My family moved from Washington Illinois to Hendry county FL in 2003 when I was 9. Been here 21 years and I've grown to love it. No longer too hot for me and I love that it doesn't snow or freeze for months
Left Illinois a decade ago. Almost nothing I miss about that dumpster fire of a state. And I sincerely apologize to flaming dumpsters for comparing them to Illinois.
Living in Illinois for 98 percent of my life, I cannot wait to leave. Being here in Chicago, I feel stuck. I feel depressed, frustrated, exhausted, and downright pissed off most days. I can't wait to say goodbye to this state. I just need a remote job that I can take to another state. If you know of any jobs that I can take to Washington or Alaska or Canada, please let me know.
Insurance companies hire remote workers for customer service jobs, like United Health Care and Aetna. I recently saw a post from State Farm also. Medical coding positions can also be done remotely. That's what I do, and you can learn online through the AAPC at your own pace.
You can do it, I’ve done it myself and been in the same mental space as you. Just have a solid plan. I decided to move to Wisconsin and I’m more happy here.
I lived in Chicagoland most of my life, I left because the cost of living. The rent is too high and I suspect it is because of the taxes. No matter where you go unless you leave to Southern or Central Illinois. People will tell me that’s there’s nothing in Wisconsin but I’m living comfortably, I have my own place and I don’t have to fight through traffic.
I have lived in Illinois since 1994. I moved to Central Illinois from the east coast, Pennsylvania. This place has been nothing but a pain in my ass. From the nasty attitudes of the people to the job opportunities, or should I say the lack thereof (at for certain people anyway). This is place sucks!
When the mainstay of Chicago, namely manufacturing, got offshored to cheaper, pennies-on-the-dollar labor areas of the world, that was the beginning of the end for Illinois... Now, there's only mostly low-paying jobs (you have to know someone whom knows someone to get anything that pays), high taxes, and high crime & gangs wherever you go... Whom wants any of that?
I left over 30 years ago for job opportunities. Several relatives talk about moving to Missouri because of taxes but stay because of family. All of my close family left several years ago for all the reasons listed.
Taxes are high in Illinois because it is one of the big 4 donor state along CA, NJ and NY. All adjoining states are taker states who get back every $1.00 they send to the federal government and get more $pennies on the $1.00. Illinois gets back -$1.00 for ever $1.00 say $0.90 cents. Missouri, Iowa, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc hawk being low tax states. Illinois is paying their "utilities" allowing them to be low tax.
I'm planning on leaving IL for a few reasons. Politics is the first. There has been a shift from protecting law abiding citizens to protecting criminals. We don't need to be in the woke race with Commyfornia and New York to moral and financial bankruptcy. Taxes is a close second. My property taxes went up 18% this year after 8% last year, and that's on top of the daily taxes on literally everything which leads to the question asked in the video which is 'where are the taxes going?' That also taps into corruption as being another reason. Finally, I want to live in a state that still offers homeowners freedom on their own property. IL has found a way to require permits "tax" for any kind of renovation. A while back I was buying supplies to re-shingle my house and garage and storing the supplies in a shed until I was ready to start the project. While speaking with a city worker, I was told storing said supplies in said shed was against the law or against an ordinance. I've also been fined by the city for cancelling my garbage pickup because I was using a dumpster at work which was barely being used and my boss was happy that someone was using it.
I've lived in Illinois my whole life. I never liked it here. Winters are horrible, taxes are high, cost of living is high, and so many speed cameras and red light cameras. The apartment I rented 5 years ago for $850 is now going for $1400. I know this stuff happens in other states too, but Illinois is just not worth it. My whole family have moved out of this state and many of my friends have as well. I just haven't had the money to move out, but now I'm looking to move somewhere else soon. Hopefully there's somewhere scenic that doesn't break the bank.
Springfield is the hog trough in Illinois to feed the Chicago hog. Living in way southern Illinois. The people are fantastic, area is great. I lived in the Chicago suburbs for 28 years and been down here for six and now I feel alive and well.
Illinois' roads suck because the exact same spots are cut out and replaced year after year. People who live outside the Chicago metro area have no voice in elections. Yes I'm for this skidmark of a state.
This summer Texas had 4 months of 100 F days - a normal summer here. A summer water bill here might be like the August a/c cost in the Midwest, and car insurance is getting to look like my mortgsge did 20 yesrs ago - millions of uninsured drivers - been hit twice by them in two years. I'm okay with Illinois weather- if I have a well constructed home as I can travel Jan thru March - when the Rio Grande Valley has nice weather. Except for the California coast most states have issues with the weather. Florida is like a steam bath. The North Carolina mountains have nice weather for me, but Charlotte is also very humid and unfortunately Beautiful Asheville has been taken over by politics of the likes of Chicago. Be careful about moving for weather unless you have already visited year round! Move to Atlanta with another 5 million expected by 2050? Nope! This big issue with Illinois is the governor and legislature is not serious about paying down the state debt. If voters gave them an inch they would tax breathing and still not pay down the state debt. The party in power is beholden to labor unions for votes. I like the Central Illinois culture and moderate housing prices - compared to Chicago counties. Live close to MO or Iowa border for lower gasoline costs. The Peoria area has among the best house prices in the U.S., but Caterpillar HQ moved to Texas and I think John Deere is next. The Illinois corporate tax is 9.5 percent, Texas has zero. But, wowza ! The Texas summer scorches and you can't legally water stuff. Is it worth a $300 monthky water bill to grow a few tomatoes? And your lawn will feel like walking on Brillo pads.
We must live in the same county haha I have considered leaving many times generally my family and friends are the reason I do not. All six of the reasons you named are likely the reasons I would choose to leave if I do
all I can say if youre leaving a state because of its crappy political climate, make sure the votes youve casted do not reflect what caused your state to be crappy. I live in Florida and I left because of weather and a long time before the political climate. However, in the years that have passed, I am elated that I politically made the right move.
I’m leaving. I no longer wish to live in a communist state. I no longer wish to pay an enormous tax burden to support the sanctuary city for the American Communist Party Of Crime. I want to move to a state where Americans are not treated as second class citizens. I plan to leave Illinois, after living here for seventy-four years, just as soon as it becomes possible, PERIOD!
Chicago inside of Cook County and the surrounding border counties actually contribute more funds to the state treasury than they get back. So yes, please let us be our own state. Then watch how fast the remaining Red Republican portion turns to Federal dollars to help them stay solvent. I agree Chicago has its persistent problems but to cast it off on its own is foolish. Chicago is an economic engine with many different industries driving a vibrant tax base.
and they are leaving. taking their overtaxed ass elsewhere. but whatever ya do don't change anything it's been doing great for the last 100 years. I hear amo sales are up.
@@jackfunk5765 I don't look at it as being overtaxed. Opposite in fact, the rest are under taxed. High density residents want schools, hospitals, roads, water & sewage, police and fire. That doesn't come cheap. But hey, if one wants to live out in the countryside where their nearest neighbor is a mile away, have at it. Just don't expect much from your government.
Your first MISTAKE, Exodus means MASS Exit so you don't need to add mass before Exodus because now you are saying mass mass exit. Now I'll leave without viewing because you've ruined it for me.

