My grandmother had a 68, gold with a black top, numbers matching with a 302, all black interior. Some of my greatest memories as a kid was doing burnouts and hot rodding with grandma in that car. I really wish that car stayed in the family, and sometimes wonder where it ended up. Great video!!
I'm a proud owner of a 74 Maverick and every time I watch Big Muscle I get even happier... thanks!! So, I'll go behind the wheel of my small block and roll through the gears... hehe...
I used to have one of them. 1967 GTA. Hypo 390, 715 Holley, 325 locker, smog exempt. It was even the same golden green metallic. My father drove it for one mile and got into a quite innocent accident. But it was totaled. --And yes, it hauled ass!!
Mike and co. thank you from the bottom of my heart for kicking off this series again. Suffice to say I was giggling like a schoolgirl when this popped up in my feed.
Here you go! 393 Windsor stroker, 10.6:1 compression, Holley 750 double pumper, Hooker 1.75 inch headers, Performance Automatic C4 transmission, Continental 10 inch converter. Around 500hp at the crank with no nitrous.
Great to see you back Mike. Two thumbs up to what you said at 09:18. I couldn't get behind the wheel, but was a passenger in my uncle's Ford 41 Coupe with a 351 Cleveland under the hood and it felt incredible when he jumped on it in third.
I bought my first truck when thirteen. it has been a farther son thing ever since. its a 1969 ford f100 shortbed stepside. when I bought it it had a tired old 300 six and a three speed on the floor. it blew about 2 years later. then after that I put a 5 speed over drive manual and another hopped up 300 in it. this summer I'm putting in my dream swap, big block 390 bored 3o over with a mild cam and a built c6 with a shift kit. little truck is gonna be one hell of a sleeper and I cannot wait.
Now you did it, you made me miss my old 67 Mustang coupe. Top loader, Centerforce clutch, headers, Crane cam, nine inch with limited slip, Holley, etc. Someone in Europe is now enjoying it.
Good Job Mike.. So glad you put this car on here I'm 52 now and was 17 When my friend Rick bought this car... It raced a lot @ OCIR in the 70's .. and even Terminal Island in the early 80's... Great Meeting you guys @ Bob's in Burbank the other night... So glad you guys gave this car a lil time..
Dude i am not american but i am in love with muscle cars just look at them! I love almost every car but muscle cars are something extraordinary this is pure power.
Loved this video, I'm 100% a French hot hatch guy, but I appreciate the old Muscle cars and this one hooks up so well by the look of it and has a great story, nice one Mike.
Cool Mustang. Love these older Stangs over the new cars. Much more personality in them. Same goes for the old Camaros. The stretch of road he is driving on with the white fencing reminds me of the road they used in the scene from Road House were Brad Wesley is driving the red 5.0 Mustang convertible. The swerve scene was filmed outside of Sanger, Ca. on Trimmer Springs Rd.
Car sounds sweet! I'm going to make my 67 more of a track car though... I agree about driving old cars. Sure it's not an easy car to drive. Mine is actually kinda scary above 60mph because of the play in the steering. It is nowhere near as easy to drive as my wife's Jetta but it is way more fun to be in!
I wish the 2015 Ford mustang gets all this grunt and looks and the same classic interior with superb road insulation and superb engine noise isolation to cabin and the classy interior with superior built that would rest in the minds of people for the next 50 years, also the new IRS will be a revelation for the Mustang, Mach1 is getting resurrected I hope Ford is doing the rightthing
This is the most outstanding car show ever produced. Great Job Guys. Who the hell needs SPEED, or should I say "FOX SPORTS NET" I don't even have cable. who needs it. Got You Tube. I have been waiting for someone to do a show just like this for ever and it never happened. Till now. Got a loyal watcher, here.
A really nice video featuring the same year and color (lime-gold) as ours, the Sniff Bros. We've been drag racing ours for 17 years. 9.91 @ 135 mph all motor.
Because of the raw, visceral experience you get from one of these machines. It's not about finesse or lap times or social status. It's about feeling. Feeling the power, hearing the engine, feeling like you are interacting with the car, not just steering it. You don't feel that connected to modern cars. And you don't have to be American. You just have to have 5 senses.
i was never a big fan of the mustangs, this one did not appear to be very interesting to me when i just look at the preview photo of this video. but as the show goes it just gets more and more attractive and by the end of the video i just love this car. i even pause the video, waited for like 20 mins to finish all my texts and stuff so that i can really enjoy the video from the start to the end. i guess this is the amazing thing about muscle car and the amazing thing about this show.
