    This is silly Dr. Jones ... I had a horrible (really horrible) GYN experience about 10 years ago ... I happened upon your videos and watched a few of them . My level of apprehension decreased .. I had a full exam yesterday .. Thanks ! What you are doing with these videos makes a big difference ... I am grateful . Thank You Dr. Jones 😊

      Seriously! These vids should be shown to every girl in the country, probably during sex ed. We should make it much more comprehensive, and spend a lot more time educating our kids on their own bodies. I wish everyone could see all of her videos, honestly even the boys should watch these. It's so important that people are prepared for what they'll face as parents, and would improve the quality of life for all of the next generations, having parents who were well educated on child rearing

      I'm so glad you caught it early! Really, truly happy for you. When people aren't properly educated on their reproductive health, the outcomes are always significantly worse. We really need to put more focus on this in schools, and teach people how important it is to take good care of your body.

      A D.O. stands for Doctor Of Osteopathic Medicine. There are actually fewer Osteopathic Medical Schools in the USA than there are M.D. (Doctorate Of Medicine) Medical Schools. Both teach pretty much the exact same subjects and material. D.O.’s in my experience are more widely accepted in the Midwest than on the coasts. D.O.’s can be accepted into the same Residency and Fellowship programs as M.D.’s. Really the only difference between the two is that D.O. programs spend more time (close to 400 hours worth) studying techniques on Muscular Skeletal Manipulation.

    Something funny. I Nanny for an Obgyn. The youngest is 4. He knows Mommy is a Doctor and " gets babies out of the mommies". So we were driving and he asked," Did Mommy swallow me?". I first thought he said, " swaddle ". I told him, " Well she swaddled you in blankets when you were tiny". He said, " No swallow. In her throat. " i told him no. He said, " Well how did I get in her tummy?". Myself and employer are both Christian. I had to think quickly. I said," God made you and placed you in mommy. " He said," in the belly?". I said," Well, the womb." He thought a minute and said, " That is very nice of God! I am glad Mommy didn't swallow me in her throat!". Lol

      Marie-Soleil Dobie Thank you for answering! I really wish The US was more like Canada and Europe. Maternity leave is a legal right here (even paternity leave getting more recognition), but it is generally viewed as a hindrance to ever have to devote attention to child-rearing while also having a busy career. We are often so obsessed with work, work, work, anything less can be seen as a weakness. It really sucks some of the stereotypes we have!

    Sleep training. Honestly, the best thing ever. It is hard on both the parent and the child, yes but it's only a few days. The sleep training method I used with my son is to lay them down when they are sleepy, not asleep. Do your good night routine ( needs to remain the same no matter how many times you do it.) This will help your child program their brain to know it's time to go to sleep. Leave the room, they will cry and throw fits. Start with 2 minutes, let them cry for 2 minutes. If they are in serious distress ( not breathing correctly, hurting themselves, ect) re-enter their room and calm them before the 2 minutes are over but try to let the whole 2 minutes go by. If they are still crying at the end of 2 minutes, go in calm them and replace them in bed. Now the time doubles to 4 minutes. Continue adding time till they are calm and asleep.
    The first time I did this with my son it took over 2 hours, but then the next day it was only half an hour, the next day only 10 minutes. 3 days all together to get him sleep trained. Not every child will be easy and it gets harder the older they get but if you stick it out within a week they will be sleep trained. It is work, it ishard, it is heartbreaking, yes. But your body and mind will than you. My son has been sleeping through the night, no wakeups for almost 2 years and he is just barely 2.5 years old. It's fantastic.
    They do have sleep regressions, he did too. You just start sleep training from scratch, a day or two and they are right back on track.
    I had to be proactive with sleep training bc I have Epstein-Barr and it was hell on my body to be up all night. It really changed my life when we did sleep training to help.

    • @acrylicgodoy
      @acrylicgodoy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree!! The sleep-training method works like a charm! I live in Chile, and most parents co-sleep with their kids until they are 6-9 years old sometimes. I feel extremely uncomfortable every time I hear a story like that, and share the three day training method whenever I can. I used it on my oldest daughter, and it worked like magic

    • @strangekat2840
      @strangekat2840 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My kid hated it and it didn't work. She'd get really distressed, upset and she'd wake up anyway. It didn't help. It's not a panacea for everyone.

    • @thinkbig5438
      @thinkbig5438 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      „Works“ is arguable. Babies still have higher stress levels (hormones) AFTER they stopped crying. They just look peaceful. Here in Germany child protection organizations advice not to do it. Also: it‘s been invented to protect kids from parents that couldn’t cope anymore and were in danger of getting physically harmed. Even the inventor of this method said in an interview that it was meant for a specific target group and at least 12 months old kids and the widespread use has never been intended. Most parents should be able to find other forms of help. (Family support, friends, etc.) Many psychologists advice against it for fear of breaking the bond between child and parents, especially before the first birthday.

