Before you even begin to tell your story it's best to begin at the end. In other words, you need to figure out the basics: Define your objective; Identify your audience; Choose your medium; Pick a messenger.In this episode of StoryGuide you will learn how to identify your objective and start shaping your story.
Austin Kleon has a great presentation on how to "Steal Like and Artist". It is well worth your time.
The idea of using other's ideas as a starting point for your idea is hardly new. And I totally agree with you. Telling an old idea in a new way is certainly unique. Thanks for watching.

Thank you Tracie for the kind words. I think this advice can act as a starting point for any sort of story. The audience and goal of your story will drive how you vary from the formula. I think tips like this can help you get started on the process of shaping the tone and direction, but the gist of your message will determine how closely you adhere to the structure. With practice and feedback you will learn what works. Unfortunately there are no hard and fast rules. Only advice. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the confusion. There are five videos in the series and some of the videos combine more than one storytelling key in an episode. The keys are Craft the foundation, Grab attention, Establish setting, Humanize, Build tension, Deliver a turing point and Communicate the outcome. This video is misnamed in my opinion. Marketing is not storytelling. It contains elements of effective storytelling, but that does not make it identical with storytelling.
***** I can understand the confusion, but this would have been titled "The 7 Keys of Screenwriting" if that was the focus. Storytelling is much more than screenwriting, video production or marketing. Storytelling is part of the fabric of every culture and marketing is only the latest idiom to co-opt the word. “Storytelling” has become somewhat of a catch-all descriptor for the process of sharing an idea, a lesson, or imparting an emotion. I think we have all learned to expect more sifting in our online search for information, particularly when leveraging such a ubiquitous term as "storytelling". I'm sorry this didn't meet your expectations. We work to ensure the video descriptions are accurate reflections of the content. In rereading the video description I still think it sets expectations appropriately. I hope you were able to find what you need in your creative journey.

Ok ill admit im lazy. I am as creative as all hell and while writing is somewhat of a chore I have always been able to do it with ease. My problem is that I have spurts of ideas and I also have the attention span of bird. I was wondering do you have any advice to refine these ideas and thoughts into a story.
