This was one of the songs that was on constant replay my JR/SR year of high school. It'd be a Friday night during the year and in the summer I'd have window open, breeze coming through, hearing the sounds of a faraway train, and I'd be thinking about him.

I went to a concert back in 08' with my two cousins to go see Metro Station, Good Charlotte, The Maine, and Boys like Girls as the headliner... my cousins feet started hurting right before Boys like Girls came up so we had to leave... As I followed them slowly around the fencing of the event I hear this song come up... and I'm singing as LOUD as I can through the covered fencing and jumping up and down... my cousins finally sat down outside the event and I got to sing along to a few songs... but without spectating the performance... just listening to them perform as I celebrated and sang with such joy. I got my own little version, listening from the outside in.

This band was a part of two different parts of my life. Times in my life that I look back on with happiness despite them being somewhat difficult times in my life. The first being when I was in high school. I was very 'boy crazy' (or maybe just crazy?) and VERY EMOTIONAL. Like over the top emotional. And I started using music to kinda understand and express how I felt. This was around the time 'the great escape' came out and I was instantly hooked. To me,their songs matched so well with my craziness and extreme emotions.
The other time in my life was a few years after high school and i had moved out on my own for the first time. I was very depressed and homesick. I also wasn't a very good person at the time. I did drugs, drank a lot, cheated on my boyfriend. I was just in a bad spot in life. But then I met this guy and we became friends almost instantly. We were just alike. And we connected so well especially when it came to music. And to my surprise he actually loved this band too lol which was kinda rare for guys back then for some reason. We played this album so many times lol those times ended up being some of my most cherished memories.
When this came out things was more simpler in high school so much memories will cherish those days

I can't listen to this song without tears. It just takes me back to 7th grade when I was at the peak of being bullied and being so depressed I was suicidal. I remember this being a new song and I was at the mall, Hot Topic. It was a great day then all of a sudden I heard this song on the speakers. Idk, but I had never heard anything like it. From that day I made that song my ringtone and listened to it every time I walked down the hallway (including Tokio Hotel) and it gave me a sense of relief. Now 12 years later whenever I hear this song it just gives me so much nostalgia and the same sense of relief I felt that day at Hot Topic. If nothing else, I hope this band knows someone out there gained strength from their music. God bless you all!
