I took my first clock apart 50 years ago. It is still apart. That’s why I’m a wood worker! Great series

My adopted dad was a clockmaker for over 50 years. Some of the clocks he built from scratch and repaired were beyond impressive and beautiful.
I work on cuucoo clocks with my small hands. It’s a hobby and love I will never stop doing. It’s amazing how much heart goes into each and every one. They become a part of you literally.
It is not a superstition, when you love a clock and you or a loved one passes away, the clock stops at the time of passing. There is so much history in clocks of every kind.
Thank you for featuring this wonderful craft.

@@CraftsmansLegacy Ty! Even tho it’s challenging at times with certain rebuilds, it brings a lot of joy to my heart when they start to sing again or for the very first time. There are so many crafts that are dying out. It breaks my heart that the younger generations most of them just don’t care like we do.

@@jennylawson1980 i know this is an old post, but many people like me really appreciate what you do. If I wasn’t busy making knives I’d be learning clocks. I have always been fascinated by clockwork and the beauty of their design.

I got hooked on repairing clocks a few years ago and, I understand what he is talking about when, he talks about the factory made clocks. They work well but, can’t compare to the ones that were hand made. Now, I have this uncontrollable desire to build my own.He should sell plans. I would buy them.

Amazing artist and craftsman. It takes great patience and dedication to make and build a clock. To design and build one from scratch is another level... There are few people that do such as the modern world does not seem to value handworkmanship nor attention to detail.. Yes there are some people that still appreciate such mannificent pieces of craftsmanship. and artistry

I know exactly what you're talking about. I too feel compelled to do things with my hands. For about 40 years I've had a home metalworking shop, making things as diverse as a part for a washing machine to new valve guides for a friend's Ducati motorcycle to model stationary steam engines. A few years ago I got interested building guitars. A local luthier agreed to teach me how, and in the past 7 or 8 years I've made four acoustic guitars, three mountain dulcimers, a bass dulcimer, and a long banjo neck for a friend''s banjo. Oh yeah -- a couple of native American style wood flutes, and a very simple clock. And I wouldn't say I have great talent. It's just a matter of wading in and doing it, and not caring if you screw up. My shop is littered with "learning experiences."
