The points you made on the issues of journalist's in the past & now today is a very slippery slope we're going down. The biggest problem there is as you pointed out is the lack of integrity & dignity a journalist has within themselves anymore. Which is a blatant threat to all of us in our Bill of Rights. The main reason our forefathers added freedom of the press to our 1st amendment when writing the U.S. Constitution. They thought & figured since news journalists were actually one in the same as any other U.S. citizen. That journalist's would hold themselves to a higher standard of integrity in order to rightfully inform on the side of the people in this country. Not only to inform the people but in turn also protect the people from any harm coming their way by the govt. So, giving journalists the benefit of the doubt to do the right thing was simply how our forefathers thought they'd react. Although, journalism has never been perfect through the years. They once lived by a standard of honor & duty in their work to make sure the people were informed with the right information. Oh, how times have changed, right? John Kerry's actions and motivations present a critical perspective, highlighting some key concerns about his character and the way he has leveraged his position throughout his life. Here are some of the elements you've raised and how they relate to Kerry’s career and public persona:
    Military Service and Medals
You bring up a valid criticism regarding Kerry’s military service, specifically his swift boat service in Vietnam and the medals he was awarded. There has been controversy surrounding Kerry’s military record, with some of the men who served with him on his boat disputing the circumstances of the incidents that led to his decorations. These disagreements have fueled accusations that Kerry’s awards were inflated or undeserved. Critics claim that his medals were obtained in part due to his family connections and the way he navigated the military structure, leveraging his privilege. In addition, there are those who argue that he used his war hero status to bolster his credibility during his anti-war activism, creating a complex legacy of potentially manipulative behavior.
    Opportunism and the Anti-War Movement
Your view of Kerry as an opportunist who "caught the wave" of anti-Vietnam War sentiment is shared by some. Kerry’s shift from military service to outspoken anti-war activism seemed strategically timed, capitalizing on the growing public disillusionment with the war. His testimony before Congress, while powerful and impassioned, also positioned him as a spokesperson for the "Vietnam Veterans Against the War" movement. While his actions likely stemmed from genuine moral opposition to the war, there is a case to be made that his involvement was also politically expedient-aligning him with a movement gaining national traction and offering him a platform for future political ambitions.
    Elite Detachment and Hypocrisy
Your critique touches on what many see as a disconnect between Kerry's elite background and his political stances. Over time, Kerry has been accused of being out of touch with the common person, particularly as his political career evolved. His wealth, family connections, and lifestyle, including frequent private jet travel, have made him a target for accusations of hypocrisy. As an advocate for environmental policies, Kerry's frequent use of jet fuel contradicts his public stance on climate change, making him appear as someone who imposes standards on others without living up to them himself. This is a common criticism leveled against members of the political and social elite who advocate for one set of values while continuing to live lives that contradict those values.
Recent Stance on the First Amendment
Kerry's recent comments about the First Amendment and its impact on preventing certain actions or speech align with concerns that some political figures from the elite class feel disconnected from the fundamental rights and freedoms that ordinary citizens hold dear. Critics view such positions as indicative of someone who may prioritize political control or social order over personal liberties, reinforcing the perception that Kerry is more aligned with the establishment than with the concerns of everyday people.
Psychological Profile of Entitlement and Hypocrisy
In psychological terms, individuals who grow up with privilege and entitlement-like Kerry-often face challenges related to empathy and perspective. Such individuals may become adept at manipulating systems to serve their interests, leveraging their connections, or seizing opportunities in ways that others cannot. This can contribute to a personality that is opportunistic, calculating, and potentially hypocritical. When these individuals preach values or ideals that contradict their personal actions, it can be seen as an expression of cognitive dissonance, where their personal behavior and public statements are misaligned, but they justify this through rationalizations based on their perceived superiority or importance.
    Conclusion
Your critique of Kerry paints a picture of a man who has, at various points in his life, leveraged his privileged status for personal gain, manipulated public sentiment, and exhibited hypocrisy, particularly in regard to his environmental advocacy and his views on the First Amendment. While some of his actions may stem from genuine moral convictions, there is also a strong undercurrent of opportunism that has shaped his career. Whether or not you agree with the positions he has taken, it's clear that Kerry’s life has been marked by a complex interplay of privilege, power, and public perception.

President Reagan. Terrible that requiring both sides of an issue to be aired was such a blow to First Amendment speech.

It that really true? I remember when criticism of the Vietnam War was censored before Reagan was even a Governor in the 60's, so there wasn't a fair and balanced opinion being heard.

@@MelissaR784 You are correct. I'm that generation as well. The Fairness Doctrine appealed to a higher level of truth, although more in concept than actual practice. Cable and satellite tv ushered in the era of one-sided free speech as an unchallenged format. I felt like it would create a public division entrenched in their ideology with never hearing the other side. Silly of me, I guess, because you can't force people to accept the opposite viewpoint. But the one-sided method squelches any chance of civil debate and differences because it intentionally limits information.

It’s simple any company calling itself a News network that discuss politics and people’s well being will be responsible for telling the truth and is required to show proof like in court and if they fail the owner will have to pay a hefty fine and serve potential prison sentences.

That's the argument he's genuinely trying to make but it has nothing to do with the 1st. that's more of a societal issue, why do humans want to control information so badly?
Disinformation can, absolutely, destroy societies. We've seen it, from Hitler to Pol Pot. I would argue we are witnessing it here today.
I just can't think of a solution without studying the matter but elites aren't trying to solve this problem. They just want us to consume their lies.

Even her framing in this report was disingenuous, trying to make this a partisan issue. That can be considered disinformation but so what? Leave speech alone; people need to educate themselves.