it cost to much to live here
Thanks!
Thanks for your support! I appreciate it!
Get me out of this God forsaken hellhole!
I have applied for jobs in Fargo if it meant getting myself out of Illinois.
I'm with you!
I grew up in vermilion county, left in '07 as the danville economic development council drove out manufacturing...
I left forty years ago for better job
I left over 17 years ago, and I'll NEVER move back!
Left Illinois a decade ago. Almost nothing I miss about that dumpster fire of a state.
And I sincerely apologize to flaming dumpsters for comparing them to Illinois.
No jobs since 1989 !!!
I’m leaving Illinois. Our tax dollars go to Chicago no matter where you live. Funny how Chicago complains yet they get what they want.

Also the gun laws suck.
So nothing in Illinois has changed since I achieved escape velocity in 1983. What a surprise 😂
The current Governor should be in Prison. But an elite
I grew up in Illinois and had hoped to retire in my home town after my career in the military. No way would I go back there.

9 months of cold weather have to leave the state to get food gas and essential supplies electricity is expensive gas is expensive taxes are expensive.

Re Corruption: the saying is "Illinois is the only state in the country where its license plates are made by its ex governors"!
There is no pride in this state like texas

And gonna continue leaving crooked Illinois
How is Galesburg not on any of these list
It is. I have it in one of the two videos I have of places not to move to in Illinois.
Maybe you will be accused not doing anything! If they can’t find anything else to accuse you of. 😮

The rural areas of Illinois dominated Illinois for 170+ years. They have a sense of entitlement and not coincidentally are very white.
