You have done a super job of describing the various forms. What a wonderful public garden to visit. I also have Creme de Cassis in my garden. I love the two tone (top/under) colours of the flower. In the display garden, does it tell you which variety you are looking at? That would have been a nice addition to your video.

Thank you! I’m flattered. I love Creme de Cassis for the same reason ☺️ Yeah no this place doesn’t have name tags for dahlias. They do have them in the rose garden though. I think it’s because their dahlia garden is a trial garden… I’m guessing what that means is they dig out the bulbs and plant new varieties every year? But it would be so nice to know exactly what variety we’re looking at for sure 😉

Lovely video of a beautiful dahlia display in a public garden, especially for a novice gardener. I too love dahlias, particularly grown from seed. Being open faced, pollinators love them. Happy gardening to you as well!

Thank you ☺️ I’m so glad I found this place and yes, for a beginner like me, this is the pool of knowledge! Thanks to the Dahlia Trial Garden, I now have a good idea of what kind of dahlias I want for my garden at home. I have yet to grow dahlias from seeds but would really love to try. I’m definitely leaning towards the open-faced types because I so love the sound and sight of bees in the garden. I can’t wait for the next growing season. Happy gardening!

Thank you for your kind words ☺️ I’m so inspired after visiting this dahlia garden and now I have a rough idea of what varieties I wanna add to my garden at home. They’re such gorgeous flowers, aren’t they? Nothing quite compares to the magnificence of dahlias.

Where I live in zone 7b, we have to dig the dahlias tubers to store them during winter or just grow them as annuals. I have the yellow dinner plate. Yes the blooms are huge.

I heard that a lot of gardeners in my area do that too. I’m in zone 8b so it’s kinda hit or miss depending on how cold the winter gets. But so far, I’ve been lucky! (But then again, I’ve only been at this for 3 years) In the future, I might have to start digging them up especially now that I’m planning on having more dahlias. I wanna try my hands at the dinner plate dahlias for sure.. just thinking about having those large blooms in my garden already makes me so happy!

Oh you need more Dahlias! Do a video on which ones you choose for next year! Let me know if you want suggestions :) I wish you had had variety names on the dahlias you showed.

I really do! I wish I had a bigger garden but don’t we all? I’m really leaning towards singles/semi-doubles and collarettes because I love the sight and sound of bees in my garden. Plus, these are the new kinds I just discovered. I’m so new at this lol. Do you have any of these that you’d recommend? I have a small patch of pollinator garden out front and my theme is pinks and purples. I’m thinking of adding a couple of dahlias there… somewhere. I wish they had the variety name tag by each plant for us to see at the park, too. It would make it so easy when we shop for tubers. Oh well, at least now I know roughly what to expect when I go for a new type of dahlia.

@@Linasgardens Swan Island Dahlias is a reputable seller. I would recommend Hula (single), Gerrie Hoek (waterlily), Willy Willy (orchid), Lastly I would suggest buying some seed from them. Seeds usually grow into singles and it is an affordable way to have beautiful flowers for the bees. I hope you find this helpful and continue to provide wonderful gardening content. Oh please check out Bluetiful....it's not a single. But it's in your palate and is lovely!
