Dark brown and/or teacore is a pretty good compromise if you're just planning to get one. That's what I did with my first nice leather jacket and I didn't feel bad about pairing it with almost anything.
Team brown for me because the cast of Firefly looked great in earth tones. That was my jumping off point. I've since learned that it's easier to work with and create unique outfits from dressy to casual.
I'm team Brown. but honestly, I felt I was the only guy left in town wearing a leather jacket in fall 2024. And that's why I got the F&T wax trucker jacket...
Definitely convinced me to get that new Black Schott jacket I was talking to you about 😈😏 Maybe I should do a video on it soon too? Collab Schott video with the Stridewise channel? 👀🤠
A timely video for me. I'm 58. I ride a motorcycle. I mostly wear jeans and t shirts casually, with either brown or black boots depending on the day. Schott cafe racer style 141 is my idea of the perfect leather jacket. Black or brown? My reflex says black, always had black leather jackets, but I do also really like the brown. Can only afford one right now. I feel brown may be more versatile for casual wear off the bike which is also a factor for an expensive jacket? Keep going back and forth. Need to decide soon, need a new jacket for riding season, my old one (black cafe style, not a Schott) is too big now, a good problem to have.
Some people have said it, I got an Aero Board Racer and I went with a teacore (which they call blackened brown.) Got it with brown stitching as well. I think it gives it more color versatility but I am one of those people that says black and navy don’t go well together and that applies to this jacket. If I could do it all over again I’d go with a mid to dark brown though.
Recently discovered Master Supply, a Canadian brand. I'd be interested in a review. Leather jackets that look great and are relatively inexpensive. I think they're made in Pakistan.
I have both a black and brown leather jacket because I have a great local thrift ship. Find yourself a great local thrift ship and go there once every couple weeks, once a month. You’ll find great stuff.
Your content never disappoints brother. Happy new year to you. You're a better man than me, I was going to write 'why not both' but then you called it out lol. As far as I'm concerned, there is no controversy about men in their 40s wearing leather. Just from out of touch fasionistubers who like their men looking extra ordinary (not to be confused with extraordinary) and vanilla.
I went with a unlined schott pull up leather jacket because I think the pull up look, different textures and colors look more interesting than straight black but I think black is alot easier to wear
For menswear across the board I would say black at night and brown during the day works best. I'm thinking the Ramones at night and Steve McQueen during the day. Noticed also that in the worn examples the boots and jacket colour matched but that wasn't openly spoken about. Any thoughts on whether you need to match leather footwear to the jacket colour?
When I worked in western wear, Scally Leather sold brown suede blazers. I was young then, had a different style then. Now that I’m attending my own halftime festivities, I sure wish I had one of those blazers now. I wouldn’t wear it in the most ideal conditions preferring a patina over time. Oh, well.
Definitely team brown for me - this goes for leather jackets and boots. I have a crap tonne of brown leather footwear, but only one pair of black leather dress shoes for formal occasions.
Both jackets are great. Schott makes quality leather. U paid full price? If you’re in the NY area, u shoulda went to the Schott factory sale. They have it one day a year. They’re looking to unload all unsold & minor blemish inventory throughout the years. They also take 20% off all retail items. Got my Schott leather jackets, shirts, and peacoat at a huge discount over the years.
I've been very, VERY fortunate this year to get my hands on a new Belstaff Trophy motorcycle leather jacket in a dark, granite grey for a mere $600,- Only thing wrong with it were a few scratches on two of the snap buttons and a single scuff on the leather that I've buffed out first time I greased and waxed the jacket. It'll be my forever jacket. I can wear it so many different ways! And it's a little different from plain black, which I really dig. I've heard and seen the arguments of so called fashion 'eXpErTs' on why I shouldn't wear a leather jacket being over 40 and I'm like 'get f*$@d'. I'm 47, I'm not dead.
Same here. I’m 47 year old, married, fat father of 2. Why do they make the jackets so big if they didn’t want fat guys wearing them. Lol. Dan Connor looked damn cool wearing his on Roseanne every so often.
Why don't you buy 2 second hand jackets - brown and black and choose which color works best?? After that maybe these jackets are good enough and you don't even need the new jacket?
I'd say the same guidelines as the brown one. It's more of a statement piece though, a little louder - so in that sense it's right between the two. I have one myself and plan a video on it
Id only choose black leather for that classic iconic Marlon Brando Wild one Moto asymmetrical (perfecto) leather Jacket (it only looks good black imo) other than that Brown leather but id be most interested in a natural leather that will darken and patina over time
@Stridewise I have a tan roughout leather jacket with a brown collar and sleeves made of smooth leather too. It's called the scoundrel from master supply.
I disagree on your color placement. The moss and burgundy go on warm, and the strong primary colors go on cool. While it doesn't make sense from a "temp" perspective, it is mostly a game of contrast. Earth tones like harmony of colors while the cool palette likes high contrast splashes on a canvas. A bright red scarf goes on cool tones while a rich, dark red goes on earth.
Brown jacket, black shoes. Specifically chocolate brown or darker. The darker browns are versatile and also highly compatible with cool colors. Strong dislike for those orange medium browns or lighter. Brown leather jackets are dressier since flight jackets are brown. Military apparel is designed to have a degree of formality. Black is associated with riding jackets which are casual by nature due to all of their zippers belts leather pullers. I've yet to be happy with a pure black jacket even though black is for my winter complexion Imo the shinier the leather, the better brown will be. Shiny black leather is too reflective
Black is too much of a uniform. I do have a much loved old charcoal leather jacket though. As I've got older I have evolved into a warm coloured low contrast guy, and I find both black and white to be too harsh and empty. I think brown is paradoxically more rebellious than black beyond youth - ie sheep choose black and thinkers choose brown, and I say the past is actually valuable and I want that to show. I still wear my old blackish leather jacket because of the memories but have wrangled the rest the outfit to be sneakily brownish elsewhere with grey/taupe.
Brown= Safe bit (Don't know what you're doing / Don't care about the rest of your outfit) Black= risky ( you could easily look like you don't know what you're doing, so you better pay attention to the fit and the rest of the outfit) Loved the video Excellent as always Nick
black RGT waxed canvas supply jacket and Flint and Tinder brown canvas jacket for me, IMO leather is corny (just my opinion, some people can make it look ok)

