All 3 Ape Escape games where simply great, and knowing that Shuhei Yoshida and possibly the devs had the most fun working with this game just makes it that much better. I'm hopeful for a 4rth installment!
With Super Mario Odyssey coming out, Sony really needs a NEW platformer to compete (Crash Bandicoot is an HD Remake) and Knack 2 isn't gonna win anybody. Give us a new Ape Escape Sony!!!
Yooka Laylee was different because it was a kickstarter project with no big name baddie involved to tell them what direction to take it in. Sony clearly cares about platformers still it just all depends on the right studio to make them is all.
Love the Ape Escape Series, with my first one being AE1, then AE3, and then AE2, and I enjoy every single game in the trilogy. The first one will always be my favorite though.
Ape Escape was one of my favorite childhood games, I played that game so many times and even the soundtrack is extremely good, I've been waiting so long for a new Ape Escape game. I still have my copy from when I was around 10 years old, 21 atm.
Ape Escape one is still one of my favorite games, it has such a dope soundtrack and style. The 2nd and 3rd games are serviceable but just don't feel as good as the first.
I never played the second, but the Third game is still fantastic imo, but yes Nostalgia and the soudntrack are what sell the first game so well, even today.
Did you also know? On Ape escape 2 if you watch the pink monkey’s song, the background would change color depending on the condition of the disk. Pink: good condition. Yellow: fair Red: poor
This game is just gold.. the maps.. and every music in. They should remake the ps1 version and add map editor/online so it would have alot of players to speedrun
I would kill for an Ape Escape Remake Trilogy. And a Gex Remake Trilogy And a Croc remake collection And a Banjo-Kazooie remake collection #BringOurBoysBack
OMG! I wasn't even sure this game existed. I played it when I was really little and sort of remembered a game on PS2 where your goal was to capture monkeys. The only reason I remember is because until I played it I didn't know the L3 and R3 buttons existed.
I love the Ape Escape series from one to three, and enjoy the game mostly for the unique storyline and amusing scenes . I also enjoy Mr. Terada immensely for his contribution to the soundtrack as I love many if not all songs featured in the games. I continue to see humor in defeating Snake in the Mesal Gear Solid feature, as if I remember correctly the player can throw a bomb at Snake. I am disappointed the game is not popular enough to receive both recognition and praise.
EVERYTHING about Ape Escape brought me so much joy as a kid. The gameplay, the characters, the art style, the SOUNDTRACK (still listen to a lot of that beautiful soundtrack) Just pure, undiluted fun that you don't see as often nowadays. The Ape Escape games never really took off the way they should've after the first game, although I very much enjoyed the second and third games. And I hate that the first game was never released on PSN. Ape Escape deserves to come back.
i would never think "begging work" on something at the start of a year should equal "its done before next year". i dont know the normal development times for games in japan, but im sure 1 year isnt near enough if they are trying to make a good game. if they are for real working on a new, non-spinoff, Ape Escape then we will probably hear something by the end of this year or sometime next year. i do hope they ever make another one, i got pulled in at AE3 (and Pumped and Primed) and i feel like i jumped on that band wagon way too late.
Love learning about obscure facts/references about one of my favorite game series. I used to play 1 and 3 all the time, but I don't have the right consoles to play them anymore, sadly.
OHMYGOSHTHANKYOUSOMUCHFORMAKINGTHISVIDEO!!!! Ape Escape 1 is my favorite video game of all time and I love the entire series so much!! I never thought I would see a DidYouKnowGaming episode on it and I'm just sad I couldn't host it. But whatever, that was great and hopefully this will get more people to play Ape Escape. If anyone who hasn't played Ape Escape is reading this: GO PLAY APE ESCAPE!!! It is an absolutely fantastic series that deserves your attention! None of the game are too expensive and you can get Ape Escape 2 on your PS4 for 10 bucks. It is great! You will love it! And thanks again, DidYouKnowGaming! Keep up the great work!!
I was wondering why you guys hadn't done a video on Ape Escape yet. I was worried it was because there wasn't any good trivia for it. Glad I was wrong! A little surprised that you didn't bring up the seperate English dubs for different regions. Would have been fun to see a direct comparison with the dialogue.
I remember playing the demo. Up to this point, I never used the sticks, always played with the d-pad. It was really hard to use them starting with this game.
On the references section, there's an anime called Great Teacher Onizuka (old one) where they play the game at least in two different chapters. It's amazing nostalgia :') .
I remember having the playstation underground demo disc with ape escape on it and getting extremely frustrated that I couldn't run around at all since I didn't have a dualshock controller.
I own Ape Escape 1 buy I played Escape 2 and miss that game. Never played the 3rd. Btw a lot of the voices of the 2nd game had the same actors from Pokémon anime.
This game is such an amazing game playing on the PS1 that it even surpasses crash bandicoot and needs a whole remaster of its own and a sequel that follows the same character's style and spike onto a new ape escape 2 game tbh. Or Ape Escape 4 that goes back to the original story and characters
I didn't know anyone who played it growing up. I actually thought ape escape was a hidden gem since nobody around me played it. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized it was much bigger than I thought.
