Log Horizon is like... 3 parts slice of life, 3 parts politics, 3 parts existential horror/philosophy/human psychology, and 1 part action (but the action is pretty fucking epic). Definitely one I would recommend, but not if you're just into dark action.

Log Horizon was one of my favorite shows, because it covered the tropes of ISEKAI anime with the reality of Religious/Political/Governmental pressure. It was a slow burn, but very detail-oriented. I'd like to think I would pick this game out of all of the MMO-based games to play in all the anime based on MMOs.

Meh, they tried to insert realistic topics but the characters didn't act like real people.
And slow burn? OMG it is more than that. Seasson 1 was great but Seasson 2 was too slow, and seasson 3 ... omg, that was extreme. I couldn't even finish it. In seasson 3 you don't care about half of the characters and most of the plots are so boring that I think they deserve a record. Most boring seasson ever in a tv show.

While there are many videogame isekai anime, Log Horizon was unique (at the time) because of how much depth it went into establishing realistic MMORPG elements.
In other shows, the elements are already set-up and the focus is more on seeing how things differed. While this does mean the show's pacing is slower due to the focus on politics and trading, the show also has good action moments.
Edit: As for more openings to check out, I can recommend "Hello World" and "Fake Town Baby"- the openings for Kekkai Sensen Season 1 and 2

Log horizon is a pretty unique take on the isekai trope, basically the first day after an update to an mmo the players ended up getting transported into the game world as their game characters and now must cope with the new reality
What sets it apart from others of the same genre is that it delves into the logistic of how this work, the game world didn’t just came to life but that it’s actually reality itself and in-universe someone brought up the question of whether they they got transported into the game and it became reality or were they transported into another reality that just so happens to match the game’s setting as their characters instead because the players arnet inhabitants of the world but still adhere to the original game mechanics since if they die they’ll revive at a spawn point which the actual inhabitants of the world (previously npc now sentient human beings) cannot do the same and view said players as immortal monsters, buildings cannot be destroyed in game as you can’t interact with it like that but as reality it’s simply protected and while you can deposits and withdraw in-game currency from the game’s bank it doesn’t work like or offer any other service an actual bank would in real life and after becoming reality this is explained as an ancient contract/agreement
It’s a very interesting take on the genre but at the same time it’s also why its hasn’t really exploded in popularity after its initial stint, the series focus more on world building and the logistic of things meant there wasn’t too much of a focus on the character themselves outside of certain arcs and was an excuse for mediocre/average animation overall aside from the budget put into the openings, there also too much going on without balance like multiple plot threads happening at the same time and depending on who you ask the the series itself can be considered rather boring too, it’s a fairly enjoyable slow burn of a series but one that is more attuned to being a niche instead

When he asked what is this anime about did anyone else screamed "POLITICS!!!"?

  • @nitesabes220
    @nitesabes220 2 ปีที่แล้ว +234

Log horizon is actually a pretty lighthearted series with horribly dark implications if you think about the things that happen a bit more carefully.
Also yes the endings are fucking great but they are more calm type of songs.
It is also more of a "political" intrigue type of show, as in it focuses more on the interactions between characters, factions and the world. It has action in it but it is by no means the focus of the show.
    Synopsis of the show:
The players of a very popular mmo suddenly find themselves inside the bodies of their characters on the day a new expansion comes out.
    edit: spelling.

Said MMO is basically Runescape, NOT a VRMMO like all the others. Also, I live how the characters are all basically immortal, and the story deals explores what the implications of that would be, a bunch of nearly immortal advanced beings suddenly appear in the world, how would that shape politics, cultures, and technology. The series has so much depth.

I love the season 1 and 2 of this anime. The politics in this was quite hard for me to follow but the fight scenes were so epic! If you're a gamer, you might like this anime as it shows the mentality of a pro gamer and how gamers united to achieve a major mission in the game.

3rd season is nothing like 1 and 2, it's more focused on politics and side characters, which makes the story flow pretty... "butchered".
It ends with an epic battle and more lore dropping, with some stuff foreshadowing, but nothing solid, in my opinion.
I'd honestly wait for the season 4 to watch them together, cuz season 3 doesn't feels "whole".

Buuut then I forgot about it for awhile and occasionally remember about it but I always hold off from watching it because of life reasons and forgot about it again.
But if that's the case, then I think I will hold off from watching it again to not be disappointed then and just wait for season 4... If there is a season 4. I will just keep the season 1 and 2 of this anime as the fond memories in my mind.

