    I second the gorilla glue fix for your beater/user swords. Not only does it hold the habaki, but it also adds a rubbery like pop when you break that seal with your thumb. I'm a fan. Thanks for giving me the pool noodle fix credit.

      @guillaumeforndran5822 yes if you can get it to a cotton ball...lol...it just needs to push against the blade to stop it from moving, and pool noodles doesn't absorb moisture so it's good for the sword...or oil soaked cotton but that's messy...no bother at all

      Just make sure you don't go with too much as it does expand as it dries, start with a thin layer, test, if it holds and is not to tight, it will pop out if done right....trial and error...you can always add more...hope you are successful, and many thanks

      Well I have one sword, the Raptor unokubi from Hanwei that has changed hands and traveled around the country is still holding a tension fit so I would say years, but I imagine it would vary on use, you may need to reapply at some point but, yes it should last from 3 to 5 to more years for the what I personally have seen, as long as it's done correctly

    Great idea. Does anticipating moisture expansion play a role in this procedure?

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks...it is all about anticipation of how the gorilla glue expands and hardens, much trial & error with using it shows a thin coating can expand enough to give the Habaki a well molded fit...always better to add less then more initially

      Get yourself a metal wood filer and carefully shave some wood from the sides of the Koiguchi opening in the saya, only minimal until you get a better fit, less is better file and test consistency is key not to take off too much and weaken the saya

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude you can do what you want, wood stents are a choice for most and I would probably use that method for ultra expensive swords, but the glue fix is amazing at that it keeps a tight fit and 'pops" out when needed for me it's a perfect solution for that area..the Habaki molds into it immediately....if done right!

      Would gorilla glue be good for a high quality sword @JoeSteel1

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This method will work with any katana that needs the issue addressing, but if you mean high quality like in the thousands or a antique Nihanto, I would NOT recommend as it may diminish the value, for that you want traditional wood stents or have a professional adjust it...but Long answer quality has no bearing if it will work, question is if you should

      Not sure if hot glue has the expansion characteristics of the G glue, and the g glue when drying 2x to 3x it's size forms a plastic mold that can conform to the Habaki, not sure if Hot Glue will act the same, never used it like that
