      Great ideas and tips on chord progressions that they are using in neo-soul right now. A great singer and vocal melody that sits right on the Harmony is a sure fire way to give me goose bumps.

    Tender surrender gets me everytime. (As it should) but not because of the key it was played in or the chords steve uses but because for me it was the straw that broke the camels back for me to learn guitar. I decided that my life wouldn't be complete with out at least an attempt on my part to create something as beautiful as it is. I feel that goosebumps come mostly (for me) through the emotions I feel because of the memory attached to the song. The only other time is if I'm watching something for the first time and it goes way above and beyond my expectations. No one I've ever met compares to my brother. He gets goosebumps for entire albums. I've watched time and time again people who he just met or new girlfriends of his turn down the A/C in the vehicle or ask if he wants a jacket because of how intense and prolonged they are. He completely avoids listening to certain songs with deep memories because he gets chest pains and tunnel vision on top of his body being enveloped in goosebumps. It's so bad that I've tried over and over again to convince him to go to doctor to get his brain scanned while listening to music. Can anyone else relate?

    This also makes sense because having EMaj, F#Maj, and BMaj in the same progression tricks your ear into changing EMaj to the tonic. So when you play E, F#, G#, B it reads: I - V/V - VI/V - V - I harmonically. So both BMaj and EMaj sound tonic depending on which chord is resonating.

    Before I say anything, I'm just gonna say that this is only my opinion and I'm not saying any of the advice is terrible. My main gripe with this is that everything is in Major without any borrowed chords. I'm a very modal kind of guy myself, as well as a fan of at least slightly untraditional scale stuff (one of my favorite guitar pieces, Oh Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel, has only the same few chords in E Major while Mangum sings in E Minor, somehow without sounding discordant). I feel like I've heard every Major progression under the sun ad nauseam.

    Another cool way to give people goosebumps with a more somber sound would be using minor add 9 chords and throwing in more dissonant intervals. A wonderful example of this would be that main clean riff from “The Call of Ktulu” by Metallica where they use an A Minor Add 9 chord with open strings and stitching between using A, E, and Eb on the bass. This kind of thing has a real chilling effect.

    Music IS win! Three ideas that can go so far! Use 4 5 6 chords in some combo. Dont start on root chord...much more potent when its "arrived at" rather a beginning point. Use the bass root note of yer 4 5 6 progression plus a one or two or so note accent on the thinner strings with each bass note. Fekin awesome! TY.

    How to give someone goosebumps with your many guitar collection?

  • @DonHaka
    @DonHaka 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I generally only get goosebumps from two things: 1. chord progressions that are unusual, different but sound really good i.e River Man by Nick Drake 2. David Gilmour's solos on the Pulse Live disc.
