Not knowledgeable enough about music theory to know the mode. I know she uses a lot of harmonic minor scale and can sing microtones. She was already an expert at yodeling by the time of this performance and crying off her break at the end of phrases is very much a characteristic of her style. And then a voice slide that starts bright and hopeful and gradually slides down turning into a moan, a cry.) I have no mother, I have no father, I have no one to give me blessings (and then she howls like a wounded animal. After calming down, she turns back to the river again as to the only close soul though not a mother). You river, my little river, you flow but you don’t cradle…. What she performed here was nothing short of a witchcraft!!! This is her interpretation, this was not the original version. She won! Recenka , which means river,is a Russian folk song about an orphaned girl who is being given away in a loveless marriage. She goes to the river to ask the spirit of her mother to bless her. Diana was 18 years old when she performed can't help falling in love. She is currently 19 years old and in her 3rd year of study at the GITIS which is the Russian music academy.
I didn't know about what that song is and i could feel how emotional its for her how connected she is with it. But now having some idea about song i can understand y she is so connected. Her own story is so similar... she is an orphan from very abusive family...

Diana first performed a yodeling song to try to get into this competition years earlier when she was 12. They did not turn there chairs for her so she wasn’t chosen to be in the competition. She is a trained in yodeling.

Her stunning cover of SWEET DREAMS is spooky but her vocal tone switch ups make for an unbelievable performance. I have been a fan of DIANA’s for several years now and I believe Im blessed to hear such a unique singer that’s like no other I’ve ever heard. Great 👍🏽 Choice. Absolutely great set of recent reactions! From analyzing one of Dimash's best performances to reacting to Diana's masterful performance here. I really enjoy her performances, but this is an amazing performance early in her career that sets a high mark for her to exceed. She has possibly done it in a few other performances, but this one is just so incredible that it captivates me every time I hear it.
Diana has a number of 'crazily unique' aspects about her and her voice, and the world is so lucky to have her and be able to enjoy her prodigious talent. As you may be aware, she had a very rocky start with a bio mother with mental health issues whom Diana has reported tried to both strangle and drown her in infancy on more than one occasion. She wound up injured and abandoned on the street and went into an orphanage, where she stayed for approximately 2 years, until her adoptive mother found her. Due to trauma she had significant developmental speech difficulties and delays, and, in large part, this was how her singing voice was discovered and developed. From I gather, around the age of 5, she was sent to a Speech Pathologist who introduced an number of vocal techniques, including singing. Her parents realised she had a prodigious vocal talent and then found her a skilled voice teacher, who worked intensively with her for a number of years. The resulting very advanced 'tool kit' of skills she demonstrates here in this wonderful performance is therefore perhaps less surprising, even though only what: 14/ 15? at this time. [ Rechenka means River and the song is based on an old Russian folk tale of a young woman who is about to marry. She goes to the River, which is the boundary between the living and those passed, and tries to communicate via the River Spirits to seek her dead mothers blessing on her marriage.] The 'Witchy - Shamanistic' atmosphere she, and the whole arrangement, creates is very powerful and speaks to her incredible artistic intelligence.
Love it. Show us your tongue is good. Empirical evidence rules. So many supposed expert reactors assume, and get the technicals wrong with DIana, bias-blinded out of their own limitedness. Your comments, the analysis diagnosing Diana's added vocal spice, her split second moans and groans, her mini riffs, clicks and growls to create vocal colour are particular veins of gold. Your bass drone fits so well, I now imagine you doing a live drone backing of her in an a capella live performance of Rechenka - such as she has done at times. Amazingly, she was 14.

She hit that "high C" (actually C6) in her cover of California Dreamin'. But last october, during her first collaboration with Sasha Kapustina, she went a whole step higher and hit D6 ("high D") in the song Feeling Good.

