I discovered Wes Anderson style thanks to the pandemic... I saw before The Tenenbaums and also The Grand Budapest Hotel, loved them both but when I saw Moonrise Kingdom I couldn't stop seeing it again and again! The colours, the island, the instruments, the kids, the unique actors and so and so, all enthralling and perfectly matched together. And then I saw The Isle of Dogs... Well, Mr. Wes, you are a great soul with an exceptional intelligence! You became my absolut favourite movie maker, I can't wait to see your last one!

Working our way through them all but haven't yet seen the Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs movies (we were not really into animal films nor animations, but, because it's Wes.... we will HAVE to see these movies very soon, and I'm certain we will love them). We are watching The French Dispatch again tonight to try to get more of the detail because some of it went whizzing past our heads - but, we just love LOOKING at these films, the pacing, editing, music. The first Wes Anderson film I saw was "Life Aquatic" and I thought 'I have no idea why people think this guy is in the top 5' but I did not give up on him. If you are new to Wes Anderson don't watch "Life Aquatic" or at least don't judge him by that film. And if you are only going to see only one Wes Anderson film it should be this one, "French Dispatch."

I think the only films I didn't care for by Wes Anderson were Isle of Dogs and Fantastic Mr. Fox... more so the first one I mentioned. My favorites would be The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom. I have to rank The French Dispatch 3rd but it used to be a toss up between Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. I think I appreciate his films more now that I have experienced different forms of storytelling in cinema than I did when I started getting into him when I was younger. Particular with the set up of The French Dispatch, I consider this his most literary work because it really is a love letter to storytelling. It felt more like a book than a movie.

Interesting thought and not having watched the film but understanding what I have heard about the French dispatch and screenwriting it’s seems that the plot and stories which are multiple, is hard to write. The idea of tenet maybe harder to write to an extent but since the story and plot are masked by high concept events explaining his world. I think every screen writer has a different mission for each film I believe Christopher Nolan was obviously trying to hide the true nature and plot of tenet

@@GREENLIGHTFILMMAKING Loved it ! But fair bit of warning, the movie is shot 90%-95% in 4:3 aspect ratio ( squarish ) so dont watch it on a laptop or mobile phone. Use the largest display at your disposal. Domestically TV is the best.
Im not sure however if Dolby Video and Audio were supported on TH-cam movies, Apple TV movies do. So if you have a smart OLED recommend buying this movie on Apple TV to TH-cam.

I feel bad for these actors , they must have been STARVED to play in something decent for a while . there's not a lot of opportunities like this for them nowadays .
I doubt playing in highly paid Marvel movies and what not is what satisfies them intellectually, filling one's pockets is not the sole job of an actor . Sometimes they need to play in movies like this to feel like their acting is put to good use .
it hit me when Fisher Stevens said : 3:13 .

I’ve figured it out, Wes Anderson is the Woody Allen of today.

I'm sooooo disappointed to write this - but I really didn't like the movie! I liked some of it, I get the Wes style and ambience and I am a total Francophile. I thought this would be a treat but each story dragged on too long to the point where I just didn't care about them anymore. Tilda's amazing - but her speech should have been half the length. Frances McDormand is one of my favorites - but the student demonstrations were too obscure and academic. And a story on prison food that morphs into a kidnapping? A waste of Jeffrey Wright's talents. The style was classic Wes and I love all the actors, but this was like The Life Aquatic on speed. My head hurt after 2 long hours in the chair.....sorry

I’m sorry to hear that but I really appreciate the honesty and your opinion as well as still staying positive about Wes Anderson. I quite agree but I am looking forward to checking out the film for myself.
