How to Repair An Anti Siphon Garden Faucet

  • A customer of mine had a leaking faucet, but it wasn't what you think. The sand in his well water was clogging the anti siphon valve and causing it to drip out the top cap when he ran the hose. Here is how to deal with this common problem.

    This is for "your" faucet lol. Ppl make vids and know what they know, but just enough to mislead majority.....there are many different styles. They are NOT standardized, and not all caps pop off !! Some screw off, some pop off and some are permanently made on and Don come off at all.

    I can see starting at 3:02 that your faucet is at the wrong angle to allow the water to drain from the the faucet after it is shut off. You should check and make sure that it is angled down a little so that the water in the pipe will drain out and not freeze inside the pipe and break it.good video.

    I installed 3 of these when I re plumbed my house with 3/4 " pex. They do not let enough water through to run a single sprinkler !!!! Now I may have to pay someone 500 to 1000 dollars to climb back under the house to replace these with something that I can use to keep my yard alive in the 110 * heat here this summer. Never would buy again.

    Whoever put mine in before, siliconed mine or glued it, it wouldn't come out without me damaging it, and then I had to torch it to get all the broken glued plastic out. When I went to screw the new one in, the threads were all stripped and bent, which may be why the person did it like that. Anyway, it would never screw in right, I may have to get a whole new faucet. Your video was perfect though.

    Can it be the anti-siphon valve if no water comes out at all? I have one leaking like yours and the other valve nothing comes out if at all (different spigots, different sides of the house).

    Thank you Daniel,my problem is with water leaking behind the spiget, it's the same spiget as the one in this video. When I have the hose connected, there is not much pressure coming out of the hose, and water spurts out of the siding of the house. When I went inside water spilled on the carpet..however when I don't have hose connected..water from the spiget flows out good and doesn't come out of siding. What is your thoughts..do I need a silcock replacement..or would a pipe have burst behind the spiget.

    What holds the up and down moving valve *_ || _* from falling down into the faucet shaft?
    The piston falls out of its clear plastic holder which screws into the metal top opening.

    Nice - this was baffling the heck out of me. The anti-siphon cap, valve you name it had come off my two nozzle garden faucet. The video explained why it was important to have it sealed... or else would have made the mistake of just plugging it with whatever nut fits in and sealing with some plumbers putty! Also it gave me the name of the part I needed to search HD or Lowes ... anyway, thanks very much!

    This seal caulk or hose bib.thanks for the excellent video it’s installed with the back fall so it won’t drain it self that need to be fixed on the other side of the wall and you need to shut the water off some time if it’s px pip you can push it down and it will peak the plastic pipe up.in any case this hose bib is not draining because of that Good video bad installation

    Went to turn on my outside faucet this morning and got the “more water coming out of the top than the hose symptom” you mention. Followed your directions and the problem is solved. Thanks so much for the help. Nothing appeared visibly to be blocking the valve but I rinsed it and flushed the fixture as you said. Works great again. Thanks!

  • @Ace_Man_Gaming
    @Ace_Man_Gaming 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Tried this after watching, but the plastic piece that's screwed into the spigot is SERIOUSLY stuck. I broke the top off the plastic piece trying to turn it with a pair of pliers. I don't know if it was just screwed in way too tight or it had some kind of glue holding it in. I'm currently trying to break the rest out without breaking the spigot. I went through hell trying to install this spigot.

    • @DanielHeap60Cubits
      @DanielHeap60Cubits  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry yours broke - they can get brittle some times. The screw style tops are generally metal. The plastic tops usually pop off. Either way, you should be able to buy a kit with the top included. If you can't find the replacement at the hardware store, try looking online.

    • @Ace_Man_Gaming
      @Ace_Man_Gaming 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I found the repair kit at Lowe's, but it includes everything, and is $22. It was also sold out. I bought a metal cap to screw in, but I think the spigot threads are stripped. It holds a little, but I don't have a gasket to fit in there, which may be a large part of the leaking problem. I'll get it eventually.

    • @DanielHeap60Cubits
      @DanielHeap60Cubits  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      x16900 Sorry for the battle. Sometimes this is just the case. If it is messed up bad enough, you may need to replace the entire faucet. I'll cross my fingers that you won't have to go that far.

    • @DanielHeap60Cubits
      @DanielHeap60Cubits  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bryan Mangano A leak from behind the plate is most likely a crack in the brass housing. The portion of the housing that you see in front of the plate is attached to a pipe that extends into the house. This attachment is made at the factory and usually cannot be repaired. My best guess is that you will need to replace the entire hose bib - sorry:(
