    just got a 06 93 combi with the big turbo, following your videos on them I got the price down, had a chain change, full service, front and rear suspension fix thrown into the deal. AND noticed a tweak in one of the door locks. No oil leaks on it. Already have two 01 95's and they are in need of love. Not to bad cars for DIY tbh, and I'm no mechanic. So THANK YOU Amesie!

    Nothing you can't fix, from the looks of it. Great to see the old girl getting some love again.

    I had a friend who was a Saab nut. He had a 95, 96, 93 (wagon), 99. Several two cycle motors 3 cylinder. I helped him do lots of jobs like replace motor using only our backs to lift and replace motors. Plenty of memories driving around in snow and everywhere else. Great fun and I enjoy your videos. I’m old enough to remember when the “All New and Revolutionary 99” was introduced to the USA market. Lol

    Needing work or not. It was good to see that 96 running driving and stopping like a normal car. She's come a long way.

    A word on SAAB fuse blocks: Get some tiny brass screws with lock washers and nuts. Reason is you'll want to drill out the rivets that hold the bus bars together, shine them up real good and fit them back using the brass screws. I have fixed plenty of troubled SAABS including the Model 99 that was plagued with the same problem. A little corrosion and a lot of electrical load induced thermal expansion will turn the layered connections into crap. Check it out, you'll see what I mean
    Oh my sister had a Sonett lll ,orange too

    I have to say I was wrong, It's not as bad as I thought.Ya sure, there is a lot of work to do, but nothing you can't handle. This is going to be fun watching the progress. Plus, this gives me a reason to sit on TH-cam and get drunk and avoid working on my toilets. It's always much more fun watching other people work on their stuff then working on your own crap. And that also explains why ya always see three guys with shovels watching one guy dig the hole. So dig that hole Amesie! We'll be here watching! :D

    Trunk floor looks like a good place for a pick-up bed repair panel. Sounds like the Sonett needs a rewire.

      Be sure the Sonett ground strap has clean attachments at both ends. And paint the under side of your hatch cover with flat white. It's the original color, directs more light at the engine, and just looks awesome.

    Looks a bit like the 1966 Morris 1100 at my work...Rust held together by holes and collapsed Hydrolastic bags and the list goes on...All repairable I guess...but why.?..Guy said he wants to make a rat rod Morris.

    Amesie, did you ever hear of a rust repairing paint called "Rust Bullet", this stuff is amazing, bonds to and converts rusty metal to a nice black rust free finish. It may come in handy saving some rusty but solid areas / parts on the 96..

    there are lots of different ways to approach these rotted out panels. I know MercedesDieselGuy who's on TH-cam took a couple of different approaches that worked quite well on his recent restoration project, which was a 1983 Mercedes 240D with a 4 speed manual. You may wanna ask him about that.

    I'm loving this SAAB story; I can't wait to see what you do with this car! One thing that scares me, and is one of the reasons I'm leery of acquiring rare cars... the availability of even the most mundane service parts. I fear there would be a time when I needed a set of brake pads to pass inspection... and none would be available. It seems like you were "lucky" enough to find a guy who just happened to have exactly what you needed, but are you afraid you will hit a brick wall and be forced to cast and machine your own replacement parts?

    A lot of the times it's the undercoating that traps the moisture in and it seems that's what happened here, but sitting up in the elements that's the name of the game :/ you should make it buy a cheap metal-break to make up some of those patches

    • @AmesiesCorner
      @AmesiesCorner  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a hammer and dollies to make my panels, old school panel beater.

    • @janvanv

      Its a lot quicker job and TONs better to hack out the entire box sills and weld in all new.. Its 2 piece, REAL simple with a long enough brake..What I did when I had to do some similar to that rot is had a place bend them up following the original box shape but extending the horizontal bits where the floor is sandwiched. The idea was when we plasma cut right down the original seam and on the ends, that the new pieces would extend a bit more towards centerline out onto fresher metal than the compromised stuff at the sill/floor junction.. I used some roughly .088" or 13 g steel called "Lo-corro" which welds fine. Did corner floor pieces and new sills in about 14-15 hours to prime..Better and stronger than original..and with carpets can't tell a thing..

    • @saab900ken
      @saab900ken 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      floor pans need to be corrugated , Flat panel has no real strength. The front arch area needs two layers where the bottom sill ties in. Just rebuilt my entire Saab 95 floor, not to bad once you get into it.

    hi ^^ greetings from germany, i really like your channel, my question would be if you plan to do any special paint work on the Saab 96 ? before i watched your videos i never looked into Saab as an option, but now i am hooked. I like the "Orange" on your Sonett it looks a lot like the paint on a Mercedes C111 it just pops, i really like it.

    Wait... the Sonett was being a Brat? A Saab acting like a Subaru, imagine that! XD I dunno bud, I remember what the Sonett looked like and the stuff you had to do to get her structurally sound... Including what a bi&%h that shock tower was as well as repairing around the drivers door and the hinge there! The 96 seems fairly straightforward by comparison!

    • @janvanv
      @janvanv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Saab floors and sills are significantly thinker than 16g...16g is only .0625" The old 96s are at least .088 which is around 13g I think (I worked on V4 powered Saabs from 1980 to 2000 and full-time..MORE than full time really from 1984 to 1999. )

      armadillo platypus
      I never have done it but i know someone who has. They used piece of metal from an old industrial stainless steel fridge, Its joined to the original solid metal on the car. I am looking for an old fridge so I can get some cheap stainless for the inner wheel wells for one of the junk old cars
      . Its all going to be gooped up anyway, who cares if its "Not magnetic" It surely won't rust again! Stainless exhaust parts were welded to steel exhaust parts in the past and it holds up fine.

    Ah, plastic bodied vehicles and electrical problems, anybody who owns a TVR will know your pain, although TVRs tend to be worse as a lot of the older ones have electrics by Lucas (a.k.a. the prince of darkness) rather than the (generally pretty reliable) Bosch parts that were often used in older SAABs...

    • @74saabsonett97
      @74saabsonett97 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas wielded their dark powers plenty on the Sonetts. I live in Seattle and can't drive mine if rain looks like a possibility at all --- thanks Lucas wiper motors...
      At least Lucas largely stayed away from the ignition system... Bosch reigns supreme there.

    • @gosportjamie
