The biggest problem with Rolex is not their watches, but their brand, which appears to have become somewhat tainted in recent years. Rolex is basically the luxury watch brand for people who know nothing about watches, and this combined with the reticence to sell to "normal" walk in customers has led to an inordinate amount of fakes flooding the market. It's got to the stage where when I see somebody wearing a Rolex I assume it's fake, and that's especially true when the watch on their wrist is technically worth more than their car. Currently I see Rolex in a kind of similar situation to where Burberry in the UK was back in the early '00s - made popular by footballers and as a result the fake stuff was bought en masse by their fans cheapening the brand to crisis levels.
to be fair, the price of gold has gone up a LOT, like 27% over the past year, yet Rolex gold pieces havne't gone up by much. Since ADs buy it in at 60% of the retail price, Rolex is maybe only getting $24k for a gold watch, but the gold material itself is already $14k.
Close estimate. Chrono Sky did a 2020 analysis of a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date 40, reference number 228238 and found it to contain 178.3g of 18k gold or 133.7g of pure gold, about $11,185.92 on 20 Dec 2024. Doing your 60% math and some guessing (in USD), say a Day-Date 40 movement costs around the same as a basic Datejust 41 ($8050) = $4830 (probably 1/2 that but it doesn't matter). So the gold + the movement costs Rolex about (11,186+4830) $16,016. Forging and finishing costs plus a little [grin] profit ($24k - $16k) equals around $8k.
@ well that will depend on which Rolex. A day date 40 has nearly 6 ounces of 18k gold, which is about 4.5 ounces of pure gold. A deep sea or a sky dweller would have 5 ounces, but they are more expensive to begin with
My experience has been different than most. I bought 2 watches this year from 2 different ADs. A 40mm Yatchmaster and a two tone Sky-Dweller. Call it luck or playing my cards right. I feel that although the system does not make much sense, its not ironclad. Obviously the watches are being produced and sold, because they are readily available in the grey market. So, I feel Rolex must have more consistency in how the control the AD's, and stop the backdoor sales to the independent dealers which afterwards butcher the customers with their prices. I am a collector, not a flipper, I have no interest in selling any of my watches, Rolex, or otherwise, the reason I bought them in the first place is to have them and enjoy them.....there are easier ways to make money rather than flipping watches. I feel greed is an endemic part of the whole system. Until that is controlled, there will be unfair practices across the board by the ADs, flippers, independent dealers, and us, the clients.
Just bought a 37 year old Air King Date. Love the 34mm size, the acrylic crystal and it's being fully serviced. And also bought an 80 year old Omega field watch that runs incredibly well and has awesome patina on the case and dial. Both were less than a new OP.
Hearing about Rolex AD's is hard for me to believe! I am not saying it's not happening, but where I am at, there is still nothing for sale. Everything is exhibition only. The story must be very different in other parts of the world.
For a long time the Omega Aqua Terra in full gold has been significantly more expensive than the full gold submariner. And less gold. I could never get my head round that.
Omega does not hold its value like a Rolex or do they have the brand equity. That's why they had to 'buy' their way into the James Bond 007 franchise. Bond wore a Rolex Submariner in Ian Fleming's books and in the early movies with Sean Connery.

The two tones sub are now under retail price if you buy from resellers. In December I entered an AD and they told me they were getting the manifestations of interest for 2025 so they wouldn't sell anything.
I think Rolex is phasing out ADs. Commercial real estate is about to take a nose dive and Rolex looks at Tesla and goes we can sell watches online. Or maybe they have one or two storefront in major cities. Authorized dealers make no sense really when you think about it

That US version of that price list article is weird. It shows a different current price for the 126500LN. Currently the Rolex website shows $15,100 USD?. That USD version indicates $15,850. Increasing to $16,250? Hopefully it is only the +3%
Jenni, have you seen the gold market prices? They’ve increased _way_ more than 17% over the last year, and given it goes up when the economy is bad, it’s going to keep going up. Both in Germany and in the US due to Trump. Buckle up! It’s not quite the 30% I saw Rolex do from 2007-2009, but it won’t be far off.
People that pay over retail for a new Rolex are probably unknowingly part of the problem, greed begets greed, Rolex know that and all the Manchurian candidates follow,,, funny really😮