I miss this franchise so much.
Me too,so much nostalgia.
Same here, the music and level design and the cheeky Monkeys were just so new and refreshing for a more whacky game....so much seriousness nowadays
Well with the announcement of the PlayStation 5, who knows? We might get either ape Escape remakes or ape escape 4.
Me too man but more than you and more ythan the others too!
I'd love a remastered trilogy, or at least all three games put up on the PlayStation store (I think only 2 is up there right now)
Ape Escape, the game that taught you the analog sticks had buttons inside of them.
I remember sitting there as a kid like, "L3 to Dive? Where's L3?!"
Haha xD
All 3 Ape Escape games where simply great, and knowing that Shuhei Yoshida and possibly the devs had the most fun working with this game just makes it that much better. I'm hopeful for a 4rth installment!
He also worked on legend of dragoon so that gives us both something in common
Did you know? Ape Escape 4 is sitll something I've wanted for years....
I'd settle for a remake of the original 3 like the N. Sane trilogy if we can't get a 4
Reboot
Soichi Terada is a bloody genius! If Ape Escape 4 is ever a thing, get him to compose for the game!
TeckGeck amen!
Hell Yeah dude, the best Video Game Composer of all time in my opinion.
Yo ft
Cool. I was actually playing Ape Escape again earlier today. It's my favorite PS1 game I've played so far.
Talon's Electronics Really? I thought Sony said people don't play old video games anymore...
I play Ape Escape on the PCSXR emulator sometimes
Javier Molina not at the cost of new games
I just replayed it on ps5 haha
With Super Mario Odyssey coming out, Sony really needs a NEW platformer to compete (Crash Bandicoot is an HD Remake) and Knack 2 isn't gonna win anybody. Give us a new Ape Escape Sony!!!
Dave Lee Sony and Microsoft consumers do not care about platforms anymore just look how shit yooka laylee was
Dave Lee Ehh Knack 1 was good it just had shitty Checkpoints...
Speak for yourself, dude. I love the LittleBigPlanet series and would love a new platformer from Sony.
Yooka Laylee was different because it was a kickstarter project with no big name baddie involved to tell them what direction to take it in.
Sony clearly cares about platformers still it just all depends on the right studio to make them is all.
There was the Ratchet and Clank reboot I think last year. It was pretty good!
One of the best playstation one exclusives ever !
Couldn't have clicked any faster. Still holding out that one day this series gets and HD collection or the revival it desperately deserves.
Love the Ape Escape Series, with my first one being AE1, then AE3, and then AE2, and I enjoy every single game in the trilogy. The first one will always be my favorite though.
Quite possibly the greatest unknown playstation game of all time
Pretty sure Kei's Cyber Ace form is just based on Japanese superheroes in general while Yumi's is a direct reference to Pretty Cure...
Ape Escape was one of my favorite childhood games, I played that game so many times and even the soundtrack is extremely good, I've been waiting so long for a new Ape Escape game. I still have my copy from when I was around 10 years old, 21 atm.
I LOVE this game's music. And this game is so nostalgic, along with Spyro. Ugh, miss being 4
The creativity of this game was amazing
Ape Escape one is still one of my favorite games, it has such a dope soundtrack and style. The 2nd and 3rd games are serviceable but just don't feel as good as the first.
I never played the second, but the Third game is still fantastic imo, but yes Nostalgia and the soudntrack are what sell the first game so well, even today.
Did you know?
Solid Ape from Metal Gear Solid 3 is the true Big Boss? Naked Snake and Phantom Snake were his puppets all along...
One of my favorite childhood games, now an episode of my favorite show. Thanks, DYKG!
The first Ape Escape will always be special to me. It was my first PS1 game and I had so much fun with it.
My first PlayStation game. 6 year old me was not disappointed
I guess we had the same childhood. This was the first PlayStation game i bought with my own money as a six year old
Japan banned dancing? Foot Roose?
Tarl Palmer Evurybody come Evurybody come footroose!
so fucking funny
Tarl Palmer ROR (Raff out roud)!!!
Tarl Palmer I laughed too hard at this
He said after WWII, so it could of happened during the American occupation of the country.
Did you also know? On Ape escape 2 if you watch the pink monkey’s song, the background would change color depending on the condition of the disk. Pink: good condition.
Yellow: fair
Red: poor
Love how Soichi Terada got a little appearance here, he makes great music!
This game is just gold.. the maps.. and every music in. They should remake the ps1 version and add map editor/online so it would have alot of players to speedrun
I don't know why this wasn't more popular.
I have literally been waiting for this video for years
3:23 Cratman? Whaat? I almost thought he said crapman!
I was sure he say Crapman
There was a Playstation at my dentist and they had this game in the office. That's why I know about this game and it brings back nostalgia
I would kill for an Ape Escape Remake Trilogy.
And a Gex Remake Trilogy
And a Croc remake collection
And a Banjo-Kazooie remake collection
#BringOurBoysBack
This was my shit back in the day. I swear, this is one of my favorite games from all time. The music is brings back a lot of memories.
been waiting on Ape Escape 4 🙃 seems like it's been forever since I played the game. It's so unique and memorable
First dual shock controller I got was when I bought this game brand new back on our PS1, so many happy hours never knew they released more.
