Mannnnn such a legendary track! Every time I listen, It feels like the first time hearing it. Can’t even imagine what it was like hearing this on the radio when it was brand new.
Lol when this song first hit the radio I was a kid and it scared me! All I could think about was that story he was telling was a cryptic warning, too bad more people back then didn't take heed before they started dusting...but now hearing this again as an adult, I can appreciate not just the message, but the beautiful arrangement and sound.
Loved this song for it kept me straight ... When folks talked about much fun getting high was I always Heard in my head "Down Some Dead End Streets There Ain't No Turning Back" Looking around today, it was way ahead of it's time
Gil Scott Herron cannot be done justice today, he is gone.. never to return. I feel even more strongly today that history will eventually recognize that we lost a Giant in 2011.
":you won't remember what u missing, but down some dead-end streets ain't no turning back"!! The MAN Gil -just tryin to tell folks don't go where he couldn't back from!!
Absolutely ahead of his time, but then the greatest ones are always so. Our world is so messed up right now his music can still calm the soul to listen to these messages.
Mean Joe Green, Your were a product of Katy, Tx, a Viet war vet, and a 25 year driver for Kroger. Above all, you were a Hell of a Grampa. As a product of '87, you took the time to teach me manners, wisdom, patience, persistence, and knowledge. It's a blessing to have an old soul as a result of being your first grandchild. May your spirit boogaloo to the bass lines of every classic before my time that placed me ahead of my time. The memories of you and that Canadian 95 proof are still fresh. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Old Man.

Very gifted brother ,music with a positive message and very talented musicians very rare in today’s music to bad he fell victim of what he spoke against , RIP your legacy will live forever.
Spent 1968 with Gil at LINCOLN U. In rural Pennsyvania . Was not a good fit for him and he moved on .He was very generous with his time and helped us all gr0w . You can get real feel for the times from RED BULL interview with Brian Jackson . We all hung out in theater building which had language labs at one end. Gil was true poet. Brian was the music . But by time I graduated in 1971 Gil had first album out . The rest was HIStory. Love "angel Dust".
No bass guitar on this song or anywhere on this album, believe it or not .. keyboard bass synth parts by Brian Jackson, drummer is Alvin Taylor on this song. * album is Secrets (1978) not Pieces Of A Man (1971)
Being a guy 79, attending a DC High school, living in northern Va. Since 1970, it is indeed frustrating seeing others who have heard this song and others, not heed the message, particularly if they have been around drug use... Learn from the mistakes of others!
What, did you believe in the war on drugs and the possibility of a drug-free society? People will always use, we need to educate, legalize, and treat addiction as a disease, and realize people WILL experiment, no law will stop that.

[Verse 3: Gil Scott-Heron with (Background Vocals by Julia Waters, Marti McCall, and Maxine Waters)]
Sweat was pouring
He couldn’t take it
The room was exploding
He might not make it
(Angel Dust)
Please, children, it’s hard to listen, but
(Angel Dust)
I ain’t trying to run your life
(Angel Dust)
Might just seem like one more good time
But down some dead-end streets
There ain’t no turning back
(Angel Dust)
Please, children, it’s hard to listen, but
(Angel Dust)
I ain’t trying to run your life, believe me
(Angel Dust)
Don’t mean nobody no good nowhere
And down some dead-end streets
There ain’t no turning back, to back, to back
Go away from
(Angel Dust)
Please, children, would you listen to me?
(Angel Dust)
I’m in fear, I ain’t trying to run your life, believe me
(Angel Dust)
Just don’t mean nobody no good
(Angel Dust)
THANK YOU
vision failing now

Back In The Day, When Music Always Had a Great Message That You Can Always Live Bye.😎👍
The album "The Secret" was the first album I ever heard. To say he kept it real would be an understatement. He spoke the truth of the black people.
take your rest Gil Scott your music will play on
LISA HOWARD YES IT WILL
The bass and how it goes with the beat is just too sexy. His poetic style of singing is just amazing!
One of my Favorite from back in the day, still has relevance today.
R.I.P The Father of Hip-hop
joshua patterson TRue InDeeD!
Imagine The Godfather of Hip Hop and The Godfather of MCing got tigether?
EZ Wutang , he was bigger than hip hop , lyrically
saw him in BOSTON in the 70'S at a Jazz club bad ass
TFW your Dad uses your TH-cam account to comment on a song. Then independent listen to the song a year later and notice the comment
Don’t know why I woke up the other day and this song from my childhood was playing in me subconscious! Takes me back to the 70’s growing up immersed in the poverty of the Ghetto! But in it’s miserable air was the Beauty of LOVE!!!!
This is the cleanest track, with lyrics about the dirtiest drug!!
Well said. AND ONE DIRTY, EVIL drug is exactly what it is.
@@Stanley.77 Yeah man, I never did it, but a LOT of my friends did... Nasty stuff. Sweet song though!
2023 still goin hard
Absolutely timeless music.
I used to get dusted back in the 70's. Yeah, it's a trip. You''ll never forget the taste of that stuff.
Same here. We were lucky, huh?,
Nothing like music hopping and coming across a gem like this. Nice.
Angel dust X4
He was groovin'
And that was when he coulda sworn
The room was movin'
But that was only in his mind
He was sailin'
He never really seemed to notice
Vision failin'
'Cause that was all part of the high
Sweat was pourin'
He couldn't take it
The room was exploding
He might not make it.
Angel Dust
Please, children would you listen.
Angel Dust
Just ain't where it's at.
Angel Dust
You won't remember what you're missin'
But down some dead end streets
There ain't no turnin' back.
They were standin'
Everybody in a circle
The whole family
Listening to the preacher's words
Sis was cryin'
She alone held the secrets
About his dyin'
Tears fallin' to earth
Maybe her fault
He was so trusting
God only knew why
They was dustin'
Angel Dust
Please, gonna be the death of you children
Angel Dust
Just ain't where it's at.
Angel Dust
You won't remember what you're missin'
But down some dead end streets
There ain't no turnin' back.
Believe me sister
Don't mean nobody no good nowhere
Sweat was pourin'
He couldn't take it
The room was exploding
He might not make it
Angel dust
Children it's hard to listen but
Angel Dust
I ain't tryin' to run your life
Angel dust
Might just seem like one more good time
But down some dead end streets there ain't no turnin' back
Angel dust
Children I know it's hard to listen but
Angel dust
I ain't tryin' to run your life
Angel dust
Don't mean nobody no good nowhere
And down some dead end streets there ain't no turnin' back
Please children would you listen to me
I'm not tryin' to run your life
just sent this album to my 30 yr. old granddaughter. Watergate Blues #Trumpgate, it follows a pattern, if you know what I mean.😎

