This is the heart of my high school years!!! Thank you, Joe Bob!! I watched every weekend! I wish I had sent a fan letter, but I always got distracted by something.
“You know, a lot of people write me and say, ‘Hey, Joe Bob Briggs; just what is Monstervision?’ You don’t need no special glasses or an insect’s head, just a healthy love for slime and disrespect, for the dead. We’ll talk about some movies, by the ol’ double wide. When you get that creepy feeling creeping up inside, well then, you got Monstervision; it’s a heck of a fright. We’re tearing the heart out of Saturday night. These Monstervision movies serve a primitive drive, ‘cause watching people die can make you feel so alive. So, throw away your clicker now, the flicks have begun. ‘Cause there’s nothing you can do, while fully dressed, that’s as fun, as watching TNT, beneath the bug zapper light. We’re tearing the heart out of Saturday night. (Tearing the heart out of Saturday night.) Tearing the heart out of Saturday night.”
Ahhhhh this brings back such memories. The first time I ever stayed up past midnight was when I was 11 and Excalibur was on MonsterVision. My parents were always asleep by 22:00 so I'd sneak downstairs and grab a can of Diet Sprite and bowl of cool ranch Doritos and try like hell to make it through the whole double feature, sometimes having to laugh into my pillow at Joe Bob's commentary so I didn't wake the rest of the house.
I remember Monstervision started out as a monthly marathon of classic and cult horror and scifi. It was what introduced me to Ray Harryhausen. Then it became a weekly show with Joe Bob Briggs.
This is pure happiness 😊 so sad these days are long gone. My favorite nights growing up was spent with Monster Vision!!! But at least we still have Joe Bob on Shudder.
i wonder if the monster vision sale page is still up on TNT? wouldn't it be sumthn if it's still good? think i'll try it this wknd and let you know if i could buy anything.

Still watch old Monstervision recordings from the 90’s. Join Shudder and support Joe Bob with his equally excellent The Last Drive In.