There are. Solid watches in the $2000-4000 range that leaves enough money for a nice vacation. But interesting you mention Sinn because I just checked their website band the U50 I was interested in went up about 8%
Maybe they should just go all the way and raise them to $1 million dollars minimum, say for the OP. Then the prices could go up to $100 million for the gold daytona. Why take intermediate steps? So tell me again how you're a non profit company?
That does seem crazy, but I've done the math😂. Here where I'm at in the US, it's 7%. But when I factor in cost of living, healthcare, wages associated with life/work balances such as maternity time off for both parents, PTO etc., that additional 12% seems like a pretty good deal. Not suggesting that's what should happen here, but if that's all you've known, there's value in that. Just a thought.

Enjoy the holidays and dont worry for Rolex.
Guess I'm never going to own that dream Daytona...
My Pepsi never came
My Perpetual Red was cancelled.
My DD MoP 41mm Wg ordered instant first day never comes....
Instead i got a Milgauss an Explorer 2 a DJ MoP and an Air King.
But i never seen the DD Jig Puzzle or what i realy wanted so im done with Rolex and my AD.
How could an AD perform well if Rolex keep this policy? Even to buy an oyster perpetual (6350€ in 36mm) you need to kneel down praying!
Authorized dealers make no sense really when you think about it
@@jeffee1933okay, let’s imagine they are going that direction.
It means everyone tomorrow could open the website and order a daytona right?
No one could check if they are “enough” to buy a rolex
If it’s like this there’s no issue for the buyers but i don’t think it will end up this way
An excel spreadsheet would have made this a much better video you know.
Solid gold were already trading way under list on grey market so this will only increase the delta. Why would you buy a gold piece from an AD unless you like burning cash.
Yet another reason not to buy direct from Rolex. Not that they would let me buy anything anyhow...
They are trying to be Jlc . They think their branding is king . They think their reputation remains king after the last 5 years. Be prepared to be sold in the after market at a huge discount, adding undesirability to its name . I wouldn’t touch it unless there’s 25-30 % discount. If not, my money will not be in watches these days.
Merry Christmas! Still love to hear your voice!
If you can afford a 40k watch you should be able to afford a 50k watch as well. but you can't buy one anyway.
Rolex’s back on the shelves soon. Prices are ridiculous. Gone up so much in the last couple of years
Thanks for confirming the rumor. I’m in the minority - I was hoping they’d raise all the steel sports models $2000. That would severely hurt the flippers and grey dealers and mean shorter wait times for real watch lovers.
Merry Xmas to you and the family!
For the most part the flippers are dead. No gray dealer is paying above msrp for steel sports unless it’s like a Daytona.
@@franky3fingers337 not here in the U.S.; still hundreds of steel sport models on grey sites at silly, high prices. Look at the watchcharts data - the decreases have bottomed out. And with Bitcoin pumping and the U.S. economy ready to take off under Trump, they may head back up.
Most buyers will keep paying whatever Rolex asks LOL
This is true. Something is only worth whatever anyone is willing to pay. And those folks are more than willing
I love the price increases!! Cuts the demand down. Raise the prices for each Rolex piece by $5K. Matches the current inflation rate and corporate/foundation greed. Again, love it!!
I don’t see why Rolex doesn’t price their watches at market price. Why would they be giving up easily earned money? You would think they were a charity or something. Makes no sense to me
This is a very, very reasonable increase.
This is never going to interest me because if I can get a Rolex, it will be steel. personally, I’d like to see a 75% luxury goods tax on gold watches in the United Kingdom. Platinum could be a 99% tax. 😂
Merry Christmas from Thailand Jenni!
So doing the Rolex price increase list is "a thing" but does anyone who buys Rolexes really care? They aren't watching these are they?
Merry Christmas
Schöne Feiertage, Jenni Elle!
They have gone nuts! I will likely not buy another rolex. Maybe time to take a serious look at zenith and omega.
