      Deserved? Well, if she HIT routines consistently she’d have had a lot more. Vault 2008- would have likely been bronze if she hadn’t gone early. Beam 2008- completely botched- and missed- an entire element which was hugely costly. Floor 2008… I don’t think she’d have medaled anyway as she hadn’t scored higher than the first three throughput the games, but one never knows. The reality is, the athletes with the most medals are the ones who most consistently perform at peak.

      @@saragrant9749 Agreed. Her BB EF routine in Athens was pretty good but her wobble after the back flip 1/1 really cost her a medal. After this she won a few medals at the Euros in 2005 but her performances at WCs in 2005 were not strong enough to medal. Then in 2006 and onwards under the new COP her routines (and vaults) were generally not difficult enough, especially on UB. Her beam set was competitive but she had too many small errors at crucial moments, including in the Beijing EF. Overall, she just wasn't able to adjust to the new COP.

      @@poshboindeed- and she’s certainly not the first I saw that had that situation. It’s a shame because she was a fantastic gymnast, full of elegance and ability but just not with enough consistency to garner those coveted medals. Her bars I always felt were a case of just not being entirely comfortable and “at one” with the apparatus. Many a gymnast I’ve seen over the years had one event- usually bars or beam- that challenged them and for Anna it was definitely bars. Some certainly could be contributed to her coaching. Those three world/Olympic medals were well earned though, along with the European ones. I do wonder if she is now coaching- she certainly would make an excellent one.

    I feel like she should've gotten bronze. Even tho her difficulty was brought down by the missed connection, she made up for it do a switch ring leap instead of just a switch split leap so it didn't bring her difficulty down really.

    • @saragrant9749

      Hesitation still cost a bit too much- not just broken connectors but considered an error. That’s all it took with that 10 system.

      @@Greatgownsbeautifulgownss I’m aware she did, but in that system connection was still factored into the overall score. A broken connection, whether it altered start value or not was still costly. Eremia had no such break and that’s why she won bronze and not Anna. Sad, but reality.

    The story of Anna Pavlova is a story about 4th place...UNDESERVED 4th PLACE! I can't say much about her 4th place finish here, if only she didn't miss her second connection. BUT, she didn't deserve 4th in the All-Around here! Her vault was underscored and the 3rd place gymnast, I forget her name but I believe she was from China and I remember she was overscored! AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HER 4TH PLACE FINISH IN THE BEAM FINALS IN BEIJING IN '08!!!! Yes, she missed her first back handstand, BUT SHE DIDNT NEED IT! Cheng Fei was RIDICULOUSLY overscored (Actually, the entire Olympics the Chinese were overscored on beam! Specifically Cheng Fei in the BB finals and the Chinese during the team final). She had way too many LARGE balance checks to receive and execution OVER 9.0! She received a 9.150 execution which is absolutly ridiculous! She CLEARY had a worse performance than her qualification routine and yet OUTSCORED her qualification routine! Some judges in the BB finals gave her a 9.3 execution....WHAT!?!??!?! INSANE!!! Even Cheng Fei HERSELF was surprised by her score! You could hear her say "Whoa!" when it was shown! Criminal! The fact that Anna Pavlova went her career with only 2 Olympic bronze medals is nuts!

    • @saragrant9749
      @saragrant9749 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pavlova would’ve taken bronze in beam if she HAD NOT MISSED AN ENTIRE ELEMENT!! That’s more costly than the bobbles by Cheng unfortunately.

    I wish Anna had won the bronze, but I rewatched Eremia's routine and thought it was a great routine and cleaner than Anna's. She had a little hesitation, which probably cost her the bronze. Overall, that beam final was neck in neck. Even though I prefer Catalina Ponor to Carly Patterson, it must have been a difficult for the judge to decide the gold medalist. It must be the same for Anna vs Alexandria.

    • @saragrant9749
      @saragrant9749 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was definitely the downside of the 10 scoring system. She had a 10 value- until the hesitation. It was just enough to lower it to a 9.9 which made the difference. In a later code she might have still had enough start value.

    • @Ian.D.

      I think her switch ring instead of the intended switch leap brought back her SV at 10.00 and made up for the broken connection but cost her in execution. But I could be wrong, I'm not familiar with the 2001-2005 CoP, easily my most hated one ever.

      She was scored based on PERFORMANCE. Here, a hesitation that broke connection and incurred a deduction cost her. In 2008, a completely missed element cost her- among other things. You don’t win medals when others hit cleaner, simple fact.

    A front aerial on the beam seems like the scariest thing ever because it's blind and so much is relying on that one foot to land. i'm surprised noone ever misses it. When I was a gymnast us guys would dare each other to try beam stuff and the most we did was standing back flips.
