@@bosco_c6431 there is one more reason and I believe it's more significant. Writing in kanji is shorter, than in kana. In old days writing material (I hope I use right words) was not that cheap. I remember how my native language (Russian) was written in old manuscripts. For instance, instead of Богородица (lit. the Mother of God) in the Bible wrote Б҃ца. And it's just one of the tricks used to save precious space.
@@RanmaruRei yes,as the Japanese borrow kanji, they speak kanji in their language, which the advantage of original kanji , one character has one syllable only has disappeared , in Japanese spoken Japanese ,1 character might have 1 or even 3 syllables for one kanji, if they directly write in hiragana or katakana, the sentence will be so long
I've been finding the Japanese handwriting recognition input method very useful. It's actually really useful for learning how to read and write without an actual teacher, since you can usually tell when you've written so poorly that you've got the wrong character! ありがとう!
I started learning Japanese a few days back and the Google keyboard is really good too, especially for beginners because it has a variation for Japanese where you can actually draw the letter and it's closest match is shown. Typing is slow, but it's great for practice.

Funny enough, I actually discovered this myself when I installed Japanese input on my smartphone over Christmas vacation. At first I was confused, but then I discovered the swipe system and my mind was blown. Me trying to write こんにちは pretty much looked like you at 4:40. xD
My Japanese wife uses a handwriting recognition 'keyboard' on her iPhone. I think she can write kanji directly with her finger but she still has to then pick the correct one from a list.
For inputting uncommon kanji, most modern smartphones allow you to draw the full kanji with your finger over the whole screen. You just need to add it to your keyboard in the settings. You do need to understand the basic principles of stroke order for it to work though.
When I first started I was using the romanji keyboard, but I found the 12-key kana one to be better, it is a bit annoying as it doesn't have a dedicated katakana mode so it's sometimes a pain if it doesn't show up in the possible options above it. It does fairly well for Kanji, provided you know which one you need
Is it common to type a different pronunciation from the one the context needs just so the desired kanji can be found faster? So long as it's normal words, I reckon there isn't really a need for that; but for some names that have very uncommon pronunciations (to my knowledge, sometimes that pronunciation can even be region specific), it seems convenient to go for the most common pronunciation just so you can find that kanji.
@@soseikiharagatatsu7859 I want to live in japan too but when you dig more in Japan streets and stuff it’s really dangerous , unsafe and not the same as I thought it was...

This is how we, japanese learners, type either lol. Kanjis already appear above the keyboard in that little bar however tho, sometimes a bit confusing when you don't know the kanji but you wanna find it by guessing among 4728489347 relevant kanji
@@soseikiharagatatsu7859 there’s about 50,000 kanji in Japanese language but only about 2000 is commonly known to most native speakers. Same as with English there’s so many words out there but we tend to only speak the most commonly known words in a conversation.
@@soseikiharagatatsu7859 Nah man there is more, but it's not the only genuine issue to be engulfed within kanjis during memorizing them. There are multiple pronunciations you are supposed to know, meaning that the kanji on its own might mean nothing to you clause wise 降る(furu) (to verb of falling for rain) 降りる(oriru) (to get off) but "降" that guy means nothing to me when i see it in context
I do it too. Bc that method is the most common, that doesn't mean that is the "correct one" or other forms are bad. While you can write correctly in that keyboard, is okay I guess
I think the only annoying thing about that keyboard is you can't make typos when writing Japanese, whereas with the hiragana keyboard it doesn't seem to have that problem. That being said, use whichever you are most comfortable with
Suggestion is way better on the kana keyboard (words / kanji / people or places names), and typing words in katakana that do not "exist" in Japanese (such as shops, artists or whatever names) is a pain on romaji keyboard.

I love how these videos are both educational and genuinely funny at the same time.
4:17 "And you want to use google translate to translate english into shitty- *LESS THEN PERFECT JAPANESE* " XDXDD
Funny enough, I actually discovered this myself when I installed Japanese input on my smartphone over Christmas vacation. At first I was confused, but then I discovered the swipe system and my mind was blown. Me trying to write こんにちは pretty much looked like you at 4:40. xD
I’m so excited to start learning Japanese from you!!
My Japanese wife uses a handwriting recognition 'keyboard' on her iPhone. I think she can write kanji directly with her finger but she still has to then pick the correct one from a list.
5:48 lmaoo literally the previous vid I just watched was your "How Levi Speaks" one, so this was a nice surprise

I actually installed Japanese on my phone keyboard as I'm learning Japanese, and I had no idea about the swipe method. That's so cool!

I am so interested in Japanese culture

Hey, can't say I'm disappointed but the logic works lmao
5:46 is so perfect
This is how we, japanese learners, type either lol. Kanjis already appear above the keyboard in that little bar however tho, sometimes a bit confusing when you don't know the kanji but you wanna find it by guessing among 4728489347 relevant kanji
I thought kanji only has 2000+ kanji
@@soseikiharagatatsu7859 there’s about 50,000 kanji in Japanese language but only about 2000 is commonly known to most native speakers. Same as with English there’s so many words out there but we tend to only speak the most commonly known words in a conversation.
@@mandyajel seriously a 50,000 kanji that just makes it more hard
@@smugtomato5972 sometimes I just wish the china didn't influence the Japanese to do the Chinese characters
0:20, so no one is going to mention this?
omg i’ve been tapping the letters all this time!! thank you so much. 😭😭🙏

I use the romaji keyboard when typing in Japanese, is that bad?
I do it too. Bc that method is the most common, that doesn't mean that is the "correct one" or other forms are bad. While you can write correctly in that keyboard, is okay I guess
Nope my first Japanese friend also used that type of keyboard
I think the only annoying thing about that keyboard is you can't make typos when writing Japanese, whereas with the hiragana keyboard it doesn't seem to have that problem. That being said, use whichever you are most comfortable with
Suggestion is way better on the kana keyboard (words / kanji / people or places names), and typing words in katakana that do not "exist" in Japanese (such as shops, artists or whatever names) is a pain on romaji keyboard.
yes its easier for me so why not
Arigatoo Yuta. The video helped me a lot.