    • @Bold-Math
      @Bold-Math 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thinkbig5438 I agree with you. Hearing my children crying for even 15 minutes is an agony, I cannot imagine hearing them crying for 2 hours. Poor babies. It totally makes sense that it breaks the bond between parent and child. A child's cry is as serious as it sounds. Just because the babies are silent after crying for 2 hours it does not mean they are calm. The last time I had a long cry it took me days to recover. Imagine what happens to a baby.

    Kids sleep secrets... this is what has worked for me and I have 4 kids (13, 9, 5 and 3) who all slept through the night by 4-5 months old.. I'm talking 7pm-7am 12 hour nights and great naps and still are great sleepers.
    1) Blackout curtains
    2) White noise machine
    3) As an infant, use a black light in the bedroom. I know it sounds weird but hear me out. It's enough light to see by for nighttime diaper changes and nursing, but soft and keeps that "night" impression.
    4) No TV at night. Period. I know it's hard when you're up every 2-3 hours to nurse or feed the baby. But resist the temptation. It's too stimulating. Keep it quiet and dark.
    5) Feed and put back down to sleep
    6) Stick to a schedule. I know it's hard. But it's very important.
    How can they learn night vs. day if you're turning on the lights and TV when it's supposed to be sleep time.

      @Rebster I guess it depends on the kid. Mine don't have trouble sleeping other places that aren't completely dark but it helps during naptime at home for sure. Especially when establishing a routine. Once the routine is established then I find you can relax a bit on the environment.

      Do as much research as you can. There was not a lot of info available when I was diagnosed 20 yrs ago (and the internet sucked), so apart from using BC there were no other medically accepted treatment options. I had to push my OB/gyn to let me try metformin. Sadly it only worked briefly. My current housemate is in her 20s and is having a lot of success with an anti-inflammatory diet. Still, do your own research, be your own best advocate, and be willing to make big life changes to better your health.
      I'm 45 and last week I had a full hysterectomy, including both ovaries, because of really huge cysts on both ovaries and advanced adenomyosis of the uterus. I've known for years this was a likely outcome for my situation.
      If I could tell my younger self 1 thing it would be, Freeze your eggs! Egg health deteriorates with age, and seem to go faster with PCOS. If there are any delays or complications to your ability to get pregnant if you had your eggs you would have more options. I wish I had. I've never had children and can't now. I talked with a fertility specialist years ago but my egg/uterus health was already too far gone. So, Freeze your eggs. ❤

    • @princesslulu5795
      @princesslulu5795 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carollynn K I have pcos so I completely understand a lot of what you’re saying. I also have medical issues and family history of blood clots so many hormonal contraceptives are not possible for me, plus I could not deal with the havoc they wreak on my body. I also refuse to do iud or implant because the thought of someone shoving something into my cervix or cutting me open like that is just too much. I’d rather the off chance of getting pregnant naturally and having a baby than do that. I’ve always wanted kids and even though my current situation is far from ideal I am well versed in government assistance options in my area as well as the many charities that can offer assistance with basically anything. Basically I know it would not be the end of the world and I wouldn’t be alone, there are people who can and will help if needed.

    • @princesslulu5795
      @princesslulu5795 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carollynn K my only thing is I cannot afford the exorbitant costs of prepping, harvesting, and storing eggs or embryos. I’m at the point where if I cannot conceive naturally the most I’ll probably do is try some medications and iui or something and if those don’t work adopt. My state and most agencies will reimburse adoptive families for legal stuff, home studies etc if they agree to adopt a child from foster care.

Two are graduateing and talking about college. It's not more about you and more about instilling in them the desire and drive to be more than you. I would love to see you do a collab with a midwife. I LOVE you and your channel, but I did have a home birth with a midwife. Granted, I live in Alberta, Canada where the midwives are highly educated and highly regulated. I know that's not the case everywhere in the US, but the statistics here on home birth are actually really great. I hate the stigma in the birth world where it's OBs vs. Midwives and it seems like as a mom, you're expected to pick a side and you're very judged whatever you do. I think there is a place for midwives in low risk pregnancy and birth and absolutely a place for OBs as well. I wish we could see more teamwork in the industry and collaboration in general ❤️

    As a professional mom (lawyer here) I love being able to do both (be a mom and be a lawyer) but I wish I could spend more time at home with my kiddo. Thankfully my husband gets to stay home with our youngest and that is awesome for us. Also, I think there is no secret to getting kids to sleep. My oldest has always been an amazing sleeper (she literally started sleeping through the night at 2 months old - scared the bejeezus out of me -- and she never stopped sleeping through the night). For the most part our baby is an okay sleeper -- she hates to nap and generally falls asleep around the same time every night. She didn't start sleeping through the night (more than 4 hours at a time) until she was about 10 months. She sleeps through the night now, but hates sleeping by herself. I have no answers but I LOVE your videos!