If you really want a fastback that badly, and don't care about resale value, you can buy a coupe to fastback conversion kit with everything you need for about 5 grand. Granted, you'll have to cut and weld a lot, and since it won't be an original fastback, the resale value will plummet, but if it was a junker that you've restored (like I hope to someday) then it won't matter. mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalog/SheetMetal/fastback_conversion.htm
Drive's shows are done in rotations. That means, if Big Muscle is on drive for the next 13 weeks, Tuned is out until those 13 weeks are up. Chris Harris' show is constant all year round, but sometimes Chris and his cameraman need to take a break. Don't be upset when your favorite show suddenly doesn't show up in your subscription box, there are specific reasons why.
What he said around 10 minutes is very true. I drove a 65 289 the other day and I'm hooked. I drive a BMW right now and I promised myself in a couple years I'm going to get myself a classic mustang.
Love that ford nine inch rear end. All the horsepower in the world can be handled. The new high displacement stroker windsors are awesome. Running mid to low eleven's in that car is incredible. Pony car's are sweet!!
davess357 The Ford 9 inch rearend is virtually bullet proof. It has been and still is the preferred choice in most high powered race cars like NASCAR and NHRA. The weak links are the axles, u joints and drive shafts.
I've got a friend of mine that let me drive his 400 plus HP Fox Body... Oh man it was great! Just simple straight line horsepower. I asked him "How do you control yourself with this thing?" I mean if I had it I'd be chirping the tires on every shift and burning them up crab walking sideways down the road at least once a day! He said it takes discipline to own a car like this, you just leave rubber where ever you go... At 49 years old, I'm not old enough for a car like this yet!
Yep, Signore, I totally agree with all your comments. People seem to forget, Yes, a dual clutch trans(what all the latest & greatest exotics are running these days) are great for acceleration and will allow a car with a mere 500hp run deep into the 11s on street tires(with AWD of course), try racing race after race with that DCT(with 3000-4000rpm dumps) & see how long that DCT will last.... an old school automatic & loose torque converter will last race after race all day long, that's it's charm
That was my first car out of high school, I slapped a Hipo 289 in it and it was a bad ass ride! Unfortunately I had to sell it. But if I could get my hands on another I would in a heart beat.
Glad to see you back, Mike. Excellent choice in car (out of the park!). Truly kept just right, though I'm with you on the NOS shot. Cheers from Chicago!
A college degree is very important. My wife and I worked very hard to put four sons through college. Two of my sons have several muscle cars because of their high paying jobs. I am 66 and have restored and sold many muscle cars. I was just trying to be funny.
"The history and significance of these old cars far out shadow any of these boring new cars that really bear no significance at all." - this statement says it all.
This is what I have been waiting for on this show! just got my 68 barracuda fast back on the road today after a long work on interior and needless to say im fucking happy that I get to hear that 360 prr again ;)
Awesome car! I would like to see a 1970-72 Ford Maverick with a bad ass engine. This is a car that never was advertised as a muscle car but in my mind its light, slick buddy lines, and its mean looking! Show us a Maverick Big Muscle!
Thanks kjohn919 - you're dead on with this comment. These are not checkbook cars that can be bought in your local showroom, but vehicles that have been in the same families for years, and many times decades. To the owners their irreplaceable and priceless and we treat them as such.
great thanks a bunch, im the type of guy that likes to see a quick spec sheet (even if i have to pause it to see it) just to get an idea of the actual speed, videos can be somewhat misleading (up 2 a point this is obviously quick)
My grandmother had a 68, gold with a black top, numbers matching with a 302, all black interior. Some of my greatest memories as a kid was doing burnouts and hot rodding with grandma in that car. I really wish that car stayed in the family, and sometimes wonder where it ended up. Great video!!
Jeff Caballero I wish I could like your comment more than once.
Your grandma is a goddamn badass
67 mustang fastback, most beautiful rear end ever put on an american car.. my next project!
Looks like we have the same plan.
Either one of y’all having one yet if so im jealous. I bought my 10 year old daughter a 1967 GT coupe... we’re working our butts off on
I'm a proud owner of a 74 Maverick and every time I watch Big Muscle I get even happier... thanks!!
So, I'll go behind the wheel of my small block and roll through the gears... hehe...