In Philly they now call dust
#Wet!
This is the first time I’m hearing this brilliance. I really don’t have the words to adequately describe how great this truly is.
Peace go with you brother Gil Scott (Rip )
love it. good message to the messenger 😉
latlanticcityphil
R.I.P. (Rap In Paradise) my brother...my friend....my teacher, Gil.
Most definitely 🙏🏾
Mannnnn such a legendary track! Every time I listen, It feels like the first time hearing it. Can’t even imagine what it was like hearing this on the radio when it was brand new.
I was in high school in the 70's when this came out! Its This song that made me say never!
I remember this voice . This is voice was living in the 60's and 70's . You walked to this rhythm. Crazy, but this just brought me home .
Pure genius , loved this man and his music and words. Lucky to see him in 1979 and 2010
Lol when this song first hit the radio I was a kid and it scared me! All I could think about was that story he was telling was a cryptic warning, too bad more people back then didn't take heed before they started dusting...but now hearing this again as an adult, I can appreciate not just the message, but the beautiful arrangement and sound.
Yes groove to it...shit💕
Was cleaning the house then this song just came playing after listening to we almost lost Detroit I'm blown away
I love it.. Brings back memories.. You are greatly missed brother.. Thanks for sharing!
Loved this song for it kept me straight ... When folks talked about much fun getting high was I always Heard in my head "Down Some Dead End Streets There Ain't No Turning Back" Looking around today, it was way ahead of it's time
I remember when this song came out! I was in Grammar School in Los Angeles! Classic!
RIP Gil!
Gil Scott Herron cannot be done justice today, he is gone.. never to return. I feel even more strongly today that history will eventually recognize that we lost a Giant in 2011.
I think already do.
":you won't remember what u missing, but down some dead-end streets ain't no turning back"!! The MAN Gil -just tryin to tell folks don't go where he couldn't back from!!
Mr Heron was my Rabbi back in the day.. Praise Beee💋🌞💚
This base line tho? Jeeeez Louise
Happy memories of performing this back in 1988 at Middlesex. A great band and great gig. Thanks to one and all (always). Halcyon days.🌞🙏👍🇬🇧🌞
Who still listening to this classic 2021
How about 2024?
My college days brought me here. Don't sleep on this entire album. The whole thang is killin'. "Third World Revolution" is my joint!
A true prophet ahead of his time!!!
2023 and this my new favorite song
Absolutely ahead of his time, but then the greatest ones are always so. Our world is so messed up right now his music can still calm the soul to listen to these messages.
I'm in love with his voice and lyrics-so happy to have discovered him a couple of years back!
Mean Joe Green,
Your were a product of Katy, Tx, a Viet war vet, and a 25 year driver for Kroger.
His music always carried a message. Job well done.
This is still cold in 2023. I've watched the name of dust change names from angel dust to sherm to water. Smh it's still f'n up ppl
Worst drug ever
Gil's father was a Jamaican. Bless up Jamaica! Jamaica's gift to America! Another Jamaican creator of rap and Hip-hop.
Y'all want to be seen so bad 😭😭😭 it's miserable. Americans created hip hop James brown Curtis Mayfield little Richard on and on and gil was born in bred in the home of the blues Chicago. You pum pum boys ain't start nothing but we made reggae
Pleasant surprise. I’m 23, this is my first exposure to him. Fan for Life!
you got taste youngblood!
The drums and on bass guitar are killing it
No bass guitar on this song or anywhere on this album, believe it or not .. keyboard bass synth parts by Brian Jackson, drummer is Alvin Taylor on this song.
* album is Secrets (1978) not Pieces Of A Man (1971)
@@johnarundell7951 Drum keyboard bass it just mix well with the song
Here it is 2019 and we still got the same damn problems...
Being a guy 79, attending a DC High school, living in northern Va. Since 1970, it is indeed frustrating seeing others who have heard this song and others, not heed the message, particularly if they have been around drug use...
Learn from the mistakes of others!
I agree with that
What, did you believe in the war on drugs and the possibility of a drug-free society? People will always use, we need to educate, legalize, and treat addiction as a disease, and realize people WILL experiment, no law will stop that.