    So secrets to success at bedtime 😴
    I use a great bedtime routine since birth
    So here goes
    1, bath/wash - doesn't need to be anything major but a bit of calm water play with rubber ducks or robo fish is great for tots
    2, story/song- place baby or child in bed and either make up Ur own story to a picture book or read a fav of thiers or for baby's singing can work wonders
    3, kiss and hugs- in thier bed if using night lights put them on say goodnight and leave (not always easy) if very fussy sit down near bed facing away if they get out put back but don't talk to them
    Hope this is helpful x

    I so agree with your answers about pregnancy while working ( over being at home with your kids) - you have to take each day as it comes and do your best, but if you are exhausted- rest and realize the world will not end if the laundry is not done that day or if you aren’t the most patient teacher in your case. You are doing great balancing the different aspects of your life and I am loving your videos - so much knowledge and practical advice. As far as getting kids to sleep - I have 3 kids - now adults - and I was lucky because they were great sleepers for the most part - I had a bedtime routine - diner, bath, read them a story in my bed, then they went to their bed, kiss goodnight, shut door. Now I had one who would get up in the middle of the night and crawl in bed with me and I would wake up in the morning with him snuggled next to me. Very sweet, but it got to be a little much over time so I had to lock the door. Then he just went back to his bed. The big thing is to try to stay calm when they get up at night and make it really boring. Just calmly put them back in bed. No comforting, no fun, no complaining- just lets get back in bed, kiss, night night. Hope this helps. If not as they get older and move more and have more structure in their lives ( like school), they will sleep longer and when they are teenagers you will have the opposite problem of trying to wake them up in the morning- and college age is like living with vampires ( up all night - sleep all day). Each age has its challenges and charms. Sorry if this is too long. Best to you

    I never understood the hate some people have for parents who stay home for a while or long term. My stance is the parents/legal guardians who care for this child decide based on what makes them happy and what they feel is best for the child(ren). My mom became a stay at home mom when she got pregnant with me and it worked out well. Sometimes, particularly if there are multiple children, very young children, and/or with special needs having one parent stay home (or work part time or from home) mean the kids who need extra attention get it. It means that parent is more able to be involved with the kids school and other activities. But working is also good because some people do better having something outside of home going on. If parents aren’t home immediately every day when say ages 13-18 get there, it can be a good way to teach kids responsibility, self reliance, etc that they’ll need when they are on their own. There’s benefits and drawbacks to all options here and parents just have to do what is best for them and their children. Unless the parent is literally actively endangering the child (ie making them stay outside in the cold for hours because they’re not home; leaving toddlers alone in house etc) other people don’t have any right to say anything about it and should butt out

    I love your answer about being a stay at home mom vs. working mom. My aunt was a stay at home mom from 1991 until 2003. She then went back to school and is a rock star RN! She said she wanted to stay home with her kids until they were both in school full time and until she felt it was the right time for the whole family. She'll be the first to tell you that going back was intimidating but that she wouldn't have it any other way because she got the best of both worlds.

    Lavender oil diffuser or lavender pillow spray will help with sleep and calmness. When I was in elementary school I would go with a small group of kids to another class for reading composition. One day the teacher commented how unusually quit we all were and attributed it to the new lavender oil diffuser. She heard about lavender's calming affect but she wasn't sure if it would work or not. Also dimming light and filtering blue light for an hour before bed time is helpful to sleepers of all ages.

    Hmm? Was reminded of this saying “life is what happens when you are sitting around planing for the future”. Things change, life changes, and every day we learn something new. It’s how we improve, evolve, get better.
    You do what is best for you and your family. People need to learn to take care of themselves and their family and stop criticizing others for taking care of themselves and their own families.

    Regarding the question about leaving a career to stay home, I went from being a corporate lawyer to a SAHM. I’ll be out of the profession eight+ years by the time my youngest starts pre-K (if we’re done having kids now; it’ll be longer if we’re not). I feel like my qualifications and experience will be irrelevant if/when I go back. But 100+ hours per week wasn’t compatible with family life. I chose family over career. I’ll either re-train or do something else. It’s somewhat hard if I think about how long I studied and worked to build my career but my kids mean more 🤷‍♀️

    Sleep secret: all sleep is good sleep. If they are in your bed or on the floor or on the couch or in the recliner... who cares? They’re sleeping! Go with it. My kids are 18 and 16 and they sleep just fine in their own beds even though they slept wherever they wanted (usually with me) when they were little. These years go by fast and they won’t want to snuggle with you forever.