Love this Mustang! No extra pretty goodies...just all business!!!! The Dude driving....what a dork!
Around 500hp at the crank with no nitrous.
stall?
What size wheels and tires are on the fastback ?
That Mustang looks and sounds like more fun than the hooker-a-week program at the Bunny Ranch.
Tell me more about this bunny ranch
Great to see you back Mike. Two thumbs up to what you said at 09:18. I couldn't get behind the wheel, but was a passenger in my uncle's Ford 41 Coupe with a 351 Cleveland under the hood and it felt incredible when he jumped on it in third.
LETS GIVE IT UP FOR DRIVE. THE BEST WELL ROUNDED NETWORK ON TH-cam.

I couldn't imagine how tight of a fit that would be fully caged. Slick ride!
I'm glad to see Big Muscle back!! Yesssss

Glad the show is back
I am very blessed to drive a small block muscle truck... every day. Lowered 77 silverado step. 400 horse to work everyday is a lot of fun.
My dad's friend had a '67 convertible when I was growing up, so I have always loved these cars. Thanks for an awesome video! :)
Awesome! Thanks for a great video and the love you guys put into the shooting
Love the big tire look on muscle cars, hate low profile tires on them.
I LOVE my 71' Camaro
I wish the 2015 Ford mustang gets all this grunt and looks and the same classic interior with superb road insulation and superb engine noise isolation to cabin and the classy interior with superior built that would rest in the minds of people for the next 50 years, also the new IRS will be a revelation for the Mustang, Mach1 is getting resurrected I hope Ford is doing the rightthing
so glad to see big muscle is back!
I love this show.
Muscle car, pony car.....whatever.
All the cars that Mike features on this show have heart....and that's what matters.
Very nice stang, looks like a blast to drive. Nice to see the slots on it. Old school 👍👍
Drive just gets better and better!
This is the most outstanding car show ever produced. Great Job Guys. Who the hell needs SPEED, or should I say "FOX SPORTS NET" I don't even have cable. who needs it. Got You Tube.

Awesome. I've missed this show.
A really nice video featuring the same year and color (lime-gold) as ours, the Sniff Bros. We've been drag racing ours for 17 years. 9.91 @ 135 mph all motor.
But then again good show and good working getting to all the details. Always entertaining.
don't know a thing about American muscle but this is awesome love cars !
This mustang is amazing . Very nice color !
So glad Big Muscle is back!!!

The old mustang is the only muscle car i like-such a wild beauty!!
Enjoyed the video, love me some mustang. Dang, eight years since the last comment.
Best TH-cam series ever!!!!!!
Nice to have Big Muscle back. Keep at it Mike, you are becoming quite the host.
Musto hit the gym in the off season. Awesome episode!!
God damn... it's about time Big Muscle came back!!!!
i was never a big fan of the mustangs, this one did not appear to be very interesting to me when i just look at the preview photo of this video. but as the show goes it just gets more and more attractive and by the end of the video i just love this car. i even pause the video, waited for like 20 mins to finish all my texts and stuff so that i can really enjoy the video from the start to the end. i guess this is the amazing thing about muscle car and the amazing thing about this show.
Same here man - this thing was simply fabulous. Just a well done, clean, no bullshit muscle car.
Thank God Big Muscle is back.
Finally; someone actually thinks the same way I do about new cars. Fuck them. Old cars or nothing.
Old cars are (usually) the best because they have shit tons of character. Some new cars are alright, but classics are usually the best.
My dream muscle car . One day I will own a fastback
Armando Gonzalez I bought my car in the summer and was looking for a fastback and they are too expensive so I bought a coupe
If you really want a fastback that badly, and don't care about resale value, you can buy a coupe to fastback conversion kit with everything you need for about 5 grand. Screw cutting a nice coupe. Yes, coupes are cheaper, but they are nice too. If you want a fastback, save more money.
glad to see that big muscle is back.
I am so glad that Big Muscle is finally back :]
finally he's back. been dying for this series to come back!