The best way to describe this show (without spoilers) is to say it is probably one of the most realistic isekai (transported to another world) series ever made. The main group find themselves transported into their virtual MMORPG with a new update and have to figure things out. I know you like more adult oriented shows, so this one may be to your liking. That said, it isn't as graphic as something like AoT for instance as the adult element mainly comes in the form of extensive world building, diplomacy and politicking and such.
While on the note of more 18+ rated good quality anime, I recommend Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions both fo op and actual reaction to the whole series, along with Kokkoku mainly for the op which is amazing even without context.

    • @RenderingUser

    • @vallergergo737

@@RenderingUser That's fair although there is a distinction since LH is a video-game world come alive, and growing into a whole new thing before our eyes, whereas the other two are fantasy worlds built from the ground up. Log Horizon is great, most complaints I've heard from people that have watched it is they struggle with some of the politic, and economic headgames involved because that isn't something that interests them but given you like Game of Thrones its right in your wheelhouse. I need to comment something, Man with a Mission actually has been in the Knot Fest host by Slip Knot... IN THE USA for quite a while and a lot of times... So yeah, the musical genre fans knew about them way before many anime fans in a plot twist. Also my sister worked as security in the fest and told me they are so nice and that explain while they are common guests at the Fest. (Slip Knot is like peak standard for really kind artists)

Log Horizon is one of the best intrigue based animes ever. It has detailed world building and fairly light hearted until you begin to realize the ramifications of what is going on. Suddenly everything becomes so much darker and sinister and you can really begin to appreciate the amount of pressure the main characters are under.

Log Horizon isn't really a "dark" anime (or at least no majorly), but it IS a serious anime. I 100% recommend it.
Also, Madoka Magicka is dope af but... Well, you know what, I'll let you figure it out yourself ^^ (check the ending, "Magia" by Kalafina, it's an absolute banger)

Because the entire Genre of Magical Girl that Sailor Moon is in is a rather light hearted, happy, power of friendship kinda thing.
Which Madoka Magicka tries to be... for the first couple episodes, before the genre shift.
When it first came out, the end of episode 3 blew people's minds because they were NOT expecting it.

The first opening was sung by a band called Man With A Mission. One of my favorite bands. You should definitely check out their other songs. They are bangers. Their songs are used in other anime like Vinland Saga op 2, Inuyashiki, Mobile Suit Gundam.... Great video as always ❤‍🔥

The first one was done by a band called Man with a mission. 2 members were born and raised in San Francisco, California, and went over to Japan to form their band. So a lot of their music is a mix of Japanese and English. They have some great songs.

The first reaction to me is more like "first time reacting to Man With A Mission" xD their opening songs and songs in general are just top notch and they are so fun and crazy when live on stages.
Also, though ti's not a MWAM song, I recommend to you the opening of Drifters. This anime has gone so unknown and underestimated, but you get the epicness of it right from the opening

You would probably enjoy Log Horizon.
Basically the people find themselves in the game world as their MMO characters (those who were online when the expac went live).
While on the surface level it seems more lighthearted and "casual" (well, they are in their MMos world), there are some pretty dark implications in the dialogue.
And I also like how some people in the show just go for things, so they can find out more about their situation.

SInce you mentioned the Opening of Madoka Magica, I'll say taht if you do it, you ALSO have to do the Ending to accompany it.
The Opening shows the first impression the anime can give, and the Ending shows how things really are.
As for my recommendation this time:
    Durarara.
Durarara is a damn blast from beginning to end, I frigging love that Anime XD.
It has various seasons so it also has various Openings, so reacting to them could be a bit long, but I recommend it XD.

I also feel like, based on this, you'd enjoy the first op, "Kaen," from Dororo - and oh yes absolutely the ending song to Madoka Magica (I think it's called Magia) would be right up your alley as well, so if you do Madoka Magica, I highly recommend doing the eds at the same time

Yep, 6 years after the second season, our Maids themselves have set the intro to the third season to music. And Saiki's first words 'Let's go, it's showtime' couldn't be more fitting! Controlled 'chaos' from the first to the last second. :) (Don't say we didn't warn you! 🤭)
But while we're on the subject of 'anime intros', and you've already been introduced to the intro of 'Tokyo Ghoul' by TK quite some time ago, why not take the opportunity to check out another pretty awesome band who covered this very track 'Unravel'? I'm talking about the band 'Asterism', who specialize in metal instrumentals. 3 young musicians with tons of talent (which is still an understatement) who have already melted quite a lot of circuits in different heads with their songs and performances. I recommend making it a 2in1, consisting of the official MV and the recently released version, in which they got vocal support from the Norwegian singer 'Pellek'. Believe me, it's worth it! :)
