i just feel like theres a bunch of people who never really mentally developed or challanged their worldview since they were 14 in 2016 and theyre adults now
It's genuinely scary to me that the political non-landscape that were the 2016 american elections and it's fallout over the next 8 years, are likely the ONLY political background that middle to late zoomers will have had, coming into their own beliefs. Our teenage years have an enormous impact on what we believe and value, and to a lot of people, that now means believing the left wing is "woke" and the right wing's only goal is to "preserve sanity". The latter's control of the narrative, irregardless of their potential lack of real power on the "politics" scale is a very real, very scary and very, VERY dangerous thing that is gradually tipping the scales into their favor. Zoomers now don't have the capacity to understand, nor the education to be taught, how the mainstream narrative of "woke bad" is, while not entirely new per sé, at the very least new in it's intensity and one-sidedness. There is no greater political context for anything happening within the political sphere other than "diversity inclusion bad, freedom to be edgy good". The American left wing's inability to adapt to this situation, by clearly and unequivocally stating their own stance, by rejecting the backwards ignorance of the right wing, and by promoting intellectualism over tribalism, isn't entirely their own fault, but a lack of unification and intellectualism within the left wing ranks IS their fault. There is little you can do to defeat the machine of propaganda that is the right wing, but there is much you can do to deconstruct it, by actively engaging with it, debunking it, and providing clear evidence AGAINST the right wing's case and FOR the left wing's, by referring to the history of political thought, the majority of which has been in danger of turning totalitarian or authoritarian because of right wing influences. Sadly, the "14 in 2016" effect means that less and less young people have the capacity to do that, and more and more people genuinely believe Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk, Donald Trump and all the other scheisters are proponents of "freedom of speech" rather than the cynical, grubby, self-serving, tribalistic, exploitative little gasbags they truly are.
@@RedFloyd469 as an european i strongly hold the believe the US dosent have a political left at this point, only relative left to what are essentially facist-adjacent populists. I took the time to actually look at trumps voting page, theres a lot of finger pointing at problems and supposed perpretrators real and imagined but very little in terms of actual economical policy. the fact that the american political grinder runs on blood dosent differentiate between red right wingers and blue right wingers. its truly the bloated and obscene carcass of an democracy gone tits up by the sheer ineffectiveness of it all. yes the "democrats" are the "lesser" evil but the fact that theres only a choice between kinda h*tler and mega h*tler should be a mild indicator that something isnt right. now to actually refer back to you in particular, sorry for the venting, the control of the narrative is only as effective as we let it be. the sad fact that the democrats try to reason with actual animals is a large chunk of the problem. trump and his little goblins arent afraid of being called hypocrites or liars, they actually managed to leverage that to their advantage somehow. what am i proposing? you cant beat a cheater at a rigged game by playing a rigged game.

People’s misunderstanding of satirical works is very frustrating. If a satire has nothing to say then is it actually a satire at all? We live in the animal side of the internet most of the time but Trumpf’s recent “eating the dogs” comment went viral and so many people claimed they were using it as a satire but didn’t actually use it to say anything. Many of the posts work both as a support of Trump and as a joke at Trumps expense. They even made a ridiculous TikTok dance about it. We are cooked.
literally the funniest movie ever written, nothing has had me creasing as hard as four lions, but at the same time it left me deeply sad and emotional. that final act was truely tragic absolute masterpiece
Cohen really went from “Isn’t this so fucked it’s funny?” to “isn’t this so fucking funny?” I still appreciate his work in unveiling the arrogant stupidity bred by western imperialism, but without bouncing himself off of real people, his work just becomes a Judd Apatow film. Add in the “both sides are kinda crazy, huh?” and he’s just making South Park.
@@KaiAfterKai LMAO they aren’t the worst thing ever if I’m being honest. But Cohen made things where his voice and persona were integral, and The Dictator could have cast Will Ferrell as the lead and it probably would have improved it.
I have a question, since you grew up around Muslims, r they similar to how the media makes them out to be, partiucally on like LGBT and women's rights? There's a lot of bad press about them and I know there's some truth to it but I also know there's a lot of straight up racist and bigoted lies as well, so I would be really curious to know from someone who has actually lived in those communities.
When it comes to LGBT issues, I can't say the topic ever came up much. When it did, the general attitude seemed to be, "That shit's weird, but you do you," which isn't great, but eh. Not much different to other Abrahamic religions. I can't imagine it would be easy if a gay Muslim was to try and come out to their family - I certainly wouldn't want to be in their place - but there's a great deal of opinion and thought on the topic. There's a lot of interesting discourse, especially when it comes to historical instances of homosexuality in pre-modern Islamic societies, which seem to echo how the Ancient Greeks and Romans viewed the concept. I'd definitely recommend looking into it, though that might just be the history nerd in me talking. Women's rights... supportive, I guess? It was something that never really came up, which I guess in and of itself says that everyone was more or less in agreement with them. I can't say I ever got the sense that any of the Muslim girls around me felt that they couldn't do anything men couldn't. There were several students and teachers who didn't wear hijabs, and during my A Level Religious lessons, when we got to talking about things like divorce and abortion, most people were pretty progressive or were at least respectful of other people's right to choose. Also, make of this what you will, but I sat next in-between a Muslim girl and a Christian girl during Science - both open and proud about their faith - and they had some of the most degenerate, perverted and shameless conversations I've ever heard in my life. They'd put university students to shame with some of the chats they had over my head. Assuming they get married, I fucking pray for their husbands cause within a few months they won't be walking right. So yeah. Not much more problematic than the rest of the general population imo. You're going to find some wonderful friends, some proper dickheads, and a lot of people who you just have no opinion on. In other words... pretty much every other group on the planet.
Had me panicking when you got to Four Lions, haven’t seen it in years but remember it as a classic would’ve been devastated if it held up as bad as the Dictator 😂
I love this video. We definitely are very similar on this point you're making. I watched The Dictator back in the day and I liked it, but I watched it a few years ago and the humor was really cringe. I remember being 14 and seeing scenes from this film, and feeling like I was being gaslit into liking it. The helicopter scene with the back brace was so forced
Seeing this comment, I went to go watch a clip of it on the film's official YT channel. However, it takes so long for them to finish telling jokes and actually get onto the helicopter that I just gave up and closed the video.
A plushie of a character called Nyan. They're designed by the artist Chew, and I got it a couple months ago. They've been a background staple of every video since. I've been wondering when someone would point them out, so congrats on being the first.
I’m sorry that I’m about to make the most stereotypical overdone comment ever. How do you only have 4.2k views? Your video is great, It definitely deserves more views.
I've learned not to become too invested in view counts, especially if you're like me and refuse to pick a niche to settle in. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, though!