This is my favorite performance of hers. It really captures the lovely spooky quality of her voice and shows off what she can do.
Diana first performed a yodeling song to try to get into this competition years earlier when she was 12. They did not turn there chairs for her so she wasn’t chosen to be in the competition. She is a trained in yodeling.
Diana Ankudinova had a tough childhood but thanks to her foster loving mother, Irina Ponik (you can see her in the video, woman in the glasses), everything has changed for the better. So she can translate the soul of the song 🎵 and we can get all wonderful emotions!Thanks a lot for your reaction, like 👍

Peter…if you possibly get the opportunity. You’ve got to view her THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE on a recent MASK SHOW. Her stunning cover of SWEET DREAMS is spooky but her vocal tone switch ups make for an unbelievable performance. I have been a fan of DIANA’s for several years now and I believe Im blessed to hear such a unique singer that’s like no other I’ve ever heard. Great 👍🏽 Choice. If you like turbulence in a performer she also does a cover of “Ill win you back” a poem and if you find the lyrics is amazingly powerful. Thanks for sharing your analysis 🧐 and support

Absolutely great set of recent reactions! From analyzing one of Dimash's best performances to reacting to Diana's masterful performance here. I really enjoy her performances, but this is an amazing performance early in her career that sets a high mark for her to exceed. She has possibly done it in a few other performances, but this one is just so incredible that it captivates me every time I hear it.
Diana has a number of 'crazily unique' aspects about her and her voice, and the world is so lucky to have her and be able to enjoy her prodigious talent. As you may be aware, she had a very rocky start with a bio mother with mental health issues whom Diana has reported tried to both strangle and drown her in infancy on more than one occasion. She wound up injured and abandoned on the street and went into an orphanage, where she stayed for approximately 2 years, until her adoptive mother found her. Due to trauma she had significant developmental speech difficulties and delays, and, in large part, this was how her singing voice was discovered and developed. From I gather, around the age of 5, she was sent to a Speech Pathologist who introduced an number of vocal techniques, including singing. Her parents realised she had a prodigious vocal talent and then found her a skilled voice teacher, who worked intensively with her for a number of years. The resulting very advanced 'tool kit' of skills she demonstrates here in this wonderful performance is therefore perhaps less surprising, even though only what: 14/ 15? at this time.
[ Rechenka means River and the song is based on an old Russian folk tale of a young woman who is about to marry. She goes to the River, which is the boundary between the living and those passed, and tries to communicate via the River Spirits to seek her dead mothers blessing on her marriage.]
The 'Witchy - Shamanistic' atmosphere she, and the whole arrangement, creates is very powerful and speaks to her incredible artistic intelligence.
Love it. Show us your tongue is good. Empirical evidence rules. So many supposed expert reactors assume, and get the technicals wrong with DIana, bias-blinded out of their own limitedness. Your comments, the analysis diagnosing Diana's added vocal spice, her split second moans and groans, her mini riffs, clicks and growls to create vocal colour are particular veins of gold. Your bass drone fits so well, I now imagine you doing a live drone backing of her in an a capella live performance of Rechenka - such as she has done at times. Amazingly, she was 14.

Currently, Diana has added super lows and a whistle register, but her Rechenka will always give me goosebumps. Your videos are probably the best I’ve seen for breaking down vocal techniques. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

Oh, you just have to listen to "The Crow" from Diana. This perticular moment, when she sings subharmonic, so smoothe and without transitions. I had to listen to it several times to notice, that this was really her.

Oh please sciency! That’s why I love your videos and explanations. Probably one of the only people who can actually understand what it is she’s doing. Welcome back. A good and fun issue, a lot of interesting things. Of course, I haven't learned anything, I don't sing at all, but it's always interesting to watch a specialist. The hoarse tone of voice (16:48) is certainly not a marriage in performance, it is subordinate to the meaning of the phrase and expresses the emotional excitement of the heroine. Diana's singing always has a lot of airiness and yodeling endings of phrases. Don't be gone for long.

She was 14 for this performance and she's a yodeler (she has a performance when she was younger than this doing a yodel song and was refused from the show, they just couldn't see the jewel in the rough). I always wondered if she purposely put the yodel in this song as if to say... told ya so.
honestly, i didn't see anything rough in that performance. yodeling ain't for me, but what she was doing was incredibly impressive, i'm still confused as to why none of them pressed their button.

She is currently performing in a Russian TV version of "The Mask". She is the ermine (impossible to mistake her voice). Her take on the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" is just stunning. And she can hit a high C now 😮
