- My Mum Cried After Telling Her I Became a Muslim (Emotional)
You read that title correctly. Yes I told my mother I am now a Muslim. What led to my coming clean is painted with a very beautiful story. You could recall that I got sick when I landed in Qatar. Right?
My medical condition became worse and it prevented me from exploring the country better. So through the aid of some of you guys, I returned and went straight to the hospital for a surgery.
This was despite the financial temptation I had. I wouldn’t be going deep into what exactly happened. Yet the unfortunate turn of events nearly stopped the surgery.
Right in the hospital my mother was all in the Catholic mode. She came with a crucifix, prayer books, my favorite rosaries and many more.
Honestly, it was a hard struggle trying to pretend like I was into all of these things like before.
But guys I summoned that hard courage to let her know the current state of affairs. It was a hot exchange. For the first time I knew my mother wasn’t even aware that I had anything to do with Islam on TH-cam.
She had to change from English into my native language. It was hot and the result of my revelation would shock you!

Quran
Quran (5:51) - "O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."
Quran (5:80) - "You will see many of them befriending those who disbelieve; certainly evil is that which their souls have sent before for them, that Allah became displeased with them and in chastisement shall they abide." Befriending unbelievers is one sign that a Muslim is bound for Hell.
Quran (3:28) - "Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah: except by way of precaution, that ye may Guard yourselves from them..." This last part means that a faithful Muslim is allowed to feign friendship if it is of benefit. Renowned scholar Ibn Kathir states that "believers are allowed to show friendship outwardly, but never inwardly."
Quran (3:118) - "O you who believe! do not take for intimate friends from among others than your own people, they do not fall short of inflicting loss upon you; they love what distresses you; vehement hatred has already appeared from out of their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater still; indeed, We have made the communications clear to you, if you will understand." This verse not only warns Muslims not to take non-Muslims as friends, but suggests that that the rest of the world is out to get them and can't be trusted. 4:101 says that unbelievers are "open enemies" of Muslims.
Quran (9:23) - "O ye who believe! Choose not your fathers nor your brethren for friends if they take pleasure in disbelief rather than faith. Whoso of you taketh them for friends, such are wrong-doers" Even family members are not to be taken as friends if they do not accept Islam. (There are harsher interpretations of this verse. The same (ninth) sura advocates "slaying the unbeliever wherever ye find them").
Quran (53:29) - "Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world."
Quran (3:85) - "And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers."
Quran (3:10) - "(As for) those who disbelieve, surely neither their wealth nor their children shall avail them in the least against Allah, and these it is who are the fuel of the fire." Those who do not believe in Muhammad are but fuel for the fire of Hell (also 66:6, 2:24. 21:98).
Quran (7:44) - "The Companions of the Garden will call out to the Companions of the Fire: "We have indeed found the promises of our Lord to us true: Have you also found Your Lord's promises true?" They shall say, "Yes"; but a crier shall proclaim between them: "The curse of Allah is on the wrong-doers" Muslims in heaven will amuse themselves by looking down on non-Muslims in Hell and mocking them while they are being tortured (see 22:19-22).
Quran (1:5-7) - "Show us the straight path, The path of those whom Thou hast favored; Not the (path) of those who earn Thine anger nor of those who go astray" This is a prayer that Muslims are to repeat each day. "Those who earn Thine anger" refers to Jews; "those who go astray" refers to Christians (see Sahih Bukhari (12:749) and Sahih Muslim 34:6448)).
Hadith and Sira
Sahih Muslim (1:417) - Taken to mean that one's own relatives should not be taken as friends if they are not Muslim.
Sahih Muslim (2167) - "Allah's Messenger said: Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it."
Abu Dawud (41:4815) - "The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend."
Abu Dawud (41:4832) - The Messenger of Allah [said] "Do not keep company with anyone but a believer and do not let anyone eat your food but one who is pious."
Sahih Bukhari (59:572) - "O you who believe! Take not my enemies And your enemies as friends offering them (Your) love even though they have disbelieved in that Truth (i.e. Allah, Prophet Muhammad and this Quran) which has come to you."