Speaking of those japan only spin offs, they could have an episode in Region Locked.
Sniff They definitely should do that.
OMG! I wasn't even sure this game existed. I played it when I was really little and sort of remembered a game on PS2 where your goal was to capture monkeys. The only reason I remember is because until I played it I didn't know the L3 and R3 buttons existed.

Dan Green is not saying "It's time to duel." in this scene.
(ding!)

Man this was a fun game
Ape Escape is the reason I got into gaming. So many memories with the first three.
Parappa The Rapper Remaster: Check
Wipeout Remasters: Check
Crash Bandicoot Remasters: Check
New Ape Escape Game And/Or Remaster: *GET ON IT SONY*
*YESSS!* Thank you for this! My most beloved franchise but so overlooked and hardly anyone talks about it...😢😢😢
I'm surprised they didn't comment on how the actors of Ash and Misty voiced characters in this series.
Lou12 Caddicus mentioned that in the History of Ape Escape video.
I've been waiting for this day
I'm so young that the only console I ever played with that had only one analog stick was the 3DS
OHMYGOSHTHANKYOUSOMUCHFORMAKINGTHISVIDEO!!!! Ape Escape 1 is my favorite video game of all time and I love the entire series so much!! Ape Escape for PSOne is SOOO GOOD. It inspired me a lot over the years. I never found copies of Ape Escape 2 or any of the other games as a kid.
The Soichi Terada track that was playing from Sumo Jungle was "Grand Senshuuraku"
The first Ape Escape game I played was Ape Escape Pumped and Primed, and it was fun as hell.
I first played this game on a demo disc that contained a few other games. Instantly fell in love
i remember having the demo disc for this game but no dual shock controller so i just sat there and now the 1st level music is etched into my brain
Did you know gaming? Parappa the rapper
Ah, the very first video game I ever played!
The large electric catfish in the jungle level scared the crap out of me when I played this as a kid.
Ah, so many great memories playing this game. 🥲
Ape Escape! My favorite video game series!
I adored the first game when I was a kid. So much fun!
I remember playing the demo. Up to this point, I never used the sticks, always played with the d-pad. It was really hard to use them starting with this game.
Did You Know Gaming? - Sly Cooper
This is such a fun series. We need more of it, honestly XD
On the references section, there's an anime called Great Teacher Onizuka (old one) where they play the game at least in two different chapters. It's amazing nostalgia :')
.
the nostalgia is overflowing
Shuhei Yoshida's favourite game to work on?
My hero.
Never knew about the Solid Snake and Ape Escape crossover. That's pretty damn cool.
Thank you so much for this video, I had hoped for this one for good amount of time.
I've been waiting for this since I subscribed to this channel thank you !!!!
Yes ! Ape Escape ! Just recently I started re-playing this on the original PS1
I literally heard this game yesterday and theres so many references!
The only way to escape...
*I S T O A P E*
Everyone here needs to play at least Ape Escape 1 and 3. 2 is okay but those two are the best ones in the series
A ban on dancing...
Bancing?
That South Park fact was MEGA COOL!!!
4:52 I love the theme of eversummer island
About time we got one of Ape Escape.
I really want an Ape Escape 4 and knowing they were hiring at one point is saddening.
0:30 "duelshock"?
hmm... guess I aways wrote that wrong
THANK YOU DYKG!!!
For showing me Soichi Terada music i'm in love with it
Any mention of Ape Escape reminds me of Caddicarus "singing" the opening song. Dear god I can't forget than scream-singing lmao
ARMS next?
This game was my childhood...and MGS1 :D
Thanks for reminding me monster rancher was a thing. Now am sad the series is over.
Loved the video! Super informational!
This was my childhood 😭 well at least a part of it
The 3rd game is one of my all time favorite games
I have one question about ape escape, how powerfull is the magic punch?
I have my 2D Sonic & Crash Bandicoot Remasters, all i need is my Ape Escape remake/reboot
It would be neat if they made the 4 playable characters of the trilogy playable in the same game.
This game is such an amazing game playing on the PS1 that it even surpasses crash bandicoot and needs a whole remaster of its own and a sequel that follows the same character's style and spike onto a new ape escape 2 game tbh. Or Ape Escape 4 that goes back to the original story and characters
Good times. Such a fun series.
RIP to the studio who made ape escape
Ape Escape was the shit. The first game is one of my favorites ever, and it was also one of the first games I achieved 100% completion with.
At E3 2016 sony conference they played a orchestra music of the final stage of ape escape 3 during the conference
This was one of the 1st PS1 games I had ever played.
The way this video ended... My word... I don't think I've ever heard anything informal come out of Did You Know Gaming?
I played the 1st Ape Escape game on my original Playstation. I never knew there was a large franchise.
I didn't know anyone who played it growing up. I actually thought ape escape was a hidden gem since nobody around me played it. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized it was much bigger than I thought.
Ahhh My favorite platforming series.
