    Nice design, it can also be built using DOWEL to support the table (elsewhere on YT) and the table just slides onto the dowel. If you can cut a groove in that wall the table top thickness, the table can slide into it and be well supported for road shocks while driving.

    Great job and innovative idea. Maybe move the wires over a couple of inches where the table hits?

    Thank you, I love your wonderful tutorial and calm demeanor, Tim. :) I'm researching how best to repurpose a drafting table into one of these. It has a black hollow metal curved base with same material legs all mounted together in sections. It also has 1 smaller, 1 larger, melamine table tops that I also hope to use. Has anyone else done something similar?

    Tim.. I made the exact same thing.. but I used a 1” pipe so I could put it in a PVC pipe to hold it in place.. I used a pipe bracket to hold the pvc in place!

    Can you remove the pipe so you can place the table between the benches to make a bigger bed? I’m going to do this and I think I could just use a pipe to go the height of the bench and then screw a shorter pipe into that for table height, then the arm then the flange

    Timothy, I'm inspired by this and plan to do it in my bus conversion! Can you tell me how the mount attaches to the floor? I might use something attached to my couch so I can just pull the table leg out completely, but I'd like to know what you did.

    you got the idea from 'alternatives', they were inspired by the laguuun, who i'm sure blatantly copied the idea from 1960's hospital bedside tables we used to have in old hospitals in england, an no doubt many other countries

    Always hoping to see a wiggle test for these tables ... for the 'tight' position, and the 'loose' position. How much play is there when you put a full pot (5lbs?) on the corner? (for both positions)

    Hi Tim. I came across your video while researching alternatives to the Lagun bracket set up. I agree, the Lagun is great, but on the pricey side so right off, I like the way you think. Creativity is key to living well on the road - or anywhere. lol
    If I understand correctly, the top connection (just under the table top) allows turning of the table by the threading in that joint. Would that wear with heavy usage or continued movement? I wonder if there would be a way to make that top part swivel by putting it on a lazy-Susan kind of thing under the table? I'm working on a test run of this idea by building a table like this for the side of my recliner before we try one for the RV, which I hope to be living in full time for part of the year. Both would get daily use as dining table/craft surface and laptop/writing desk. As a way to make the table sloped, I'm thinking a double layered table surface that can have one side raised to give a tipped surface - that would be more comfortable when sitting in a reclined position.

    Great job. As someone I admire says, "It is not how much money you make that counts the most; it is how you use it." Wishing the best for you and yours. Could you tell me what type of drill bit you have had success with for drilling through the metal ( say the ribs) of your van (s)? I have an old, 2008 Chevy Express. Great job on the table. Take care.

    • @Torin_by_the_Ocean

      Use bits intended for metal. If it's a big hole , I start small and move up in size. ☺

    • @noahbell7767
      @noahbell7767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the spyder brand at Lowe’s. They’re pretty good and drill through easily. If you need to make holes large any hole saw would work. Also I have found drilling a small hole and then using a step bit works great. I had to use a step bit to drill the holes for my diesel heater and also on steel rims for a car

    For painting all your metal surfaces:
    -use tar and silicone remover to clean surface,
    -sand out any rust and chemically treat with rust converter (as necessary): CAUTION: harsh chemical but it works great! Do NOT get it on painted surfaces! Where PPE! Wash it off with water after 10 mins when the rust turns colour. Dry immediately.
    -sand and/or use one coat of etching primer,
    -paint with single stage enamel starting with a light dust coat.
    Your paint will stick.
    Cheers!

      @Torin_by_the_Ocean  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks but I'd rather have paint chip than use harsh chemicals in my van ☺

    • @jamesglasbergen7506
      @jamesglasbergen7506 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Torin_by_the_Ocean yeah i hear you. I would not suggest painting that inside anyways.

    • @jamesglasbergen7506
      @jamesglasbergen7506 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also you wouldn't need rust converter for your table stand anyways. Etching primer is only recommended for bare metal surfaces. It chemically etches the metal for a very strong bonding surface.

    He is so full of it saying Lagun table mounts sell around $400. (either CD or USD); either way they actually sell for from $150. USD to $260. USD. Not sure what he is trying to accomplish by lying like that.
