Great video! I believe the next decade will bring even more insights about this, it's a hot topic. One question though: I have lived both in France and Spain and travelled many mediterranean countries. I have never seen people eat whole grains really, but mostly white bread/pasta. Do you know why recommendations and reality don't match? Lots of love and thanks!

I think a lot has to do with overall lifestyle also and just a general approach to life. Just think of all the fresh fruit and vegs and just natural foods most European countries consume, not to mention a calmer approach to life. Not like in the US or UK where I live now where you have to go on a MI6 expedition just to find a bread that’s not made with vegetable oil and a bunch of artificial ingredients…
My Austrian grandmother grew up on a farm, worked hard all her life, ate her main meal at lunchtime, ate normal quantities of food and not the massive plates one gets in the States, and didn’t snack. And her diet by conventional standards was by no means the healthiest - her start to the day was a cup of decaf coffee and a piece of pound cake. Dinner was cold meats, farmers bread, perhaps the odd tomato or slice of cucumber etc and lunch time was mixed between meat based or sweet based which in Austria is common. But all was cooked from scratch - bread came from the farm, all meats from either the farm as well directly or the local butcher etc etc
I don’t think she ate a wholegrain her whole life / she came from the era where white flour was viewed as better
But she was never ill a day in her life, lived until almost 94, worked all her life mostly outdoors and never left Austria
I didn’t start having gut probs etc until I arrived in the US as a young adult. My body was simply not used to the masses of food consumed at each meal and all the artificial added ingredients. And even though I ate most grains in whole grain fashion I was having problems. Moment I visited home and ate what everyone ate there aka my grandmother’s diet, all probs went away…
All in all, I think the European approach just much much healthier

I agree! I feel like mediterranean countries eat refined carbs but in low amounts and eat a bunch of fiber in other forms (fruit, veggies, legumes, etc) so it's fine!

@@Edukalebylucie thank you, that makes sense (meaning the Mediterranean reality and recommendations for the "Mediterranean" diet do differ in that regard).
Maybe they should call it "Mediterranean diet 2.0". 😀

And if a person is on a gtube, are there supplements strictly for the fibre you're talking about?

My Nuro Surgeon said when I was leaving the ICU to be careful what I eat. That there both connected.🤗❤️

Thanks❤ maybe a more detailed video on antioxidants, polyphenols, flavonoide and their impact on inflammation, etc., I would be interested in how exactly and in what ways they benefit our health. Many videos on the internet address these issues only on the superficial level without concrete details 😊? Thanks in advance 🎉
