    Security guard in Ohio here. Let me just say there's a ton of weirdness that comes with the job. Someone actually asked me if I'd choke out a raccoon for them once.

    I live in Ohio and back in 1997 I was hunting on some public land and got out further than I anticipated. It started getting dark so I decided to head back to the truck. The sun was setting and all of a sudden I got the most unnerving feeling I have ever experienced. After walking very briskly for about a half mile I decided to stop for a second and take a break. I stood there looking at the ground as I caught my breath and when looked up, down the path where I had just came from about 100 or so feet away was what looked like a person standing there staring at me. The figure had no cloths on but the skin was a greyish color with coal black eyes. I froze staring at it and all of a sudden it took off running toward me in a speed I have never seen anything run before and I ran at a speed I never thought I could either I was sore for months after from what had to be a shot of adrenaline to make me move so fast. I got into a clearing and tripped and when I got up I looked back and didn’t see anything so I kept running until I got to my truck. I had hunting gear including a shotgun with me to this day I have no idea what happened to it i apparently dropped everything at some point when I ran. For about a year afterwards I experienced insomnia, night terrors when I could sleep for an hour or so, and severe anxiety attacks over what I experienced. This was in 97 in the hocking hills area of ohio.

      I got chills when I read your comment,back in 1988or 89 me and my cousin were hunting and camping in hocking hills and although we did not see what it was as we were sitting around the campfire we started hearing a loud crunching noise back in the tree line coming in our direction we had a .243 bolt and a 270 bolt so first we started yelling we got guns but it kept getting closer and the crunching was getting louder so we opened fire and the crunching stopped but we were to scared to walk in there to investigate didn't sleep well that night

    • @ohiostate9156
      @ohiostate9156 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      @@SuperColonel91 I reported the incident since I lost my gun i figured I better at least report it so they had it on record. Went to the authorities and when I started telling the officer the story his demeanor changed all of sudden almost like someone that wanted to say something but couldn't. They even refused to accompany me out there to go looking for my weapon. They said they had to much going on. Which i don't know they may have but there was 4 officers in the back shooting the breeze about baseball and such. 5 years ago I had to travel through this very town for a conference in another part of the state and I would have much preferred going another way but I was in a company vehicle and every other way added about an hour to my trip which I am sure I would have been grilled over so I took this route. Was about at dusk and I rolled through town. Even years later just being in the same town seeing the same buildings that I seen that night gave me that feeling of absolute terror to the point to where I had to pull over to calm myself down. I lied on my way back home and said my GPS glitched and took me the longer route.

    • @robynsmith4164
      @robynsmith4164 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It really creeped me out too! I’ve been listening to Horror Narrations on TH-cam for about 6 years now and I RARELY ever get creeped out! When Stephen described the creature bounding straight at the MC on all fours with its crazy jaw hanging open and those eyes full of hatred staring directly into the MC’s soul, it got extremely creepy! I have an excellent imagination and usually see narrations like a movie in my head so I was extremely freaked out! Stephen (LHH) and Brett with (CGS) Creepy Ghost Stories, are my top two favorite horror narrators! I have a few others that I watch occasionally but I get tired of them quickly b/c Stephen and Brett make them sound pretty bad in comparison! Anyway, have a great day & I hope that you & your loved ones are staying happy and healthy!

      Complacency, it seems. He likely didn't make as many errors on the rest. He's an Operator, who survived Forgetting his round count twice, once out of anger, letting his emotions take control, moving from an effective weapon to shave a second on a draw vs reload, incomplete cover causing his loss of night vision, not having a back up for night vision.
      He got cocky, I'm sure that was his issue, based on the context. That's how I reconciled the lack of stated explanation.

    A pro-tip for aspiring writers out there - a professional like this would not have his safety on in a situation like this. Also, there is always a round in the chamber. No need for a spy to rack the slide going into a new room.

    • @iamV10010
      @iamV10010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So are you a professional writer or a professional spy?
      A writer would know that it's far more dynamic and interesting to show your character interacting with his weapon to set the scene and add to the suspense of any danger to possibly come. The easiest and most realistic way to show anyone interact with a gun right before a shootout is to check/turn off the safety and/or chamber a round. This is especially true in movies for the same reason. It's for looks and style. Most storytellers are willing to sacrifice the "realistic" details of having the safety off and no round chambered so the reader can experience the character doing them and share that characters resolve or apprehension. It makes more sense than leaving it out because "no professional would do it that way". Even an aspiring writer would come to this conclusion so, sadly, I don't have much confidence in your advice. Guess it's safe to say, you must be a professional spy?
      But would a spy be freely admitting to knowing all professionals walk into a room locked and loaded? As a professional, would giving unsolicited writing tips be important enough to blow your cover in a public comment section on TH-cam?? Doubtful. Therefore I believe I can safely conclude you are neither a spy or writer and probably shouldn't pretend you can do either one at all, let alone at a professional level.
      And what qualifies me to be coming to these conclusions you ask? Well..
      I'm a professional smartass of course. 😂

      @danielfenton1686 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@iamV10010That's a lot of words for someone who's fighting an uphill battle. The OP is right. Realism does matter and when writing about 'professional special operatives', you shouldn't skip these little details. OP is right. A professional would never have their safety still on in such a dangerous situation. The writers enthusiasm for illustrating such interactivity between the agent and his weaponry should not come before pissing off everyone who will pick up on this obviously flawed storytelling. The payoff is not worth it.

    • @bwestbrook90
      @bwestbrook90 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iamV10010 I for sure understand that it’s done for dramatic effect, but it also breaks the realism for someone who knows how someone in this situation would actually do their job.
      It’s no secret that if you’re carrying a gun it needs to be loaded and ready at all times because we know that the seconds matter in life and dead situations. It doesn’t mean I’m breaking some super secret spy code. There’s a saying in the military “you’re either quick or you’re dead”

    • @precisionbowx6984
      @precisionbowx6984 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a cadet for the army, I am told to always have your safety on until immediately before you shoot. This is heavily enforced. Though we do have a setting called “amber” where the gun is loaded, but a round isn’t chambered and the safety is on. Which is the normal setting for a weapon when starting a mission, and you are expected to leave the safety on until you either see the enemy or bullets start flying. Hope this helps!

    • @bwestbrook90
      @bwestbrook90 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@precisionbowx6984 there is no such rank as cadet in the military. Are you in an ROTC program? Also, it makes sense for idiot privates in training to have their safeties on, but a trained operator will not have their safety on.

      I had a staring contest with a tall set of eyes one night in my freshman year, the rest of whatever it was hidden by corn. Next morning there was a coyote skull in near perfect condition minus a tooth and the lower jaw, sat right where I had been standing. I had left it that staring contest with peaceful intentions and slept well that night. Still have the skull and never had any oddities since, personally.
