Never heard of these shrubs. Thank you for introducing me to them. I'll add it to my long list of things to add to my new garden.

The coastal places often struggle to find anything that can survive the wind. Once the hebe grows big enough and is not planted all alone it can contend with the coastal winds that tend to ruin the season or even kill most plant varieties. My balcony is hedged around with hebes because otherwise nothing else will grow where I live :D

Great thinking Zoltan and once you have the shelter maybe you can grow other things mire easily?

I have seen the wild types growing on the slopes of Mt Cook so they must tolerate a fair amount of cold.

Really happy to see the layered bulb pot! I'm a bit surprised to see how many flowers were in bloom at one time!

I love hebes! So many varieties. They originate from here in New Zealand and we see them everywhere. Some varieties are also medicinal. You can get varieties that are absolutely fine in harsh winters (some come from mountainous regions)

Those hebes are stunning! I planted my first one last fall...and the deer ate it. I struggle so badly with these durn deer in my area. The human population explosion here in the pnw has driven them closer and closer. They even ate one of my newly emerged rozanne geraniums yesterday. Anyway, i loved the plants you showed and really want some...i wonder if some varieties might be more deer resistant than others? What do you think? I have got to get to your nursery. I need to put it in my phone so i can just get directions and go the next day i feel up to it.

Thank you for sharing. I have taken a lot of cuttings from a Hebe shrub. The flowers are very long purple and the shrub itself is huge. These flowers are on my youtube picture. Do you know the name of this variety?

Just bought one with purple blooms. A bit rootbound. Is it safe to loosen the rootball before planting or will it damage my hebe? Thanks

Does your nursery ship these pants? If not could you give me a similar flowering shrub for zone 9? New subbie. Thanks for sharing.

Can i ask what state you are in? I thought from the name you NW that you would be in the north....But zone 8 seems further south than north...

Have wondered that myself. I live in Tennessee and am in zone 6b. The higher the number to ours is the hotter the zones. Don’t know much about the nw.

She’s in western Washington near Tacoma, out on the islands. I’m north of Seattle and I’m still in zone 8b, it’s very warm on the coast due to a current we get from Hawaii. It rarely freezes here even though we’re on the border of Canada.

i have a variagated hebe which froze at -7celsius ...(just one night) .... luckily i had it heavily mulched with autumn leaves and 2 branches that were totally covered with leaves -survived and looked as new... (all the rest died away) ...next year just one more new brach grew... so i wonder how much cold do hebe resist ? ...should i keep covering it with mulch every winter? ... mine seems like zone 8 ....
