Them talking about iOS home screen is HILARIOUS. I love that Andrew has the point of view of the average consumer. “I don’t have to look at their phone”. That sums it up. If someone wants to make their setup look ugly they can do that. It’s their phone
I’m a web developer and I use Safari for my personal browsing for a few reasons: 1. Syncing (especially tab groups) with my phone and iPad. 2. Better battery life. 3. I don’t want Chromium’s engine to be the only viable web renderer (which is closer to happening because Edge switched to it under the hood). 4. Most of my web dev happens in Chrome because of the better dev tools, so like having my personal browsing isolated from my dev browsing.
Ya but that's mostly for car makers and developers. I believe Mercedes, BMW and Porsche will have some of the first cars with new CarPlay. But it isn't really an user thing!
@@ieditedmyname289 I MEAN we consumers would be interacting with said CarPlay features. And "Auto Focus" is a thing. And they also had a whole segment relating to cars on a previous recent Waveform. It's not necessary but most might benefit (if you have endless pockets of money, that is).

It's sad how many people still believe no one uses Safari. Everyone I know with a Mac in 2024 uses Safari. There's no reason to replace it anymore, it's really good and its bookmarks are synced by iCloud.
Around 50-60 percent of macOS users use Safari, while 30-40 percent use Chrome. It's interesting that you haven't met anyone who uses Chrome, given its significant user base.
It's because the adoption curve for safari took too long. Chrome was an established browser before Safari came out and people already knew how to use it
@@obsydian806 No, Safari came out 5 years before Chrome. But original Safari and modern Safari are two very different things, and Macs were not as mainstream back then as they are now.
I've switched between Firefox, Chrome, and Safari over the years. Once talented devs were making extensions for Safari, I found myself defaulting back to it. The iCloud syncing was my biggest pull, especially since devices will autofill Safari passwords in relevant third-party apps as needed-super useful now that I basically only use the Safari-generated nonsense passwords that I can never remember on my own haha
48:00 Minor point - I agree about the redundancy of Control Center's new pagination; however, it won't be that hard to access the lower pages because they mentioned in the keynote that if you hold and drag further down when swiping to open CC, it will quickly bring you through the pages without needing to scroll through each page individually so I think it'll actually save more time than having everything on one page within sub-menus.
I still use chrome. It is held back by Macos. Is is slower than edge. Safari is the best one. Coming from a person that uses chrome over the others, but uses all the other as well.

Oh that's weird. I had my speakers pretty loud with my iPhone on the desk. Didn't activate once and I glanced at it every time they mentioned Siri. Unless there's a way to un-personalize Siri from remembering your voice...?
43:29 A couple huge advantages of the new Home Screen customization that has largely flow under the radar: 1: being able to select and move multiple apps at once 2: using tinting to achieve a low dopamine result similar to what could previously be accomplished via accessibility settings. Except now it just affects your apps and not content inside them like photos.
On screen snapping I believe there is a setting to fill in the gaps between apps. For apps partially covering each other I'm not sure if that will help. I found out about the setting from a Brandon Butch video. The setting is under "Desktop & Dock" and the setting is "Tiled windows have margins
Per David on the WatchOS check in feature with workouts, it’s super obvious and easy to activate. You swipe left from the workout screen and it is the fifth option (below the segments and pause/end workouts). Obvious because now there are scroll mechanics in place.
The voice isolation is already there on all apple products, given that its now there on AirPods, its gonna retain that feature also when connected to android too? Are they planning to make it a standalone device?
Pausing a streak is actually really nice. For religious purposes, I try to avoid exercising on Sunday, so it would be great to not have missing Sundays always wreck any streak.
33:50 there’s an option in control center to select an “audio focus mode” I once left “voice isolation” on, when I was FaceTiming someone to show them a music oriented church event and they couldn’t hear it well because of the audio filter, I regularly keep it on for when I call my wife while driving

Common guys, there’s TONS of stands magnetic or otherwise that turn an iPad into a Home App device to control whatever. Marques can you please make a video on how you use notion? I know theres tons of videos out there but I'm specifically interested in your thoughts and usecases
I wanted to mention as a response to customizing the Home Screen on iOS 18. You can have an empty page 1 with no icons to be able to see your wallpaper and all your app icons start on page 2. This is available prior to iOS 18. Great episode as always!
about the gripe david had with the new control center: it seems the solution to tapping in so much to get to the wifi is partially solved by doing the swipe all the way down and instantly getting to that page. i understand that the muscle memory is to go into the little square on page 1 but now i can just swipe all the way down to the last page and see all of those options faster. i do agree with the tinting though, at first i thought it would be cool but instantly realized that there's no way the average person is going to make it look nice at all 😂
47:30 Does David not know what spotlight search is? Swipe down from Home Screen. Type “Wi” and hit the WiFi settings buttons and it takes you to the WiFi setting immediately. Takes 3 seconds
That's stupidity inefficient. So you're telling me everything I wanna go to my wifi settings I have to do type it manually. On Android, one swipe from anywhere of your homescreen to bring down the notification shade, tap and hold the WiFi tile for a second and that's it iOS is now so complicated compared to Android and people are so in denial about it
Rearranging the home screen is my favorite thing about the new iOS. I want my apps on the bottom. As much as Marques wants to control our layouts I'm surprised Tim didn't offer him a job. 😂
Yeah it’s weird that them and everyone spent so long crapping on Apple not allowing you to change your home screen setup. Now that you can they are saying “other people made theirs ugly” 😂

Just started watching and I’m eager to know if the soundboard has been expanded based on the previous episode & feedback from the comments section. Edit: Ok it’s with the new sounds. Awesome!
Marques is spot on. Safari and WebKit's efficiency is unrivaled on macOS. I assume the team are all on the latest high spec Apple Silicon Macs, but if you have an older Intel machine you really notice how optimised Safari is and how Chromium-based browsers (yes including Arc, etc.) are absolute dogs when it comes to performance. This may not be noticeable in terms of lag/hiccups on a later machine but Apple consistently markets battery life gains with Safari, maybe look into that if you're doubting its efficiency.
I have almost always daily driven Safari on my Macs. Chrome is my alternate browser for when I need it to do a specific task, but otherwise I'm always using Safari.

