Hi my name is Danielle, welcome to my True Crime and Makeup series! I’ve been interested in true crime for the longest time now, what started with me watching true crime on TV with my Nan from a young age eventually turned into studying for a degree in Law & Criminology.
When I first watched Bailey Sarian’s series I was completely hooked, I loved how she had combined two of the things I’m most passionate about and delivered it so well. She totally inspired me to take the leap and do the same thing on my channel, so all credit for the idea goes 100% to her.
I’m from the UK and will be covering cases from both the UK and internationally, let me know if there are any cases that you’d like to see from me! More cases will be coming soon so please subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

I think that’s what’s so unsettling about serial killers-it’s easier to believe that they are animals, who are completely unable to love. The reality, is: They can be a lot more like us than is comfortable. They have personal codes, people they care about and people they love.
The people who compare it to an addiction are probably more on-point than we realize.

i think he felt a lot of power in not revealing all his victims. he got caught so really the only thing he could be in control of then was not being released in the media and not telling the whole truth so people and the police would kind of beg him for it. and it’s so obvious how much having complete control means to him when he said he doesn’t want his identity released because he doesn’t want people doing “some stupid true crime bullshit” it’s only because then he hasn’t control of what’s being said, he can’t manipulate people to view him in the way he wants to they are going to base there opinions on the case.

I pointed him to the correct direction, he thanked me and jogged off. About 2 minutes later he ran up to me from behind, tried to cover my mouth, trying to drag or pull me however he could. I was able to get his hands off my mouth long enough to scream and thankfully someone was up and had their window open.

Also the coffee hut wasn’t open 24 hours!! It closed at 8pm and my dad happened to work right next to the hut. He was closing up his work while all of this was happening to Samantha. It’s terrifying to think of and my dad wishes he saw something to help her to this day. I swear I have four different connections to Samanthas whole case and it’s painful.

I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and I knew about this case because my sister worked at the same coffee shop as her. It was heartbreaking finding out what happened but it’s good to know that she’s in a better place and that Samantha’s law was put into place for those working at coffee shops. I also know a detective who worked on the case and they were so glad to finally give the family a sense of closure and justice.

It’s hard to find when looking it up online, but it deals with the protection and safety of people in coffee shops like the one Samantha worked at. I don’t know if it’s just in Alaska that they did this, but for most, if not all coffee shops in Anchorage, they now have men working the night shifts. It also may depend on whether or not the coffee shop is one that is open 24 hours.

So my husband and I actually lived in this area, in the mountains, down the road from the Key's family. When we lived there, my husband worked all day and sometimes at night leaving me and my young sons at home alone. I always got the feeling of being watched and I was terrified of the forest, which was strange because i had lived in WA my whole life and i loved the forest, but for some reason this particular place just gave me a very unsettling and unusual feeling, like something dangerous was lurking, so I never let the kids play outside alone. We had no connections to the outside world. No TV, no internet, hardly any phone reception. Then, In the winter, my husband and I found footprints walking around the outside of our house, and thankfully, we ended up moving. Sorry the more you talked about this the more unsettled I got, I just had to share. There were too many similarities.

I avoided watching this one for a while because while I've been using true crime content as exposure therapy for my crippling phobia of bodily harm, harm to eyes are still the thing that brings me the most terror. And I assumed for this case that he sewed her eyes open while she was ALIVE. That idea of that happening, and the idea of not being able to close your eyes while you're being tortured was putting me on the edge of a panic attack. But, I decided it was eventually time to face my fears, continue to use it as exposure therapy, and honestly I was so relieved that she wasn't subjected to that when she was still alive.

I was in college in Anchorage when this happened it was so scary- I was staying late to get practicum hours the day after she was abducted and my fellow classmate said he was leaving a bit earlier than usual bc his friend worked at the same exact coffee hut Samantha did & he was going to be there for his friend for company/safety. It truly could've just been any worker that had a shift that night she disappeared. Back then it was typical for just 1 person to be working in those huts during dark hours (it gets dark here around 3:30-4 pm during winter). It did go to 2 shortly after the case, not sure if that's stayed though.
For years, I would think of Samantha every single time I passed by that coffee hut- just a senseless event. Israel is a monster

I actually lived out in Wasilla when he killed her and I had visited the lake he dumped her body in RIGHT before they found her there in April. I took frequent walks around Kepler Bradley Lake and Matanuska Lake where they found her. It's totally unsettling to think that I was just walking around, enjoying the scenery while she was dead in the water in front of me somewhere and I didn't know it. What happened to Samantha changed the course of my young adult life. It could have been me. I will never forget her.

I am from Washington State and have been to Neah Bay. It's not a place that is well-traveled, it's on the absolute tip of the peninsula. A very beautiful and peaceful place. I love the way Danielle talked about his cocaine use, like 100$ is a huge amount. At my most active use of crack, I'd start at 8am, & spend about 400$, but the more you buy, the more you get for free, so you could really double that in reality. I've been sober for many years now, but recently heard about a woman's partner who is still in his active addiction & he spent something like 6 grand in a week, which is crazy.

In my opinion, Keyes was one of...if not the scariest serial killer. He was incredibly intelligent and so unassuming. His method was virtually foolproof and God only knows how much longer he could've gotten away with killing had he not gotten caught with Samantha Koenig. He got too arrogant, overconfident, sloppy, lazy and that's how he was caught. (Thankfully.)
It's confirmed that he killed 3 people and suspected that he killed 11. I think that murder count is MUCH higher.

    • @Draggonny
      @Draggonny ปีที่แล้ว +9

What probably should scare you is that's the exact same process that most of these killers go through. They watch, read, listen to the most horrific and violent media until they don't feel anything from it anymore, then they have to go out and do it for real to feel something. Then they ramp up the violence and risk to get the same thrill until they die or are caught. They're like junkies, having to get their fix of violence but needing more and more with less downtime between hits.
Probably best you lay off the horror movies and true crime for a bit. Have a bit of a detox. You can totally reset from it. I used to look at all kinds of messed-up stuff online when I was a teen. I went pretty much cold turkey, and now I'm grossed out by all that stuff again.
