    I liked that presentation a lot!! It really captured the "essence" of life in Silicon Valley. It also really showed me why the cream of the young "internet entrepreneur" crop flock to Silicon Valley. You made it clear that Silicon Valley resources enable an internet company to reach its potential in a way that perhaps no other place can. That in and of itself is extremely important to know.

    I live in Redwood City, just north of Google at about 10 miles or so. I went to Google to complain about something regarding my Google site. I arrived there on one afternoon,
    a few years ago. I drove my car in through a gate, with no security guards, which was
    amazing. I went to the main building with some women greeters at the desk. What got
    me was they had no personnel badges, with no names, what was that about? I guess
    they don't want anyone to know who I was talking to when I arrived at that campus!
    Another thing I noticed, all the buildings there are very close together, no large buildings!
    Two security guards came in and asked me how I got in and for what reason I was there.
    I said I was there to complain about something regarding the Google website. They told
    me it wasn't the place to go but to complain on the Google website. It was all cordial.

    No, Silicon Valley is not "something that goes from San Francisco down to San Jose," smh... It's all in Santa Clara County.

  • @rkmugen
    @rkmugen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    As a native of the SF Bay Area, I have to say that even now, I'm still not used to people referring to anything North-of (and including) San Mateo County as "Silicon Valley". I have no idea when that officially became the term to describe our region. HAH! I remember when there was some sort of un-scientific poll done more than a decade ago, asking SF Bay Area residents if our area/region should be called the "San Jose Bay Area", given that San Jose had a higher population (population density?) compared to San Francisco, and far more high-tech businesses at the time (before all the social media and Web 2.0 stuff came about)........ think Internet Explorer 2.0 and Netscape Navigator 2.0. There was no Firefox...... there was no Google Chrome....... heck....... there was no Google yet either! And Apple's logo was still in rainbow colors! hahahah!

    • @HEROfrozt
      @HEROfrozt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yeah I am also pretty sure than SF isn't counted as a part of Silicon Valley - but I that's going into details.

    • @jansolo69
      @jansolo69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Only people who are not from the Bay Area would ever call San Francisco "Silicon Valley". They're probably the same people who call SF "Frisco".

    Hmmm.....how did Silicon Valley get started? Your history is a little bit off and not sure if you'll like the answer. It got started because of the Cold War. The area had a lot of defense contractors working on systems to destroy Russia. You see ICBM's and rockets do not like vacuum tubes so much (lots of vibrations in rockets) and the need to develop solid state to deal with a number of things (lower use of power, smaller designs, etc.) led to develop what is known today as "chips" or IC's (integrated circuits) in the 1960's. Smaller, lighter, lower use of power than vacuum tubes and mechanical relays made for better ICBM, rocket design, and guidance systems. They were solely developed for this, for the US Military. It wasn't until the late 1970's that a commercial use was found for them, video games, radios, calculators. That led to larger production of IC's, making them cheaper as the gaming and other industry needed them. That led to IC's getting smaller, cramming more transistors and great computing capacity. Then, personal computers because IC's had even greater computing capacity which a computer needs. Gates, Jobs (Silicon Valley brats) and others saw potential in PC's. Silicon Valley was born there because US Defense contractors were located there (also UC Berkeley/Livermore Labs and other defense industries). A little bit of irony isn't it, a Russian finds opportunity in a place that started from wanting to bomb Russia out of existence?

    Respectfully, This is part of the problem that’s contributing to the complete and utter gentrification Of not only San Jose but the Bay Area. “Start ups” like these along with the tech giants are pricing people out of their houses. Evictions are at an all time record high and the rents have gone up 344%. Why don’t you do a video on how start ups and the tech Indus are artificially inflating the housing market and creating an entire army of the homeless? I can’t believe how incredibly tone deaf this video is to what’s going on in the bay area and the housing crisis. You’re right about one thing, your idea may change the world but for many residents of San Jose and the Bay Area, not necessarily for the better

    Silicon Valley didn't become a tech hub because of HP. It became a tech hub because of steady military investment in the valley pre-1970. The investment brought engineering jobs to the area and some of those engineers went on to found private tech companies which cemented the tech-ecosystem.

    • @lucasmateu
      @lucasmateu 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      russians/bulgarians usually misuse articles in english since there isn't any notion of this concept in the Russian Language (the/it/a... doesn't exist; they just say "i like horse" or "this is beautiful house"). Hence why it is common for them to either overuse it when speaking English if they are doing an effort or underuse-it, depending on the context and level of english obviously. In any case, it isn't really a big deal. I also spotted it out when listening 2min of the video😂 good man

    Lived there for 12 yrs. Last straw was a one bedroom condo in Foster City went for 1.2 million. It's also a socialist area. Had to pay for a friend's 2 hour tow that cost... $950.00. If you wait a day it's $250.00 extra per day. Yeah, totally unreal, but San Francisco is crazy and they hate cars. Anyone don't believe the cost, I yelp that stupid company the city gave the contract to. Bay Area believe it or not, is the most uptight narrow minded place in the US.

    • @bingofoothill
      @bingofoothill 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It got that name in 1971 but had been hub of vacuum tube, radio tube, and ocean-spanning radio communications since the early 20th Century. SF Bay's protected port facilities were inviting to the world shipping industry and shipboard radio communications became important a hundred years ago. SF Bay was the early focus of the west coast radio technology industry. Stanford had a role in the spawning of proto-Silicon Valley long before solid-state tech took hold.

    • @ayusharyal5877
      @ayusharyal5877 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      bingofoothill Yeah cause in 1971 everything was made from silicon, germanium was used before but silicon has better temperature charactersitics so silicon wad the main element used. Thus the naming 'Silicon' valley.

    Sorry to nitpick, but SF is not in Silicon Valley. South Bay = Silicon (Santa Clara) Valley.

    Please don't throw Google's name randomly. It's not a child's play to get a job at Google, atleast definitely not at their headquarter.

    I hate Silicon Valley. The whole places is a giant suburb with shitty housing, terrible traffic, and Manhattan price tags. No thanks. Literally anywhere else in the U.S. is better for living.