Brother I understand where your mom is coming from. As a Nigerian Muslim from the North, I must say that your mother is even generous in her opinion of Muslims because one peculiar thing about religion in Nigeria is that both religions are both marred by geopolitical and cultural influences. As for the use of charms, it's haram and is strongly frowned upon even in the North. Just as it is common in the Christian south. But It is an African thing and some people practice it irrespective of religion or tribe.. what I would say is I pray that our generation of Nigerians are able to bridge the gap and tension that exists between the predominantly Christian/South and the predominantly Muslim/North in Nigeria. And also, I pray your mom and family accepts your choice. Her reaction is understandable. She's shocked and sad and even incredulous that her son would become Muslim. Of course you don't expect her to accept this easily. But she will, eventually insha'Allah. Just be good to her and your family. Read Surah Al Luqman where Allah says we should be dutiful to our parents especially our mothers because they carried us in weakness and hardship and nourished us for a period of time from their bodies. Obey her and be dutiful to her but not in the rejection of faith. Pray for her also to be guided. It's not easy but may Allah may it easy for you. May Allah imbue you with patience to bear the trials that may befall you as a result of your reversion.

Akhi be strong. I am also an Ibo and you know how stubborn we are. My mum cried when I first became a Muslim and my uncles wanted to take me to see a priest. Nearly 17 years later and I can say that we have a good relationship and she loves my wife. Pray to Allah for him to make things easy for you. Everything will be ok, this is just a test. My mum said all the same things about being raised a Christian and joining the Housa tribe. If you stay firm and teach her the beauty of Islam, she will eventually incline towards you in sha'Allah.
Then you are not a muslim because christian and Muslims can't love each other as what quran said

He was crying when he died and he will make a special shifa for him on the day of judgement for Allah to lessen his punishment. The prophet Muhammad also loved his mother who was also a disbeliever. You can love the person but hate the disbelief. You have made takfeer on me, and you are not qualified to do so because you are not a Qa'di. Secondly, when you make takfeer on someone, if you are wrong Allah will place the claim that you made upon another Muslim onto yourself, now potentially making you a disbeliever. May Allah guide you out of your ignorance. Such a comment doesn't come from the general Muslims so your motives are very questionable.

As a Nigerian i can count the number of Igbo Muslims i have met, they are not that many. However the number seems to be increasing as one neighbor of ours in Abj recently accepted Islam.

I told her why I choose to become a Muslim and because I had a dream.I was 20 years old back than.. now I’m 28 I converted when I was 27. In my dream I was doing (Sujūd/ prostration) in a white room. and I was trying to get up but I couldn’t someone was holding me on the grown. I looked back as I was in sjudu but no one was behinds me. Than I say Allahu Akbar. Didn’t know what that means back than.
Hold on to Islam brother because Islam is everything we have. alhamdulillah Allah have shown us the truth 🤲🏽

Mt mother is my biggest enemy it makes me sad. I am the only Muslim in my family. I won't give up asking Allah to guide my siblings. May Allah swt grant us Jaanah AL firdus Ameen Ya Rabb. May Allah swt grant us strength and patience Ameen

Treat your mother with so much love and respect. She deserves it Inshaallah with time she will understand. Good luck
You MUST treat your parents in the best possibe kind, sincere, responsible, grateful, submissive and amenable way, no matter what their faith is. Until and unless they don’t force you to leave the religion or go against the Islamic teachings. You have to provide food and shelter to them as it’s obligatory upon you. All this time you should be sincerely praying for them.
After conversion, you will get rid of many bad habits, you will stop many sins and will eventually become a much better person. Your parents will notice the changes in you.
Then in good time you should softly discuss and preach Islam to them in the best of manners.
May Allah guide you and your family.

Am a revert too and I reverted at early age the family disowned me several times 😭 but I was guided by Allah the Almighty and remained firm since I knew that everyone to survive must be a Muslim, Alhamudulillah after reaching adult age I confessed my reversion to Islam, they said as our mom said,that they have never had any muslim for centuries! They decided to take me to church on Sunday with a big cross!, I ran to out of home early morning when they were sleeping my grandparents, to my mother's family, Alhamudulillah with few years to pass they Acknowledged me as a Muslim!
That is y I say a man who hasn't confirmed with His family that He is a Muslim and He bares with the backfire from the family to remain a Muslim shouldn't marry you my muslim sisters because soon He may turn back to disbelief if He fails to stay firm on Islam (true religion), which means you may endup following him into disbelief or ending up producing disbelievers
Be mindful of Allah and
Be careful of Shaitan and its descendants! So that you may be successful on earth and hereafter 🤲🏽
