ok im 6minutes in and had to ring in. judging by the only comment here at this time im glad i did.
these tools determine the "heat inertia" of a stone and its crucial to follow the correct procedure to get accurate results. ive watched about a dozen review vids and exactly zero were done correctly. first, if there is a color range setting the color must be set before the test is done. uniform and appropriate temp and humidity are also crucial. dont jam the probe against the stone so hard your hand quivers, just firmly press as if using a ball point pen to write a period on plain paper or stylus on a phone keypad and hold steady until a beep or other indicator is given. the tool will indicate the types of stone within the heat inertia range detected factoring in the "resistance" caused by the range of possible causes of the selected color range ie: stone color.
the term "range" means just that. like hardness, heat inertia varies slightly within each type and color of stone. a clear "colorless" sapphire for instance can have a slightly different heat inertia than a deeply saturated colored sapphire and that range can coincide with the upper or lower end of similarly colored diamonds, for example. there is a bit of "kentucky windage" regarding the effect of certain colors in certain stones as trace elements, inclusions and "defects" or vacancies in molecular positioning of certain ions all can affect the color of stones. used correctly these tools are essentially infallible. used improperly they are confusing at best. being made in china for the most part dosent help. no or illegible gibberish instructions are the rule rather than the exception. understanding basic heat inertia theory is key. think of it as the speed at which heat is conducted from molecule to molecule in a given stone. now go spend an hour reading into the subject and you will be as "expert"as the layperson can be at using these extremely accurate tools. G.I.A. has the definitive reporting on both the detectors and heat inertia in gemstones itself. now go get those goodwill gem jars and make that definitive youtube content we so desperately need! Besos.

I have a medically diagnosed tremor. My hands shake when doing many activities, which is what you're seeing happen in the video.
I'm following Presidium's PGI handbook and their how-to videos with regard to the amount of pressure to use and when in the testing process to use the color picker, but I'd love to see your demonstration of the PGI when you do one since it sounds like you are quite informed in it's proper use. I'm always learning!
I hope you have a fabulous week!

I hope Elizabeth doesn’t mind me chiming in, but I’m upset by this comment.
I do appreciate reading opinions and info given, as many of us in this community really appreciate when others share. That’s why we are watching this video. But it not necessary to be mean while sharing your info.
As for Elizabeth “pressing so hard on the stone” she has answered for herself and I’m very proud of her.
She is a very knowledgeable person, a wonderful kind hearted person, and is sharing her findings with those of us who want to watch.
I hope you will consider going a little easier on people. Making videos and putting oneself out there is not easy. Again, I’m proud of anyone who does the work of making videos and has the heart to share with others.
