This was my plan b for my staircase after I realized the carpet I took off had damaged the wood so it took the stain differently. My SE store recommended their porch and floor enamel. Did you consider that and if so what made you choose the tread plex? Did you apply a poly after the marine coats?
We saw someone else use the treadplex on multiple projects! We used that paint, did not poly, it’s been 2.5 years and it’s held up amazing. Would definitely use that paint again
Thank you for this video. I hired a professional who did a terrible job. I've been searching on TH-cam so i can try and do it myself. After watching this video, I'm convinced that I'm going to mess it up😂. Great video, though
Amazing! this has been such a head ache for me. I've come back and rewatched your video a few times. Why tread then riser vs riser then tread? How is the paint holding up? Any tips to measure and cut landing type steps/spots. I have 6 steps that are not regular rectangles. Have you noticed a creaking anywhere? any tips to avoid squeaks creaks?
The order you install them is preference, we decided to do tread first for our workflow. The paint is holding up excellent and it’s been over 2 years since we painted. For the landing, we made cardboard cuts out to test fit pieces and used that as a template for the wood. No creaking at all, make sure you’re using a lot of glue when you set them into place to avoid creaking!
i think the final print for the frame you chose was a very good idea. it's moody, has a little orange for that warmth you were talking about, and the rain gives it that very moody Chicago feel. also, the stairs turned out beautiful.
It’s been a few years and the paint has held up beautifully! We have a few nicks here and there but it’s from hitting stuff into the stair railing, not from everyday wear
Please share details about the paint colors on walls, staircase, trim - thank you!
It’s linked in the description!

By the way it’s beautiful and I’ve become obsessed with your videos!

@@melaniebonner847thank you!! Welcome!! ❤❤
What kind of treads did you use. I have smaller steps and I can’t find ones that fit perfectly with my stairs
We used pine treads from Home Depot - link in the description to blog post with all of the details
This turned out so beautifully. Well done! Definitely inspired to do my own
Thank you! It’s held up so well too
@@thelksaddress exactly what I was going to ask a year and change later! good to know that the marine paint with oil based primer was a good combo!

You can do it! This was our first big project ever
What is the equivalent of SW in the U.K.? I have black gloss on mine and I hate it lol

Awesome teamwork 💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✌🏼🫶🏼🙋🏼♀️
Thank you! 🖤🖤
Did you re-do the bottom rounded step? I didnt see this addressed on the video.
It was already wood so we just painted it.
Nice work ! I was going to paint the stringers white , any ideas white vs black ?
We obviously did them black but we’ve considered them painting them white now 😅 so I’d say if you were leaning towards white, go for it!
How did you patch over nail holes in treads and risers? Wood putty or caulk or something else?
Wood putty!
Very well done. The before and after is amazing!
Thank you so much Chad!
totally unrelated: Where did you get the storage solution for your shoes that is so cute!!! those leather storage bins are too cute!
They’re from target!
Where are the shoe storage bins?
How has your paint held up on the treads? Cheers

Did you all use any polyurethane after u painted the stairs to help seal the black paint? And if so did u sand in between each coats of poly
Gorgeous 🎉
Thank you! 😊
Looks so good
Thank you!!
