I live in New Hampshire and trains are rare. The grew up in St. Paul, MN and when I was a kid we had an active line running through the neighborhood. Ore cars full of taconite from Iron Range in northern MN would pass through on their way to eastern steel mills. I miss those days. Standing along the tracks and waving at the engineers and the occasional caboose.
Another winner Mike! The opening shot is one of my favorites (although there is alot to enjoy), the beautiful shades of the rock and the angle of the shot; almost looks like a model railroad. - Balerio
Hey CoasterFan - I can’t thank you enough for all your videos...at about 16 months old, my now 2 year old little son became obsessed with trains and in particulate, train and tunnels - your videos have been great, the amount of times he’s refused to sit and have dinner until I say “I’ll put in train and tunnels” then he’s literally trying to climb into the high chair, same for breakfast - he runs around the house yelling “trains and tunnels” and more than once it’s been either the last thing he’s said as his little eyes have closed at the end of the day, or the first words out of his mouth in the morning. He just woke up from his nap - “what do you want to do this afternoon Jacob” ... “TRAINS TUNNELS DOO DOO DOO DOO” (he can’t make a “choo” sound yet) - great work and thank you very much from a little Australian boy obsessed with your work and a grateful family who always have a way to capture his attention. Cheers Mate - Adam
A good variety of trains good scenery the tunnels look good I like the way the diesel work in threes and fours with only one driver the steam engines look good ( good video) thanks
0:30 is that the Durango and Silverton or the Cumbres and Toltec? 1:09 those are some odd Coil cars! 1:19 that looks like an airplane parts car that just got out of the tunnel! 2:14 I like that shot! 2:42 I like that photo freight! 4:06 one of the few underground streetcar stations in existence! 4:17 nice shot! where was it? 5:23 you actually got sit in the cab?! what engine was that? 6:02 that tunnel looks old! 6:32 I can easily tell that's a good shot of southern 4501 on the Tennessee Valley railroad! Great Job! You should visit the Moffat Tunnel in Winter Park, Colorado or the Cascade tunnel!
You should get up the Fraser and Thompson Canyons of British Columbia between Hope and Kamllops, the tunnels and avalanche sheds as well as the bridges are spectacular anytime of the year.
Both CN and CP use both lines, they use the CN for heading East and the CP line for heading West., there are both intermodals and coal trains using the Deltaport terminal south of Vancover, so there is plenty of rail traffic in Southern British Columbia.
dennis trident william She was taken out of service for a rebuild, but with lack of funding for the WMSR, and other projects, who knows when it will be back up.
Excellent video Mike. Though I must say, I was rather surprised that Donner Pass wasn't featured, given how many tunnels the line goes through. Still a great mini-production though.
Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't have any stock video of the tunnels on Donner, but I do have some from Feather River, which I think is a good replacement.
Hi CoasterFan 2015, are you Mike Amstrong? I like your videos, but not as much...as my now 2 and a half years old son, who really love it and also it´s been helping me as a dad to put him to sleep since he was maybe 16 months? hard to remember exactly now, but it´s been a while, so would like to thank you for your effort. Do you record and edit the videos yourself? very nice points of view, also what kind of program you use to edit them. Thank you again
I want to as soon as I get a chance. I am tentatively planning to revisit the midwest this fall, but 1630 will not be running by the time I'm out there.
Unfortunately, I will not because it conflicts with the 4 days of steam at the Grand Canyon that I am going to next week. But, I will be going back to C&TS this fall.
+CoasterFan2105. Fine filming. Nice work. I used to sit on the overlook patio after dinner or breakfast from Hilltop House, and see the trains at night from the room. Can't do that anymore.
BACKSTORY because the choices you make are not going through this with the $50005. but you have no reason for it becary or something like you can get the money back and forth between you.
The departure of the train from the tunnel is mesmerizing... Thank you!

7:28 - I have to admit, the echo of the horn made it even more majestic.
2:05: I say, the shot and sounds of the train entering the tunnel was good.
2:28 And even the shot when the train exits the tunnel!
Thanks so much! My son loves this video :)

At 6:08, The Tunnel looks like The 1849 Chetoogeta Mountain Tunnel in Tunnel Hill Georgia.
Very similar part of the country.
What railway is that in 4:57 and where is it located.
i love this video
Trains coming out of tunnel lok like they suddenly appear thanks for the video Mike 🚝🚆
its cool when the steam trains come out of the tunnels in a huge cloud of smoke
I love watching a coal fired engine coming up a grade exiting a tunnel. The sound and smoke are incredible.
I knew you would include the Caltrain!
I love your videos 😍

You should get up the Fraser and Thompson Canyons of British Columbia between Hope and Kamllops, the tunnels and avalanche sheds as well as the bridges are spectacular anytime of the year.
That is definitely on the list. Do you know about how heavy the train traffic is on that line?

trains? tunnels? Awesome!

Love SP 4449's whistle!
I'm glad somebody noticed that!
I liked the part where there was a tunnel
Super butiful tren! !!!
There’s a train tunnel not two hundred yards from my apartment. I hear trains several times a day.
Once an engine attached to a train was afraid of a few drops of rain.
Also at 0:22, This reminds me of Choo Choo Trains Close Up and Personal.

dennis trident william She was taken out of service for a rebuild, but with lack of funding for the WMSR, and other projects, who knows when it will be back up.
Hey maybe when she is restored again she could be in her original LS&I lettering and road number.
Buynot Doubt the WMSR would do that to her, since it is the WMSR after all and not the LS&I SR.

Yeah. I enjoy visiting both lines. Some of the most picturesque tunnels on Donner require a bit of hiking to get to, but they're very much worth it.
