I'm in the same boat, daughter is off to college, and we could use some more guest space. Been thinking about a Murphy bed, so this is great timing. Also, I'm in the "One in a Million" club, too. Started watching when he was under 10K subs, working in a tiny two car garage in the Twin Cities. I recently saw a meme of Derek's face with Bob Ross's hair. Something about painting happy little lightning cubes. HAHAHA!
VGG has somehow maintained a very consistent feel on his channel throughout it's whole history. I also found him way back when he was just in a 2 car garage, and it's been super fun to see all the projects he's tackled. A murphy bed has been great in that room - and even when she is here to visit, often my daughter will put the bed up so she can have more room in her bedroom for various projects. Thanks for watching!
Great question! Yes, you can certainly add some screws through the headboard if you wish - as long as you install it flush with the wall, or if there is a gap behind the head board be sure to fill it with a spacer so you don't warp/bend the headboard with screws. Also: the screws you add to the headboard will be visible, so keep that in mind. I've found that the bed is *rock solid* with it attached only at the upper crossmember as I showed in the video. Good luck!
"very hard" is such a subjective term 😂 - it certainly took some time, but to me was not difficult. If you have some experience doing some simple woodworking, I don't think you'll find this project too difficult. Just be patient with yourself and with the process. This is a pretty big project, and will likely take at least a few weekends to complete. Good luck!
It's hard to figure out how long it took as filming things always doubles or triples the time a project takes to complete... but I'd estimate needing maybe 3 full days (8 hours each) to complete this project.... so, 20-25ish hours maybe? Experienced carpenters would be faster, someone new to larger DIY projects like this may be slower. Good luck!
Building this bed was a pretty involved project, but we've been really happy with how it turned out. Have you ever built something like this?
Leaving a like for marketing tactics, that intro was adorable 😂
Very nice, I love your attention to detail. And how you show the whole process . Gives me the confidence to tackle something like that. Thank you 👍🏾
You can do it!

I dont usually comment at all, but this video was dope as hell! I really wanna make this now!
Thanks, Ace!
Great video and very informative, thanks for sharing 👍
Hey, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks!
Great Job! One question - is there any reason you can’t screw in the header board to studs for extra support instead of just the top?

Good job! Thanks for the step by step. Getting ready to build one myself. How many hours did it take?

Whaddya think? Do I have a future as a trumpet player?
NOPE, don't quit your day job!😂😂
Can I get away with exactly 80.25" floor to ceiling clearance?
Unfortunately, no. The minimum height the queen size frame requires is 87-1/8". The full and twin need a bit less, but still won't fit at 82-1/8".
