  • The sad story of the elderly at Mystic Pines- Fallout 4 Lore
Mystic pines seems to be some sort of retirement home/ old peoples home, located just outside Lexington in Fallout 4. However, beneath this home lies a strange mystery that may have some sad and possibly sinister consequences. Even if this turns out not to be the case, we can still take a look at the remains of the people here, and try figure out what happened to them.

I think the small stories in Fallout really do shine more than the main plot a lot of the time. The story of the vaults, raider camps, and even a retirement home really gives an in depth look into the past and present of Fallout. It can be creepy, inspiring like with Randall Clark, or downright depressing.

The overpass built well after Mystic Pines care
    facility totally makes sense.
There wasn’t an overpass when Thoreau went into the woods to live simply (although it is hilarious to think of him trying to write “Walden” with traffic noise annoying him).

I once went to a retirement home where they have a "Memorial Garden" with tomb stones for "Departed friends". While the residents might not be invited by the family of a deceased, so the residents had a funeral for the departed in the main room.

I've always thought in my headconnon that Mystic Pines was an ultimately tragic place for the elderly, both Pre-war and Post-War.
Pre-War, the staff half-a$$ed their care for the tenants, the Halloween decor was an insensitive attempt to be festive for the season, and the overpass just above kept the elderly awake at night with the constant roar of traffic. They buried on-site many of the elderly tenants when they passed, simply because the insane inflation of the Pre-War economy made it far, far too expensive to send to a hospital, plus whatever sleazy business practices the staff were likely doing.
When the bombs dropped, many of the staff abandoned the retirement home, and the Elderly Tenants just accepted their irradiated death. 2:50 was likely an old lady who was bedridden when the bombs dropped, her last moments before dying of radiation was reaching for her medication. 3:45 was likely an elderly person's reminders of a grandchild, or intended gifts that were never given due to the war. 5:13 When the bombs dropped, he likely said f_ck it and locked himself in there to drink himself to death before dying of radiation. 6:27 an elderly man plopped himself on the couch, accepting this was the end, and took his last nap before the rads took him. 9:59 An elderly widow, her husband passed before her, and when the bombs fell she rolled her way to his grave to be as close to him as she could before passing herself from the rads/fallout. 11:13 was a young woman and her grandfather, they likely were sitting there as a preplanned meeting until the bombs dropped, which she refused to leave her grandfather to die alone and died with him.

I think there is a reasonable explanation for where some of the bodies are since the residents had at least a few minutes of warning.
The lady in bed probably od'ed on her meds so she wouldn't feel anything.
The body in the locker, is probably someone who was having one last hurrah and drinking his way into the after life.
The lady in the memorial garden went to say goodbye to someone they loved.
And the people by the lake were probably family, like a father and daughter, who went to the lake one last time. Or considering the flowers, possibly a survivor, who found her dead or dying relative and took them to the lake, built the memorial (which seems to surround the body in the wheelchair) and then passed away, possibly from radiation.
It's also possible they are related to somebody who is still alive, like a descendant, who still memorializes them.

That's what you noticed? For me it was the fact that they're still wearing clothing and laying on the surface of the ground after 210 years of exposure to the elements... I mean to put this into perspective, the American Civil War was only 160 years ago and while you can still technically find uniforms scattered around the battlefields and skirmish sites, they're all in fragments and you definitely won't be finding any skeletons laying on the surface of the ground, and that's only after 160 years of exposure to the elements, yet 210 years latter these skeletons look like the bombs were dropped just 5 years before.
So either clothing in the Fallout Univers is magically immune to deterioration or there's some nutter running around the waist land dressing up skeletons in clothing for some reason.

Either way, I have a particular soft spot for the elderly, so this video hits close to home abit. My grandfather made it a point to never be moved into a retirement home, and I think stories like this, and sadly in real life, are partly a reason for it. He didn't have to find out, as he passed away in his home, just how he said he wanted. Sadly these residents got the shit end of the stick.
BTW for a Starfield lore video, I think a video on the Colander ship would be cool, especially considering it's spooky season. The ship is basically the movie Alien lmao

    Wonderful episode, Nth. 👍👍
The last one, the woman with the man in the wheelchair by the Lake; I believe that was a post-war situation.
    How, pray tell?
From the fact the two of them are sitting atop a destroyed piece of house flooring. Either part of an attic floor, or a standard floor from a house, or blasted out apartmrnt in nearby Lexington.
They may have found the section of floor and brought it down to the cobblestone area they are seated. Though that seems unlikely due to their age and only one of them may have been young enough to do any maneuvering of objects.
However, that section of floor would be pretty heavy for a single person to move, let alone lift.
So I figure it was blasted into the air and landed on the cobblestone.
Then the woman and her husband/father/grandfather sat on top of the flooring to enjoy their last moments as they succumb to radiation sickness while looking at the lake which brought them peace before the War.
Also, every time I go into Mystic Pines and see the highway above, I'm always surprised (and would have feared had I lived there) a car or truck crashing through the railing above and landing in the building, or the courtyard.

I think the graveyard may be whats known as a "Paupers Burial". I had to deal with this while working for the county where I live. If someone dies and they have no relatives to claim their body and no pre-made burial plans, they get put into a "Paupers Grave" by the state which now owns them as property. They will basically get an unmarked grave in the middle of nowhere and buried cheaply as a group in a mass grave in cheap plywood coffins. However, some nursing homes have arrangements to handle your burial so you don't end up in that situation. So it seems to me that those graves are from people who had no relatives and no one to take care of them, so they checked themselves into the home and made arrangements to have the nursing home take care of their burial. The one visiting the grave was most likely a friend they made while at the home. Which is bitter sweet, no one in life but a friend in death.

I always assumed Mystic Pines was some form of "State ran" facility. Would explain why there is a morge and cemetery on site. A lot of State ran facilities used to also handle the burial of the residents who died on site. Same reason why former mental hospitals/asylums have grave yards

You know what I want? Fallout Canada. There would be large areas that prewar that would have no human presense so would not have any reason to be bombed. So I can easily imagine any survivors literally just move out to the canadian wilderness to get away from the rads. The funny thing is the mutant beasties would also do the same as there would be more food for less competition. So imagine the weirdness that would be there...

I feel like the room with they toys is probably a trimmed side quest relating to the Wilson Toys guy. Might be why the boxes flicker. They would have been the quest target. I think the coffins and graveyards are just the result of 20 something devs neither knowing nor caring about the details.

Honestly I've been putting off several since the shitshow of a response I got from the toxic part of the community. Not sure I want to be involved in one where everyone who posts a video thinks they either came up with all these ideas themselves, or now own them and everyone has to give them credit.