Welcome back Big Muscle, missed u guys!
What he said around 10 minutes is very true. I drove a 65 289 the other day and I'm hooked. I drive a BMW right now and I promised myself in a couple years I'm going to get myself a classic mustang.
I could listen to that noise all day!
It's been such a long time since the last BIG MUSCLE. I missed it.
Love that ford nine inch rear end. All the horsepower in the world can be handled. The new high displacement stroker windsors are awesome. Running mid to low eleven's in that car is incredible. Pony car's are sweet!!
Actually, all the horsepower in the world can be handled, but not if you have sticky slicks. Those 9" rear ends did break.
davess357 The Ford 9 inch rearend is virtually bullet proof. It has been and still is the preferred choice in most high powered race cars like NASCAR and NHRA. The weak links are the axles, u joints and drive shafts.
I agree, studagte. The ring and pinion are sound.
Yes ! Mr Angry is back ! Awesome episode, this new season is going to be amazing !
Cars with scratches and patina are cool !
Man since I was a kid always wanted a 67 ot 68 fastback
Mike, I missed you soooo much ! So great to see you back on /DRIVE
Another great video Mike. We met briefly at the botanical gardens in SF in April. I was the fellow Astorian. Keep up the good work.
Big Muscle is back !!! happpy to see the new Vid ! i love those models ! the eponime of the stangs .
One of the purest exhaust notes, a big Windsor.
If it makes you giggle like a school girl, its got my vote...Man I love your job!!!
i miss this show
Same here - this car was outstanding!
I'm glad to see you again, Mike!!!

my sub was just POUNDING for the whole duration of this video! lol such a beautiful car!
Great to have you back Mike, BIGGG MUSCLE!!!!
That was my first car out of high school, I slapped a Hipo 289 in it and it was a bad ass ride! Unfortunately I had to sell it. But if I could get my hands on another I would in a heart beat.
love the rubber caked on the paint at the back hahahahahha
Glad to see you back, Mike. Excellent choice in car (out of the park!). Truly kept just right, though I'm with you on the NOS shot. Cheers from Chicago!

Thanks 6
my favorite big muscle yet
"The history and significance of these old cars far out shadow any of these boring new cars that really bear no significance at all." - this statement says it all.
This makes me really miss my 68.
I love this guy. He is the bomb!
Finally BIG MUSCLE is back......... YESSSS!!!
This is one bad ass Mustang.
Finally Big Muscle Returns!
This is what I have been waiting for on this show! just got my 68 barracuda fast back on the road today after a long work on interior and needless to say im fucking happy that I get to hear that 360 prr again ;)
Dude. Hidden Valley is the best relaxing drive in LA County. It's god damn awesome out there.
What a great video. I love what Musto has to say about cars.
Awesome car! I would like to see a 1970-72 Ford Maverick with a bad ass engine. This is a car that never was advertised as a muscle car but in my mind its light, slick buddy lines, and its mean looking! Show us a Maverick Big Muscle!
FINALLY BIG MUSCLE IS ON AGAIN!!! MY FAVE CAR SHOW NEXT TO ROADKILL :)
Jeez this thing sounds just great.
Thanks kjohn919 - you're dead on with this comment. These are not checkbook cars that can be bought in your local showroom, but vehicles that have been in the same families for years, and many times decades. To the owners their irreplaceable and priceless and we treat them as such.

Happy to see Big Muscle back ! Great video
I've been waiting for another season of big muscle!
Mr. Musto got some muscles himself too :)
gorgeous!
big muscle is back!!
best drive channel
I'm not big on domestics but the Fastback was my favorite car growing up
Keep up the good work, Mike. I'm a Mopar Nut. But if I had a 'Stang - THIS would be it. Awesome work.
great thanks a bunch, im the type of guy that likes to see a quick spec sheet (even if i have to pause it to see it) just to get an idea of the actual speed, videos can be somewhat misleading (up 2 a point this is obviously quick)
I like how the host's voice always goes high pitched when he's talking about the specifications and attributes of cars