Clark Kent would wear brown and Bruce Wayne would wear black.
Really great thought I like it!
@@benpuffer7891 ooh that’s a killer summary
Black tea core. 2 birds one stone.
But it makes black earthy! You're breaching the divide between warm and cool colors, you're breaking all the rules!
A black waxed flesh leather jacket would be awesome, the brown coming through with wear 😍

Leather always black, brown is suede, field def green and bomber maroon is cool
Love the video, convinced me I need a brown leather jacket asap! Have you ever thought about doing an example wardrobe video for your style?
yo that's the next video! sort of! like a capsule wardrobe one? i did a capsule wardrobe one that's out in a bit
A very dark brown leather jacket looks great.
Some people have said it, I got an Aero Board Racer and I went with a teacore (which they call blackened brown.) Got it with brown stitching as well. Besides the fit, the most important thing, it is how dose the color matches your (SKIN COLOR) in your case the brown looks better!!

I went with a unlined schott pull up leather jacket because I think the pull up look, different textures and colors look more interesting than straight black but I think black is alot easier to wear
Black automatically makes me think '50s greaser, which is definitely an aesthetic but not mine
Black leather jackets = outlaw biker

The Marc New York Moto jacket is on sale at Macys. It comes in black and expresso. Not Schott but looks pretty good.
Why don't you buy 2 second hand jackets - brown and black and choose which color works best??

Where would a very light brown / tan / natural jacket fit?
I'd say the same guidelines as the brown one. It's more of a statement piece though, a little louder - so in that sense it's right between the two. I have one myself and plan a video on it
Great comparisons
Thanks! I really shine when I get to the sociology side of menswear haha
What are the jeans you’re wearing with the white sneakers/white T?
left field's greaser!
Can’t do both?

I recently purchased a burgundy leather jacket. Also you can buy quality full grain leather jackets for under $500.
burgundy jackets are real cool. my only one that isn't brown or black is like tan, and i'm still working out how to best wear it
Is that near oxblood? I'd love to try that out!
@@tempestandacomputer6951 burgundy is like a purpley red. Oxblood is like maroon
@Stridewise I have a tan roughout leather jacket with a brown collar and sleeves made of smooth leather too. It's called the scoundrel from master supply.
The solution for me is owning one of each lol. I have a Rainbow Country G-1 in seal brown and a Real Mccoys Nelson jacket in black horse hide.
I was just thinking about this myself! Then I see this video

True it’s either contrast or monochromatic!

*Black* 🔥
I would pick a brown leather jacket so I can be part of the Brown Jacket Supremacy Gang meme (all of the people in the meme are video game characters)
My heart says black. My brain says brown.
It should go off of your normal color palette for your clothes. I wear a lot of black and I wouldn't even consider a brown leather jacket
bingo

I disagree. Most people wear black and black matches everything. With brown, it doesn't go with every colour, so you've gotta think about it more.
lol 😂 you had to choose? Why not get both
@@jerseattle0722 I address this before we’re even one minute into the video dude god damn
Black is great for 20 year olds wearing t shirts but once your 40ish brown and button downs is the safer bet
🔥
Black or brown? It's very easy, just get both.
