanked. On Sundays Pop always made breakfast for us. Fried eggs, bacon, toast. Pop liked Grape nuts as far as cereal went and to this day I still eat that. As I got older, more and more of Pop shown through me. Just as my son is a spitting image of me, I am with Pop. Especially through my mannerisms. I really miss the days before computers (I know, I am on my phone, lol), and political correctness. Gregory does a bit on having a front porch. I agree totally. I spent a lot of time on the front porch with my family. Great great times.

    Yeah, it's very difficult to even find what they call "whitey tighties" anymore! Or briefs. They have boxer briefs. And I've always worn briefs cuz they hold up my junk. That is what I'm use to & it's hard to even find them anymore.
    But he is right! It's like today's men are afraid to be men! I don't eat veggies! Parents use to TRY to make me eat veggies. I couldn't do it. I'd sit at the table for hours & still not eat the damn things. I AM CARNIVOROUS!!! Vegetables, in my opinion is what FOOD eats!

    I enjoyed this. I never saw my dad in his underwear but I did know his belt personally. Something is broken. Who's at fault? Most times I didn't know why. Something is missing. I didn't know why but I knew there were consequences. 5 children lined up and to this day, I don't know who did what, but I do know our backsides got busted. If we wanted breakfast, we ate oatmeal, rice, or cold cereal. If you wanted lunch, better make a sandwich to take with you. There was no not doing your homework. We all knew what the belt was for. We learned the rules early in life.

      Sadly, a self sufficient childhood is lost these days. Most people can’t manage to prep for the next day or get little Connor and Gauge up, much less have the kids eat cereal. They run them through fast food. “Modern” family cars/vans smell like feet because of those entitlements. I miss those days when fathers were in the home and mothers were stern too. It was a better world and made better people. All they understand now is their pergola backyard financing and McMansion mortgages. Kids fall somewhere into the fray. SMH.

      Back in the 60's I knew my father's belt too, mostly for being disrespectful to him , my mother or any other adult. And he wore one of those thin belts, not one of these 2 inch wide belts.

      @susanwarren6547 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I remember those “line up…” days well. There were four of us kids and you better not run around in circles to keep the belt from making contact with your hind end.

    • @derrickbailey5167

      That line up was hilarious at my house, my sisters were Diana Ross and the Supremes, singing out all the recent transgressions to absolve themselves. Me and my brother were like Perry Mason and Matlock, trying to explain the obvious hypocrisy of my scheming, blackmail artist sisters. Back then they used belts, slapping them in their palms like the Gestapo, alright what happened???People say I lived in an abusive home, I say my parents were angels sent to teach me how to live. 😉😉😉🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😂😂😂👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