1:01:47 I don’t wanna brag, but a few podcast episodes ago, I made a prediction in the comments that was right on point. I said they would make a calculator app that would be some sort of white board using AI to understand and solve a math problem you wrote with the Apple Pencil. That white board is black but otherwise I still can’t believe I seem to be the only one who saw it coming 😜😁🥳
I have no idea why but my iPad’s Siri loves to listen to you guys, but never my phone. Siri set a timer for 7am on my iPad which was on the other side of my room. Is there a way to revert back to the “hey, Siri” instead of just “Siri”? Update, I figured it out 😎
22:42 bro me too, there was incorrectly perceived complicatedness, primary intent doing a late night run for individuals in cities or just those who are anxious, alternatively, dangerous hikes or workouts in nature
Thank you for addressing the obvious, that Apple just used your platform to advertise without giving you the opportunity to ask more questions. I know you want access to Tim Apple but be careful to not just be a mouthpiece for advertising.
Meanwhile there’s people on Threads that are unironically saying Marques was “bush league” and amateur for the Magic Mouse question. I guess there will always be those who can think of the exact opposite thing or opinion I might have.
I'd say tracking your vitals gives a lot of motivation to live a healthier life. From someone who has had an oura for a year and a garmin for a few months, and took a two week break from wearing them, I have cared a lot less about my sleep when I'm not being told how terrible it is. This won't be the same for everyone though. Knowing when to rest is useful too for training obviously
It is so annoying when android users say ” android already had that”. Apple users don’t care how long you had it. We’ll never use android just like you’ll never use iOS. So shut up and enjoy your system.
pretending people don't use Safari is bizarre. Why would I use another browser on the Mac? It's the most efficient/lightest and just as fast as others.
every time I head people saying they use Safari, it surprises me. Safari for me is like the IE on Windows in the past, you just opened it to download a better browser and never touched again
Every time I use Safari or Edge is because is because I have to, or working in a company's computer, so obviously, they don't let us just download a new browser...
FYI: With regards to the window tiling feature in MacOS, you can dive into the settings and remove the padding for the window tiling so there isn't gaps in between the windows :)
Your take on the control center is the worst take ever 😅. I think after using it you guys will see the benefits and how easy and accessible everything is.
Regarding the ring streak pausing, this is actually pretty great for neurodivergent folks. I’m autistic, and I obsess over that streak. Breaking it is anxiety inducing. I completely realize the streak is literally broken, but building a “rule” into the procedure is helpful for folks like me. No idea if Apple had neurodivergence in mind here, but I appreciate regardless.

RCS on android has supported all emojis as Tapback for a year and a half. Apple added it because it needed to in order to be compatible with RCS

1:01:47 I don’t wanna brag, but a few podcast episodes ago, I made a prediction in the comments that was right on point. I said they would make a calculator app that would be some sort of white board using AI to understand and solve a math problem you wrote with the Apple Pencil. That white board is black but otherwise I still can’t believe I seem to be the only one who saw it coming 😜😁🥳
was waiting for this one
I have no idea why but my iPad’s Siri loves to listen to you guys, but never my phone. Siri set a timer for 7am on my iPad which was on the other side of my room. Is there a way to revert back to the “hey, Siri” instead of just “Siri”?
Update, I figured it out 😎
LETS GO :D love Fridays
22:42 bro me too, there was incorrectly perceived complicatedness, primary intent doing a late night run for individuals in cities or just those who are anxious, alternatively, dangerous hikes or workouts in nature
Thank you for addressing the obvious, that Apple just used your platform to advertise without giving you the opportunity to ask more questions. I know you want access to Tim Apple but be careful to not just be a mouthpiece for advertising.
Very good point.
Meanwhile there’s people on Threads that are unironically saying Marques was “bush league” and amateur for the Magic Mouse question. I guess there will always be those who can think of the exact opposite thing or opinion I might have.
They both mutually benefit.
Let's not pretend like only Tim Cook benefits.
They scream for attention every WWDC.
Apple users only care about the latest overpriced e-waste
pretending people don't use Safari is bizarre. Why would I use another browser on the Mac? It's the most efficient/lightest and just as fast as others.
Finally, the weekend guys start with the best Waveform. Looking forward to your thoughts on WWDC.
The tiling demo with the realtime podcast video was unnecessarily awesome...
every time I head people saying they use Safari, it surprises me. Safari for me is like the IE on Windows in the past, you just opened it to download a better browser and never touched again
Safari is the best browser on Mac by far man, sorry, but it's true.
Every time I use Safari or Edge is because is because I have to, or working in a company's computer, so obviously, they don't let us just download a new browser...
If you havent touched safari in the last 7 years than yeah you could think that
FYI: With regards to the window tiling feature in MacOS, you can dive into the settings and remove the padding for the window tiling so there isn't gaps in between the windows :)
Same here. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and had to stop using my Apple Watch for this very reason.
