    Adam - kudos again on an amazing achievement and listening to the recap and lessons learned, even more respect that you got as far as you did. The sickness and GI issues is probably the one issue (short of serious injury) that is the most debilitating for me in a 100-miler, and one that I need to improve before my April race. Thanks for the insightful video!

    Great recap and learnings from such a tough challenge! Always hard to take these on without other competitors, crew or support so well done! I'm struggling in my 3rd week in running 400miles. Last week, as you say was freezing! Really underestimated the weather and it's toll on the body. Keep the great videos coming and all the best!

      Jeez I missed the real cold and snow. 400 miles will take some doing. Keep going small chunks and you’ll get there. 👍👍👍

    Great video, Adam. I finished my first 50 km this weekend. Not quite to plan but did it in the time I wanted. Lots of learnings, just like you. And I want to do another one!

    Great summary Adam , I think one thing we forget is we have other commitments, work , a business to run , partners and family and its not always easy to completely switch off from everyday stuff , i know Iv maybe been doing a long run on a Sunday and I’m thinking about what the next week will bring , with what’s going on this can be even more of a worry . Awesome effort , I just don’t how you guys film and run and talk 👍👍

    • @ultrarunneradam
      @ultrarunneradam  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s so true and we do forget. Having several weeks off running leaves me time in the evening and the weekends. Certainly shows how much time this training takes up and the stress on my wife. Thanks for your support!

    I get the bruising feeling on my ribs and I think it’s the white pointy ends of my Salomon soft flasks. I find the flasks with the flat seals are harder to get in and out but don’t hurt. Thanks for the tips and information.

    • @ultrarunneradam
      @ultrarunneradam  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’ve had this before with other packs - maybe just the fact we’ve been out for so long. The bottles do bounce so that could be it. A common complaint of the vest.

  • @DanRuns
    @DanRuns 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really informative. I’m already trying to get my NDW50 race day plan in order. I’m planning to have Spring Energy, Tailwind (naked flavour) and real food on board. I have had bruising from the strap on my vest but it’s sporadic so I can’t figure out exactly what’s going on

    • @ultrarunneradam
      @ultrarunneradam  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bruising is prob from lack of use maybe? The body would get used to it after a while. Have your tried the spring apple ginger electrolyte mix - punchy taste 👅

    • @DanRuns
      @DanRuns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ultrarunneradam I haven't actually tried the Spring Energy mix as I don't believe it's vegan (unless i'm mistaken). 50% of the time, no issue with the vest but it can be an irritant!

    • @ultrarunneradam

  • @johnjames9602
    @johnjames9602 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    you did extremely well for a solo challenge, you were lucky with the weather as it was horrific in cornwall on the Arc weekend! Are you using the hard bottom bottles in the front of your pack? they gave me bruises under the ribs so switched to the soft bottom ones again

    • @ultrarunneradam
      @ultrarunneradam  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using soft flasks with soft bottom unfortunately. When I did MDS your body got used to this type of thing so running with my pack more may help. Thanks for the advice though - yeah I’m pretty glad I didn’t habit to deal with sea 🌊

  • @DustinHallUltraRunner
    @DustinHallUltraRunner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the same issue with an HR strap under a vest. - If you figure this out let me know.
    Do you think you would use the Olympus 4 in a dry race?

    • @ultrarunneradam
      @ultrarunneradam  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best solution is the electroden-gel for ecg. Works well but is a hassle each time. The Olympus 4 def for dry races as well as muddy. I’ve kinda gone off them though due to weight. Prefer a lighter shoe. What do you think? Have you got a pair?

    • @outofoffice4757
      @outofoffice4757 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not have a pair. Looking for a max cushion shoe and speed goats just done work for me. They are to narrow.

    If you are going to do another run and plan a new route, don't forget how much the undulation of the course broke up your rhythm. You seem to have worked out exactly what you need to do. I'll look forward to the video.
