I'm heartened to see that so many others use the same word to describe this music as comes to my mind - timeless. I bought this album the year I graduated from college, 1990. This music always brings that feeling of new beginnings, of hopeful uncertainty, of excitement. I remember listening to this the day I put on the cap and gown and received my diploma. Funny how music can bring those feelings right back, just as strong even after so many years. Thanks, Steve. Your gift is a gift to us all.
and pure genius! i bought this the day it came out. i saw Steve play this particular tune only once in concert but it was, as can be expected, totally amazing.
That was a beautiful description of what this music means to you. It's always been a favorite of mine as well. Reminds me of when I was dating my first wife.
@@petardstamo814 Yea, some people think Justin Bieber music is art. I have coined a more accurate term for his music, and other contemporary pop music... FART💩
@@marcillioficino4663 I don't like the kind of music that bieber and similar artists produce (never been into that genre) but i have always thought that tastes are not discussable. You know from the italian saying "I gusti non si discutono". This is my viewpoint.
Ghostwind has always been my absolute favorite piece of music. Especially starting around 2:05 - I bought this album when it came out and this song just touches my heart.
Indeed Jon, they do. I agree, one if the best Guitar Albums of all time. Truly cemented Steve as a true Master. The album is a fresh and relevant today (2020) as it was when you purchased it in 1990!
Finest tune from an incredibly album by arguably one of the best 6 stringers in the world. The true genius lies in how he kept the guitar seamlessly with everything else in this.... simply beautiful.
The outro, especially when the orchestra-like string sounds fade in at 2:16 with the guitar sends chills down my spine of just how beautiful the arrangement is...
This is a great road trip album! During this song in particular, I was driving through eastern Pennsylvania in the fall at sunrise, with rolling light fog among the multicolored hills and trees. I couldn't imagine a better song to capture that majestic landscape. Every time I hear this song, all I can think of is that peaceful morning drive many years ago.
I know your post is 5 years old but I bought this disc when it came out and still listen to it a lot. BTW, I live in Eastern PA, Bethlehem PA to be exact.
I bought this album in 1990 and it just blew me sideways, to me one of if not the best and most wonderful instrumental albums of all eternity..dixie dregs..steve morse band..so much beautiful music he's written and performed..he should have been the master of the universe!!.. but there you go..i'm just so grateful for everything Steve has done musically..just AMAZING!!0😁😁💕
Steve Morse proves you you can be a fantastic guitarist and, write heartfelt music. The harmonic theme, is effective and engaging. Dave LaRue's bass is the perfect symmetry to balance out the sweetness of this music. Wonderful understated drumming from Van Romain, add's to the atmospheric effect this song needs. Great CD High Tension Wires.
I remember ordering this cd from BMG (cd club after the cassette tape club dissolved) Been my funeral song for 20 years. The ending of the song ...subtle build up is so strong then the soul rises.
Yes. And the melody is 1st person to the soul.i.e It's not a third party watching to soul go to heaven but its the soul itself ascending and watching itself enter heaven.
It's been a long time… This song was on a mix CD a friend of mine had, and I wasn't sure, but always suspected it was Morse. When I found High Tension Wires it was like finding a long lost friend, so glad he made this song...
Check out "Steve Morse Band - Live 1990; Full Concert" a must for SMB fans with professional quality audio/visual filmed at a smaller venue in Germany. Amazing that Steve wrote most of the Dixie Dregs (6 Grammy nominations) albums and some SMB albums while in his 20s. Besides being one of the most skilled guitarists to ever pick up the instrument his ability to compose music is often overlooked. He is one of only 3 guitarists to ever win "Best Overall Guitarist of the Year" award (rock, classical, jazz, prog rock, country, etc.) 5 years in a row! Retiring him from competition and placing him in the Gallery of Greats. Steve Howe (YES) and Eric Johnson are the others. He attended the U of Miami school of music (he was accepted without a high school diploma), which was the place to study in the early 70s - 2 of his classmates were Jaco Pastorius and Pat Metheney. John Petrucci cites Steve as his main influence. Steve is one of the nicest guys in the business and it's refreshing to hear him talk about his gratitude for his fans. I saw the Dregs several times in the late 70s/early 80s and it forever changed my taste in music. Back when he played his "Frankenstein" guitar (Telecaster body, Strat neck, Gibson frets, and custom switches and controls). Now in his 60s Steve has a repetitive wrist injury where the cartilage in his right wrist is worn away and it forced him to learn how to pick with a stiff wrist, instead of his standard anchored "rolling" style. 2017 is the last tour for Deep Purple and Steve will also be touring with the Dixie Dregs - see them if you can (most of the original band members) and recording a 3rd Flying Colors album. He still practices 4 to 6 hours a day, including days with a concert. After that type of devotion over closing in on 50 years, you can see why the wear and tear is physically catching up with him.
right on brother! I'm a drummer who grew up listening to the Dregs and Morse's guitar work. Absolutely incredible- him and Scott Henderson have the top places in in my book! Thanks for your input-Chris Ehrich
Thumbs down really though I feel sorry for the people that did that.do you have any idea this kind man is one of the best and nicest people you could ever meet.i feel sorry for you.

Good music is timeless. This is not a "guitar album", it's just pure music.

Exactly!
It is beautiful indeed but art is very subjective.

One of the best guitar albums of all time. Rolling stone doesn't even listvhim as too 100 guitarist. Do they live under a rock
Rolling stone doesn't even list him as too 100 guitarist - Rolling Stone is completely laughable

This brings tears to my eyes! What joy!
My most adorable guitarist! Steve Morse! The real guitar God! Thanks a lot for all your brilliant music you've been giving to us!
High Tension Wires' is one of those rare albums where every track's a gem.
so nostalgic !! yet no one .. no one .. but Steve Morse can sound and weave this magic of strings !

+Mike Miker Oh Mike you are not kidding on that string arrangement at the end is my favorite part. I get massive goose bumps over my whole body.

Absolutely Stunning! Every young "shred-guitar" player should listen to this every day before they practice.
Timeless music by the genius of Steve Morse. He stands alone in the world of guitar & music. No other guitarist can compare...
Blackmore can compare, Richie is cooler, nevertheless Steve is great
One of the few songs I've been listening to for over 20 years.
Me too.......and it goes till the day i die !!
This just reminds me so much of Florida holidays... driving down those long, open roads. x
The outro on this song evokes so much hope. It's incredible

This is the first Steve Morse album I owned, although I knew of him from the Dregs, and is still one of my favorite albums of all time.
heard this tune after 14 years ... its still the same ... vast, melodic and dream like. Some music is forever ...

Has the classic Steve Morse move to completely switch directions of the song somewhere after about halfway through (this case 2:00 mark)
E' dalla prima volta che ho sentito questo pezzo che a 2.12 mi commuovo. Sembra musica che si scrive da sola per celebrare la gloria del creato.

Who doesn't have this on their pod?! Cmon man. a fukin waste of stream costs.
Was there a glitch in this production? My CD I bought of this album was exactly the same - a hiccup right at the start of the song.
steve is god
Who disliked this? Why? I will never understand.
Second highest rated Morse album after Split Decision.

In a weird way, this reminds me of Pat Metheny's approach to music...it's all about the song, not the guitar player.
