    I've recommended you 1000's of times, mainly on facebook "beginners pottery". I do this because I am fixated on your throwing Matt and want everyone possible to see you throw and listen to your tips and about your life too.
    People have been `really thankful` for the links I've sent them to your videos here on youtube. This also pleases me that I can help them become better throwers :)
    Keep em coming Matt :)

      I don’t know the exact number but it’s high. I wouldn’t doubt that it’s around that. Give or take a few thousands. Haha

    A long time has passed since I first watched this particular video, anyway I do like to watch all your videos more than once and just came upon this one as I was looking through the list.
    Your skill with the use of the rib is amazing Matt.
    Very well narrated as usual and thanks for sharing with us.

    Again, I liked the walkabout showing the number of pieces drying, the bisque pieces ready for glazing and an update on the big kiln. I'm already imagining what they are going to look like once done. Thanks. Don't fret the 'mess'. Back in the 70s I was priveledged to visit an amazing farm and in the house hung a plaque that said "Don't mind the mess, sometimes it' even worse."

    Hi mathew, this is my next challenge to make a two peice pot , i think centering the clay is a great idea, so ill try that today, !

    hi how much taller the cylinders for 3 and 6 pound you throw. and what is the final thickness of the wall of the fished piece. Thanks in advance

  • @marlyswilliams9949

    As to pulling a cylinder in three pulls, I always say “slow is pro”. It’s a phrase taught to me by a British sailing instructor to keep in mind when adjusting sails. He also taught that one should always be looking at the sail when trimming or letting out the sail. I think it applies to clay as well. Besides, your vases may well be around for thousands of years. What’s wrong with taking some time with the process.

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good analogy. Quality is a huge priority for me and my work but also slowing down sometimes helps the whole process be a little easier. Now a high quantity of high quality, that’s the best of both worlds. Haha

    what do you prefer square or round bats? Is there any difference besides space saver in the square version?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use square for space saving and just about anything I make 3lbs and under unless it has a wide base. Not advantage to either other than space saving.

    Hello . Are you self taught and did you attend Art school or both ? You are gifted and I love the way you take your time when you throw to meld with the clay . Do you have to throw thicker walls on doing it in 2 pieces?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My schooling in pottery started in high school and then working at several pottery shops. No formal schooling but self taught and learned from several other great potters.

      No these bottoms are dried some before adding the top making it so they don’t have to be thick to support the second piece.

    centering the clay in two pieces ,was what i meant to say in previous comment

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured that’s what you meant. That technique definitely helps. I have a video titled “sectional vases” that explains the second step that I will take with the bottoms in this video.