    I have extreme fatigue through out my pregnancies. I am now in my third trimester with my third pregnancy and feel drained even after a full nights sleep. I realize there is not much I can do to fix it but just to take it day by day until it goes away, but that doesnt take away the mom guilt for not being the most interactive I can be and also feeling like a bad wife and everything else i cant do. Your answer to the last question actually made me feel so much better. Just knowing someone else experienced it too helps me relax and come to terms with the idea that it's not forever and soon I'll have my energy back and be able to do all the things again. I'm not a mom but as a nanny for over 20 years my best sleep advice is to make sure kids get plenty outdoor time running around. Balanced meals are also a big help but I realize that can be very controversial issue and this does not mean you can never go through McDonald's lol. The last thing that I would put in is a nighttime routine.
    Yes I'm aware this is two years later and it is not 100% effective but it definitely works more often than it doesn't if that makes any sense.

    I think fatigue is a major indicator anything is wrong at all (even if it is just because you're pregnant). It's how I knew I had coronavirus. I had been having trouble sleeping and that night I had been able to get to sleep and get enough, I woke up feeling so much better. My boyfriend had woken up very groggy, which I was a bit suspicious of. When I went to work I was doing my normal tasks easily compared to sleep deprived me for a few hours and then suddenly fatigue began to overcome me and this feeling something was wrong and I needed to rest set in. I knew something was wrong, and shortness of breath quickly followed. I wanted to sit down so bad, so I took my break when it came in like 10 minutes and decided to work out how to tell her I needed to go home without freaking everybody out, then I sat by myself wearing my uncomfortable mask and went home. I felt so awful from that first moment. I knew before I got the results what it would be.
    Luckily I follow the mask requirements as much as I can and I work in an isolated position, I wash my hands often because of cold and flu season as well; I've had the flu like three times this year because I had not had it more than a few times in 10 years and all these people come in and touch my hands. They disinfected after I left.

I guess it's a comedy and not meant to be realistic, but I feel like they missed an opportunity there. Plus Mindy was always the only female OB GYN in her practice and that puzzled me. Omg imagine a miranda sings video where mama doctor jones tries to teach her where babies come from or something. Or what MDJ does in her job being explained to Miranda Sings

  • @joubess
    @joubess 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    MDJ, I agree that you have to pick your battles or you'll be fighting and angry all the time. Nobody needs that, or wants it. It's ok to need help and to depend on others, especially dads. You are one person and you just cannot do everything yourself. When you're exhausted focusing on what has to be done is the only sane solution and letting the other things be taken over by family and friends is the right thing to do. I wish more moms would let the not so important stuff hit the back burner or be delegated when they just can't do everything.
    Child care is expensive, you're right, mortgage expensive.
    There is no secret to sleep. Some kids sleep well and some don't. I have no clue why or how to fix it. My son wasn't a good sleeper until he got to be about 3. He was a fussy baby and a fussy sleeper. It turned out he had GERD and that could have caused sleep problems. Then he was like clockwork. They had to wake him in kindergarten b/c he really liked his naps. He was also a very active sleeper. I'd put him to bed and he would wake up with his feet on his pillow and his head at the foot of his bed. I caught him turning around one night and he was completely asleep, sat up, laid back down the opposite direction.
    I was lucky to only be a little nauseated my first 13 weeks. After my son was born, I didn't know you could be that tired and still be alive. I was so happy when he gave up the 2 am feeding, I can't express the relief of getting 5 hours of sleep in a row. I had to get up and pump a little at first to relieve pressure, as by then I had become quite the cow. I started out as a rather small B, but breastfeeding turned me into a EE, and I've never gone below a C afterward.
    I wasn't fortunate to have more than one child. I'm O neg, my hubby is O pos and my son is O pos. I got the shots, but I couldn't get pregnant again. Most people I know with O neg only manage one child, two if they are in their early twenties, but they're not close together.
    Is RH neg a barrier to getting pregnant even with the shots? In my limited experience it seems to be.

      I rented a fetal monitor during my 3rd pregnancy. I had a subchorionic hemorrhage and a lot of bleeding. My anxiety level was high and it was very reassuring to listen to his fetal heart tones before bed every evening. I just needed to know that he was still there before I fell asleep. I worked for several years as an L&D nurse so using the Doppler was easy for me. It alleviated a lot of angst for me and was very reassuring. My little guy is a completely healthy 5 year old now and I'm so glad that technology was available.
