A friend of mine was actually at the event when Borat and Azamat ran in naked. Being British, he recognised Borat instantly and nearly died laughing. His table companions...not so much.
The village from the beginning of the movie is called Glod and it's in Romania (I'm romanian). When this movie came out the people from Glod hated the way they were portrayed.
I had a roomate that used to quote this movie non-stop. So, I bought him a Borat style man-kini for his birthday, as a gag gift. Unfortunately for me, he actually used to wear it!

I think that's likely why the character was chosen to be from central asia, to allow for pretty much any crazy idea to be adopted as being part of the culture, and no one would really be able to say "That's not a Kazach thing". As someone in the USA, it's not a place I've ever heard of anyone learning about unless actively trying to study the region, I confess I would likely know nothing about the region if my adopted little sister weren't Kyrgyz.
I have to give props to the Weatherman and driving instructor, for having NO idea what was happening to them and yet were still SO kind and hilarious. GREAT SUCCESS! P.S. Honestly, he's lucky he didn't get killed
the driver instructor going from "no I'm not your boyfriend!" to "well, sure, I'll be your boyfriend" in 0.2 seconds is one of my favorite parts of this movie

The scene I remember most from this movie was Borat showing a map of Kazakstan along with the other 3 nations below it. He described it this way: "Welcome to my country of Kazakstan: it locate between Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and asshole Uzbekistan".

There is an Ali G movie too, but that’s just a regular movie with actors and a script.

This movie is better than it has any right to be. Some bits are entirely staged like the attempted kidnapping of Pamela Anderson. Others are entirely real and unscripted like the rodeo scene. It can be hard to filter between the two which just further highlights the satirical genius of the film. Could've done without the naked wrestling match but otherwise I love this film!

She apparently thought it was a hilarious way for her to appear in the movie, but the reaction from security and stuff is genuine. The offensive kids in the RV sued when the movie came out, but as far as I remember nothing came of it since they would've had to sign legal papers to allow the movie to use their video and audio in the movie and if they hadn't there wouldn't really have been a reason to go past that point and begin filming.. Very cool that you saw it. If you want to watch a great movie with unbelievably colors, a happy story and that kind of thing, I'd recommend "Amelie" from 2001. It's in French, but it's what I watch when I try to get myself into a better mood.

They really thought he is filming a documentary for Kazakh tv. Kazakhstan was upset at first but the tourism grew so much because of this movie because people thought Kazakhstan is really like Borat spoke about so Kazakhstan kinda embraced it in the end because he is not really making fun of them he is making fun about how we in the West are ignorant about the rest of the world.
I live in Canada, and work with a man from Kazakhstan, who has only been here for a few months. He's easily the nicest person I've ever met in my life.

The village called Kazakhstan in the movie is located in Moldova, and in the scene with Pamela's abduction, she was warned about what was going to happen, so she knew what to expect, but her bodyguards were not warned, for realism. It was based in England and he would get all kinds of people and basically mock them on national tv. It was epic. Borat would be his "news" skit in the show, straight from Kazakhstan it was hilarious.
Then he made this movie a bit later and everyone laughed their asses off. Well all except the people he was basically mocking in the movie lol.

I think the village at the start is actually filmed in Romania. And they're gypies, of course.
In fact, these were all ordinary people who did not know that they were being filmed for a movie, of course they saw the camera, but no one told them what was happening. After the movie was released, they received a bunch of lawsuits, and only prostitute was a real actress. The village called Kazakhstan in the movie is located in Moldova, and in the scene with Pamela's abduction, she was warned about what was going to happen, so she knew what to expect, but her bodyguards were not warned, for realism. Sacha Baron Cohen is just incredible 😂