Merry Christmas!
In my opinion it's a huge risk to pump up retail price in this way, not for ss but for full gold is the same case of cars, at that level of price I look and buy other brands....so for me AD's must apply scount to sell their watches!!!!
That US version of that price list article is weird. It shows a different current price for the 126500LN.
Currently the Rolex website shows $15,100 USD?. That USD version indicates $15,850. Increasing to $16,250?
Hopefully it is only the +3%
Rolex = You ain't worthy!
What is AD?
Jenni, have you seen the gold market prices? They’ve increased _way_ more than 17% over the last year, and given it goes up when the economy is bad, it’s going to keep going up.
Both in Germany and in the US due to Trump. Buckle up! It’s not quite the 30% I saw Rolex do from 2007-2009, but it won’t be far off.
Who cares? True watch enthusiasts already moved on and lost interest in Rolex.
I’m one of them, moved on , me and my trusty PO omega 1st generation are best friends again,, silly me like an old girlfriend 😊
Orologio & Passioni forum in Italy rules. happy holidays Jenni. OP&
All I want for Christmas is my Rolex gmt ll 126719blro with meteorite dial please 😂
People that pay over retail for a new Rolex are probably unknowingly part of the problem, greed begets greed, Rolex know that and all the Manchurian candidates follow,,, funny really😮
Thanks for the forecast! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Who cares ? Rolex is for rich people … all these nobodies thinking they deserve a Rolex
Will Rolex do a release of the Rolex GMT-Master II Coca-Cola Ref. 16710
The list is in Italian - but the prices are in Suisse Francs. Not in Euros. Is that right? So none of your calculations are correct.
msrp prices in euro, ex-geneva in swiss franc.
So clearly you and your husband should battle thunderdome style when you get breaking news to see who gets to post the video. Hahaha both were very informative. Do you think this is targeted at smaller dealers? Besides gold prices that is. Or could this be used as leverage to clean up the act of bad dealers?
Lets look at the regular steel daytona. LOL. Its all academic
There are other great watches out there ... Maybe a new Nomos or SINN or most anything else ... Merry Christmas Jenni !!!
There are. Solid watches in the $2000-4000 range that leaves enough money for a nice vacation. But interesting you mention Sinn because I just checked their website band the U50 I was interested in went up about 8%
Schon Zeit um Rolex im Stich zu lassen!!!
Buy some respectable watches!!!
Es lohnt sich nicht um Rolex zu kaufen!!!
Sind schon komplett daneben
Maybe they should just go all the way and raise them to $1 million dollars minimum, say for the OP. Then the prices could go up to $100 million for the gold daytona. Why take intermediate steps? So tell me again how you're a non profit company?
Who still buys Rolex at this point?!
With all the good fake rolexes out there Rolex reputation is not the same..
Correct and plenty of fakes wear Rolex of late, Rolex were tool cool 20 years ago not now
love the reaction video
Just a Result of being worshipped by most youtubers...
Awful thumbnail
It is a veblen good, they know what they are doing
Rolex sucks
Maybe do the maths before filming? Maybe.
I guess you weren't good in mathematics. Your calculation can be made easier: 119/122 = 0,975 = 1/1,025.
This is simple to solve, don't buy it !
To not buy it you won't have to be on a list, jet everyone is on the list.
19% sales tax… omfg
That does seem crazy, but I've done the math😂.
Here where I'm at in the US, it's 7%. But when I factor in cost of living, healthcare, wages associated with life/work balances such as maternity time off for both parents, PTO etc., that additional 12% seems like a pretty good deal.
Not suggesting that's what should happen here, but if that's all you've known, there's value in that. Just a thought.
Your analysis is missing VAT and an income tax of 42%. You clearly haven’t actually done the math.
I dont have a rolex i have seen and holded one (submariner and dayjust) metal, homestly cz i had my seiko t on me i made a comperation sooo ye its beter but not by that valiue also not realy big on the bouying experiance...
I wasn’t aware that there is a W in Rolex. You pronounce it Wolex. Not Rolex

Kunst = art
stop buying into BS marketing hype and see how fast price falls.
